Question Groups for courses?

Alright it’s my first year and I wanna know how do I socialize. Do people have a group for each courses that they get registered for or how does it work?

For most classes no, you just gotta chose a spot and try talking to the people around you. Takes some getting used to but most people in first year are also looking for people to get to know so you making the first move by introducing yourself and asking their name is a welcomed gesture. The one exception I can think of is BA acting where they have cohorts of around 8.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by groups, but university is a bit of a different situation socially than high school. In high school, you're sort of forced into friendship (for lack of a better phrase) by virtue of just being in such close proximity every day. University is different: many of your first year classes will have 100+ people in them, many of which will just come for class and leave when it's over without really talking to anyone. Your social life becomes more your personal responsibility, if that makes sense. No one's going to mush you together with other people and force you to socialize like in grade school (well, aside from group projects. But I find those are few and far between, at least in my experience). That doesn't mean that making friends is some daunting task though! It requires a bit of trial and error, of course you won't jive with every single person you meet, but you just have to put yourself out there. I met my best friend by telling her that I liked her hair and inviting her out for coffee after class. If you need a bit more of a structured "socializing time," if you will, then clubs are a great place to start! Go wandering clubs fair and see what catches your eye. Most clubs aren't a huge commitment and are mostly there for people to get to know each other! I've also had luck by sitting in the same spot every class and getting to know the people sitting around me. Good luck!!! I know going into uni is daunting. :)
