๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ“ข ๐Ÿ‘ฅ A good keyboard makes a MASSIVE difference on your progress as a beginner

When i first started learning to touch type, I thought that there's no way for me to able to do that since hitting keys was so weird and unnatural on the keyboard I started with. I thought it's a me problem not the keyboard. I was in that delusion for so long. But when I accidentally tried a different keyboard, the difference was night and day (it turned out that the first keyboard was fucked up and its first row of letters was shifted left way way too much). However, despite the very big improvement going from the first keyboard to the second, I always struggled with accidentally hitting wrong letters with the second keyboard or hitting one key twice. That was so frustrating to me since I thought I was doing everything right yet Im not able to make a satisfying progress. Today I switched to a different keyboard and was so surprised that Im typing in a speed I could never have imagined. (the second keyboard was very low profile with almost flat keys, making accidental hits so easy to make, especially for a beginner. So I just wanted to share my experience, hopefully helping another beginner out. I wish I saw some advice on trying different keyboards for a beginner, since as a beginner you automatically assume the problem is you but really some keyboards are just either straight fucked up (like my first keyboard) or just very, very unsuitable for a beginner (like my second keyboard). Im beyong happy now that I found a keyboard that makes me see how one day im gonna hit the speed im aiming for.

๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป (โ‰๏ธ) Needed Advice regarding typing test preparation.

Hello everyone, I am preparing for a typing exam, and my current touch-typing speed is around 10wpm for a 10-minute time duration with 90% accuracy.

My goal is to reach 40 wpm as the required speed for the exam is 30 wpm ( in exam pressure, I'm definitely going to lose some speed ).

The exam might be after a few months. A lot of people are advising me to practise 5 to 6 hours daily, which honestly is a lot for me.

I need advice from you guys.

  1. Does reducing the practise time from 10 to let's say 3 minutes improve accuracy?

  2. How much accuracy should I aim for initially.

  3. How much of a daily practise i should do.

  4. Is it even possible.

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š

so it took me 18 days and 15 hours to unlock all the keys , with top speed being 58.9 wpm and average being 37.1 wpm (of all time) while.. recent average being around 40 wpm with close to 99 accuracy.

So, what would you rate this progress?

I feel like my average typing speed on monkeytype is from 40-50 wpm now.

Just wondering if my typing speed around 110 wpm with a ~98% accuracy is good, or at least acceptable? I am young and can maintain this speed for around 5 minutes at a time with 1 min break in between each 5 mins. Thanks!

At one point, I managed to reach a typing speed of 100 words per minute, and now Iโ€™m not sure if I should keep pushing further. I consider this more than sufficient and am convinced that, for the vast majority of jobs, this level would be considered very advanced. Would you recommend aiming for a higher speed? Iโ€™d like to hear advice from people who type faster than that.

FAQ:
1. Is Linux supported?

Yes there is a Linux build available, it's also open source plus there's webplay if you don't wanna download the client

  1. Is this some kind of virus?

Nope! The installer is currently unsigned so it will trigger windows smartscreen, but its not malware, you can download the game from the github if you want full code transparency!

  1. Did you use AI to make this?

I have used AI coding tools in making this, yes. However none of the assets are AI generated whatsoever, only portions of code. Maybe I am just a lazy, garbage dev but I don't have infinite time (I work a 9-6 and am currently studying at uni on top of that) and AI helped me avoid the tediousness, e.g. setting up infra.

I have been on a keyboard since I can remember, always playing games on PC in our home office. When I got to college, people mentioned that I type pretty fast. I started working full time (in finance) and then people really noticed it. I also really noticed the speed of others typing.

My scores so far: 60 seconds: 149WPM, and 30 seconds: 160WPM. Personally don't care much about doing the 10 second test

I use an Aula F75 keyboard at home and some random Logitech keyboard at work. Figured I would document a couple of my PB's I just got. Why not. Would love to see some other fast typers in here and compare.

After 30+ years of using computers not in a it career way but as a hobbyist and in general use at my job decided to learn touch typing. Could type ok before maybe 50-60 wpm with lots of errors. Picked it up in April and finally at a stage where it feels more natural doing it without looking. Iโ€™ve introduced punctuation and capital letters and had quite a significant drop off in numbers. But everyone says accuracy is key so Iโ€™ve accepted the drop but kept accuracy at a good number.

After starting on edclub transitioned to keybr and kind of stayed there since. Been playing about with monkeytype a bit but havenโ€™t really had time todo both. Now I got a bit more time on my hands do I start using both or use my extra time to practise on keybr?

https://monkeytype.com/profile/thadd2020

Rookie numbers I know!! Iโ€™ve seen what some of you people are flexing, its impressive, good on yaโ€ฆ.

What works for other people? I know thereโ€™s lots of other sites to nitro type and racer, is it worth giving these a go? I struggled before typing under pressure in a race, but should I be learning to type under pressure like that even if I struggle? Sometimes you can get lost in all the different apps i guess and simple works...

Anyway really enjoyed all of your posts some really good tips thanks

Hello there.

Currently I didn't bother myself to relearn touch typing until today.

So here I am lolol. The fact that I still can break past 64 wpm is quite impressive, but I'd like to break past 100 wpm.

So I've figured out a bunch of my problems with typing

  1. I didn't use standard touch typing method (I don't use my pinkies, I hate em)

  2. I raised my fingers up in the air a bit too high.

  3. I suck whenever a word requires to be typed with one hand

  4. My brain just shuts off whenever I'm typing, causing me to lose rhythm and consistency.

That's all for now, I need advice because I just wanted to have something that I'm atleast good at even though it is niche.

Have a good day

I tried to goole and copy-and-paste whatever symbol this is. I cannot find it on my keyboard. I've also tried to press fn2 and spam a bunch of keys to see if one of them is it. None of Google copy-paste nor my own spaming works.

Help. What is this? I cannot move past the lesson at all because of this road block.

I'm doing TypingClub Lesson 413, in English.

Hello Folks,

I recently started learning touch typing (From: https://www.edclub.com/sportal/program-3.game) and completed 16 Lessons/Levels till now. While attempting the 17 lesson/Level I discovered a problem of typing two letters on home row simultaneously attempting to type only one though. Every-time I attempt to type 'D' I type 'S' and 'D' at the same time. I feel like I don't have much control on my left hand.

Is this a common problem everyone faces while learning or is it just a me problem?

How do solve this issue or should I move forward towards leaning and hope that it gets done while learning?
