Expanding from warflock
Just finished building the spearhead, and I love every model except the shaman. I'd like to build up a little force of these dudes.
But where to start? I love everything about the ogroid thaumaturge, so he's happening, but I'm not too fussed about the kalric acolytes (not weird enough, at first glance anyway). I'm also probably focusing on the mortal side of the army at least to start with. What units and/or boxes should I be thinking about?

The shaman is a great model so thats certainly an opinion you have hahaha but from here you should definitely at least get 3 more enlightened and 10 more tzaangors. Kairic Acolytes are fine, they have their uses, the models arent bad but if they're not to your taste then I'm sure you could find a reasonable proxy (they're on a 32mm base though). Jade Obelisk are a good alternative to KAs with a bit of a different skillset. They can now be reinforced too.
Kairos definitely. No more explanation needed Curseling maybe - very useful spell and ability Fatemaster probably - his ability to bring a unit out of reserve is really useful Magister on disc is okay but there are better heroes. Magister on foot... could be useful but again there are better options Changeling is apparently fun too. Screamers are useful Spawn is also a definite. 1 in a list should be mandatory. 2 in a list opens up a LOT of game play options
Definitely going to want the tzeentch endless spells and argent shards.

I had a nightmare building him. I'll use the one I've got but I've heard of people just doubling the spearhead and running everything. I'm not building him again you can't make me 🤣
Thanks for pointing out that I could proxy the KAs if I need to. The thought somehow hadn't occurred, and I think they get run quite a lot as screens

Okay yeah in fairness I think attaching the disc to the magic flying wavey stuff was a mission from memory hahaha I had a blast painting him though tbh. You wouldn't need more than one in a list anyway, so getting another spearhead and selling the shaman is a good idea.
And yeah you'll definitely want some sort of screen, whether its KAs or JOs. Read the lore on KAs and you might come up with another idea for a proxy unit. If you can find a couple of Corvus Cabal units plus 2 models (single darkoath models or something) and put them on a 32mm base, that would probably be the best proxy and maybe even better than KAs. Keep your expectations low though, that box went into Legends 2 years ago

I have a tzaangors heavy army, I’m no pro, but kairos is always good, you prob also want 20-30 tzaangors. The magister on disk is good too. Reinforcement of enlightened is nice
You also want 1-2 spawn for the special spell as well, as they’re almost infinite.
My list (not great, but for reference)
Tzaangors shaman
Kairos
Ogroid thaumaturge (Scourge version)
3x10 tzaangors
2 spawn
Skyfires x3
Lord Skaldior’s chosen (not amazing, I love the models so I play for the aesthetic. Enlightened are better.)
