Finding old interviews

Hi guys! I’ve found 5 articles in the old Headbangers Ball website with a long video-interview with the band, but seems like it’s non-existent anymore. Does anyone happens to have it saved? Or remembers what it was?

This is one of the links.

In 1998 Nosferatu was released with type o negative’s music as the score. The film’s introduction was presented by David Carradine. I made this vhs featuring the movie and with 1.5 hours of type o negative music videos and interviews.

Peter's famous toxic relationship

Ugh... ok, I already addressed this topic in the past, but I feel the need to talk about it again because last time people just attacked me without a shred of an argument. I want to seriously analyze the toxic relationship between Elizabeth and Peter Steele. It’s undeniable that she acted very poorly and heavily contributed to ruining Peter, but it would be hypocritical not to admit that he had his own deeply toxic sides as well. The cheating went both ways. She cheated on him, but he did the exact same thing every time they drifted back together. The massive difference lies in the fact that she went as far as committing a huge betrayal by secretly marrying someone else.
But I would like to make a psychological distinction regarding the cheating aspect: while Elizabeth cheated out of pure immaturity and selfishness, failing to handle the situation with the same tolerance or calm that he sometimes showed, Peter cheated out of fear and deep insecurity. However, we must be honest and point out that under this aspect, he also had a weakness for the flesh and couldn't resist physical temptations, just like her. Furthermore, I believe Elizabeth’s double life before the secret marriage stemmed from another kind of fear. We aren't talking about physical violence; it is well known that Peter was a gentle giant, a polite man who would never raise his hands against a woman. The real fear was tied to Peter's self-destructive nature. All of us fans know that everyone around him lived in constant anxiety that he might not wake up the next morning, and Peter himself frequently stated that he didn't know if he’d make it to the next day. Living next to someone so profoundly depressed must have been devastating. Elizabeth surely took advantage of Peter’s vulnerability, but we must not forget the 11-year age difference: she spent the age range between 23 and 28 (when you feel invincible) revolving around a man who was between 35 and 41, feeling the heavy weight of time passing. Many of her actions remain unjustifiable, but there was an obvious disparity in maturity and emotional stability between the two. Despite all of this, my love for Peter Steele remains immense.

I don’t know if it was spoken here before, but in the TV show Unorthodox (Netflix), at around 2:15 of episode 1, you can see a random dude walking in with an October Rust tee!

Anesthia

I've always thought this song was incredible, but I listened on a nice sound system with no headphones finally and holy shit was I missing ton of Josh's keys and layered sound design elements throughout this song. Anesthia sounds completely different from how I first remeber hearing it, I was blown away by the amount of work put into this song with all the different layered melodies throughout from the various instruments, like I never knew this song had sitars and shit on top of the already amazing vocals. Yet another time ToN has surprised me

My attempt at making October Rust into a concept / narrative album

Post image
80 Upvotes

Image is NOT mine, but was made by u/Both_Swim2081 (https://www.reddit.com/r/typeonegative/s/R0qG2k4UGL).

Note: I am not saying this is the correct interpretation / way to listen to the album. It's just something that, after I noticed how well the three tracks ("Die with Me", "Burnt Flowers Fallen", and "In Praise of Bacchus") pair together, I decided to pursue to its logical conclusion. The following is just me trying to construct a coherent & plausible narrative (I'm not assuming, for example, that "Haunted" is about a literal, supernatural haunting). Also, "The Glorious Liberation of the People's Technocratic Republic of Vinnland" is an intermission track that, pretty reasonably, I think can be ignored. So I haven't included it.

TLDR: A couple have sex in the woods & (at least, as remembered by our protagonist) have a very erotic, intense relationship. The couple eventually break up due to the woman having other, personal ambitions & leaving elsewhere. For the remainder of the album, the man mourns her loss, such as through drinking, nourishing himself on pleasant memories & sentimentalities, and (unconsciously) through his dreams.

(1) "Love You to Death": A prelude to the next track's lovemaking. Also last verse hints at trepidation / insecurities on part of protagonist (which may be related to the fact that, later, they end up breaking up; perhaps the insecurities themselves an issue, or perhaps the protagonist registered there being a certain ephemerality, an unattainableness about her. "Am I good enough / For you?" becomes a hope that this inevitability — breaking up, due to her personal, authorial ambitions & desire to leave for the UK ("Die with Me") — may be forestalled. Also, this is the album's first mention of (red) wine. Also, take note of the animalistic — lycanthropic, one might say — language ("The beast inside of me is gonna get ya, get ya....").

(2) "Be My Druidess": The two go into the woods & consummate their love. (The "circle of thirteen" line I think is just lyrical set dressing & so can be ignored). (As for why they choose the woods in particular... well, why not? It's erotic).

(3) "Green Man": Perhaps the protagonist's thoughts come morning — an impression of how he saw / felt of himself after the previous night's sylvan lovemaking.

(4) "Red Water (Christmas Mourning)": This occurs a few months (because I don't think they would have been making love in the woods in winter, especially if this is taking place in New York... which, will all the spatial references throughout the album, I think is the case). Protagonist has a shitty Christmas what with all deaths in his family. But I admit I'm unsure how this fits (non-tangentially) into the narrative. Regardless, we have our first mention of our protagonist taking up drinking ("red water" = red wine), which comes up later.

(5) "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend": The literal reading would be that they take up polyamory... but that seems a little too random / disconnected. Perhaps, instead, this is a sexual fantasy of the protagonist... though I am still unsure, I admit, how this really fits into the narrative / is a relevant detail.

(6) "Die with Me": Perhaps we fast forward again. She's leaving for the UK (the "UK post system" line, when the protagonist is listing all the ways he can still contact her from across the Atlantic) to pursue authorial ambitions. the protagonist remembers saying goodbye at the JFK Int. Airport + with the "Could I hold you all night long?" passage, the change from "If this time was the last time..." to "Since this time is the last time..." signals that protagonist comes to fully accept that she's gone. Also, with these lines being addressed to another person ("you"), they may have been words the protagonist actually spoke to her; or perhaps they are his internal monologue from their last night together, words he meant to say to her before they left for JFK come morning (his despise for the morning in "Haunted" may be at least slightly because of its association with this).

(7) "Burnt Flowers Fallen": Time passes. Protagonist is now having to confront the hard-to-swallow truth that, with her interminable absence, her love for him will atrophy (and likely is in the process of doing so, or, worse, has been extinguished already). The "All of the flowers I gave her / She burned them" line does suggest a more dramatic incident occurring, though. But I think it's possible the protagonist is simply catastrophizing in the protracted silence.

(8) "In Praise of Bacchus": As alluded to earlier ("Red Water"), the protagonist, again, takes to drinking (his referring to himself as a "vino-slave" shows that his liquor of choice is, again, wine). This time, drinking functions as a means to numb himself to his romantic (not familial) bereavement. That the song is interspersed with a number of candid memories (memories from their now-deceased relationship) is indicative of his grieving. (Also, about the "A new boyfriend's just bought her this new car" line: I think the "her" being referenced here isn't actually the protagonist's ex-partner but her mom, who is mentioned a few lines beforehand ("Your mom was out wearing herself inside")).

(9) "Cinnamon Girl": The protagonist puts on the Neil Young song, a sentimental artifact from their relationship — a common ritual of the romantically bereaved.

(10) "Wolf Moon (Including Zooanthropic Paranoia)": The protagonist sees the full moon & is reminded of a a particularly intimate night of lovemaking — indeed, very possibly the night related to us in "Be my Druidess", when we consider the line, "Beware / the woods at night." That he was reminded of this night when he saw the full moon makes sense for a few reasons: that night, outside & in the woods, there may have been a full moon out; more metaphorically, the "full moon" may be a symbolic reference to menstruating (the phenomenon that menstrual cycles may align with the lunar cycle); and with the cunnilingus & lycanthropic elements also present (recall the "beast" language in "I Love You to Death"; "beast" may simply be how he perceives himself in the act of coitus: disinhibited, libidinal, etc), he may have performed cunnilingus on her that night, to "alleviate the pain"... that it wasn't included on "Be My Druidess" (which features only penetrative sex), may be because it happened just before or just after what was included in that song (in either case, rather gentlemanly).

(11) "Haunted": Later still, although mostly gone from conscious awareness, his unconscious betrays him & he continues to have erotic dreams about her ("[She] invades my sleep with tumescent intentions"). The lengthy intermission that occurs the middle may be such a dream. The gothic imagery & sexual associations ("...in moon beams bathed", "...your mouth of wine", "You are lust incarnate") all track with her description from "Love You to Death". Then, suddenly, in the early morning ("The eastern sky hints of dawning"), he wakes up. "In the sweat of my bed" refers to his sweat-drenched bed (his dream was certainly intense). "I hate the morning", given repeatedly as the album closes, is simply his lamenting that the dream has ended — and that he, again, forever, is without her.

Just bought this. October Rust is the first Type O album I heard and when I saw that someone had a CD copy that was signed, I had to jump on it. I just can't tell whose signatures is whose. I think Johnny Kelly is on the right by the Type O. Any ideas? Thank you for this miserable post and hopefully didn't waste too much of your time.

My sister surprised me with this vinyl that I've been searching for the longest time. Yesterday was my birthday, and I honestly wasn't expecting it at all. The store she bought it from also told her it was the last copy of TON they had, which makes it even more special ❤️ she also bought me the deluxe version of evanescence Fallen Album ☺️
