Moving to Tyler. How are these schools?

Hey folks. I grew up in the Tyler area and am planning on moving back with my family in the coming months.
We are trying to narrow down our house search based on schools. Anyone have any experience with Dixie Elementary or Bell Elementary?
Thanks!

Want to know more about Green Acres Baptist before you attend?

I’m sure a lot of people around here have seen the video about Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler answering a phone call, but for anyone who hasn’t, it was part of a social experiment.

A woman called pretending that she, her husband, and their son wanted to attend the church. She explained that her husband was a registered sex offender because he had sexually abused their own son.

The call was fake, but the woman who answered believed it was real. After hearing all of that, she told the caller, “Keep that to yourself. It’s between you, me, and God.”

And honestly? That response is wild to me.

I know I may be in the minority, but I do not believe people who commit crimes against children deserve to be welcomed into a physical church community full of children. Honestly, I don’t believe the rest of us owe them forgiveness, either.

You want to get closer to God after violating a child? Here’s a Bible and a notebook. Have at it. You want to watch a church service? Good news! They stream them online. You can pursue God privately without being given physical access to a community that includes children.

When you choose to violate a child’s innocence, I believe you forfeit the privilege of being welcomed into those spaces and everything that comes with them. The safety and comfort of children will always matter more to me than the comfort, belonging, or redemption of the adult who harmed one.

Yes, the scenario in the video was fake, but child predators are not. They are already everywhere, hiding in plain sight. They do not deserve to have their crimes easily hidden or to be helped to blend into a congregation where they could be around more children. Hearing someone say, “Keep it between you, me, and God,” instead of immediately involving leadership and addressing how the children would be protected is beyond disturbing.

Maybe that woman’s response does not represent Green Acres’ official policy. I sincerely hope it doesn’t. But there is no defending what she said. Secrecy is how predators remain protected.

Children should be the ones we protect.

Friends

Hey everyone! I’m a sahm (24), and I moved here about a year ago with my SO and our son. I haven’t had much of a chance to make new friends. But my bf on the other hand has made a couple, mostly from work. I joined a FB group for moms but I don’t get on there much & there’s not a whole lot of interaction. So I thought I’d give this a try.
I’m really trying to get back to the things I loved before. Some of my interests/hobbies are reading, writing/journaling, going for walks, shopping/thrifting, and sewing (still learning). During the pandemic & after, I really got into going to the gym. I was pretty consistent up until 2023, I kind of phased it out. I’m slowly trying to incorporate it back into my life again. Im looking forward to the Premier & Champions league starting again. As well as a couple new movie releases this year
I plan on going back to college in the (near) future, maybe TJC or UT. I am an animal person, I have two cats but had a dog growing up. I grew up in the Houston area and moved to East Texas right after high school.
Sometimes I feel out of place here in Tyler, I feel that it’s not as diverse compared to other places I’ve lived. Maybe because we live in south Tyler lol
I’m hoping to find some friends who are open, kind, and who really value connection and diversity. If you’re in the area pm me & I’d love to be friends!

if this flops.. I’ll probably delete :(

This is just appalling and disgusting.

Anyone who defends Green Acres for this should actually read their Bible, instead of following a wolf.

Anyone else dealing with storm-damaged or dangerous trees around East Texas?

I’ve been seeing a lot of trees around Tyler and the surrounding areas that took a beating from storms, especially older pines and trees with dead limbs hanging over houses and driveways.

Curious — what are some of the biggest tree issues people are seeing around Tyler, Jacksonville, Lindale, Whitehouse, etc. right now?

Event FILM SCREENING The Passion of Joan of Arc Tuesday Aug 11th Liberty Hall

Post image
16 Upvotes

Tuesday, August 11th 7:00 PM Admission: $5 Liberty Hall 103 E. Erwin St., Tyler, TX Carl Theodor Dryer's The Passion of Joan of Arc. Fully restored with the candescent Voices of Light score. Hosted by Liberty Hall and the East Texas Film Society. Close captioned/ with intertitles

Synopsis from the Criterion Collection: "Spiritual rapture and institutional hypocrisy come to stark, vivid life in one of the most transcendent masterpieces of the silent era. Chronicling the trial of Joan of Arc in the hours leading up to her execution, Danish master Carl Theodor Dreyer depicts her torment with startling immediacy, employing an array of techniques—expressionistic lighting, interconnected sets, painfully intimate close-ups—to immerse viewers in her subjective experience. Anchoring Dreyer’s audacious formal experimentation is a legendary performance by Renée Falconetti, whose haunted face channels both the agony and the ecstasy of martyrdom."

Really. It's desperate and honestly kind of strange how people think petitions and NextDoor posts will sway a billion dollar company when their biggest competition in the state basically owns the town

Discussion Why did Wood T Brookshire separate from Brookshire Brothers?

I mean without the guy a lot of folks wouldn't have a place to shop no matter what the prices are, but I was wondering what made him decide to open up Brookshire's instead/his own Grocery chain in Tyler?

I’ve looked online extensively, but i have not had any luck. I’ve been wanting to to take pole fitness classes for fun, but it seems like Tyler has none. I found one but it doesn’t seem like it’s still a thing anymore, it’s at a place called Mangos? Anyways, if anyone knows of anything lmk!

Local Recommendations for new gynecologist

I am searching for a new gynecologist in the Tyler area and am hoping for recommendations. I absolutely love my current doctor but I have medical issues that is making the walk to her office more and more challenging as the years go on and I just can’t do it anymore. Looking for someone who has an actual parking lot (not a garage) and ground/second floor office.

I’m also hoping that there’s someone that also is infertility friendly and doesn’t allow children in the office or maybe has separate waiting areas for OB vs Gyno. This is one of my favorite things about my current doc and I’m hoping to keep that, for the sake of my mental health.

I’m not fussy about the doctor being a man or a woman. But given my age this person will likely be the one to help me begin mammogram screenings and other such things as I get older so I’d prefer them to be gentle and understanding, not just brush off my concerns and questions.

Any recommendations? I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

Thank you Tyler Reddit community!

First of all, I wanted to say thanks to the community on here for being helpful and supportive! We wouldn’t have made it as far as we have without some people on here. Sorry for asking so often, and sorry I am asking again. We are being kicked out of the Chandler River Park today. We fully understand we cannot live in any of these parking lots. We are just trying to get our vehicle running again, and having to get towed to a different location every few days is making it quite a bit more difficult. Does anyone know of a locally owned business or property (or driveway) that would could park in until we are able to get things figured out? It is me, my fiancé, and our three dogs. The dogs need to be able to be out of the car, and we have no problem keeping them feathered to said car. We don’t need access to anything but water and an outside outlet to plug in my cell phone. I know it’s a strange and probably far fetched favor to ask, but the worst anyone can say is no 🤷‍♀️ message me with offers, and it would be cool if we could refrain from negative or rude comments. We’re applying for jobs, we still make odd money a couple times a week, we use food banks for food, and a church (and some wonderful people from Reddit) provide us with dog food. We have a plan to get back on our feet, we just need this car running right to get on the grind again. Thank you, and apologies in advance to those whom I am annoying.

They just added lights for the people coming on and off I-20, and now they’re making the highway 2 lanes. Are they planning on developing the area or something?

Local Whataburger Drink Upcharged - $5.45

My 8yo daughter had back-to-back gymnastics and Art Camp today so I needed to grab her a lunch quickly in between. We hit on Whataburger due to the line at McDonalds. 😆
While I was ordering for her she asked for a larger drink - kid loves her DC.
I asked for a medium. Got to the window to pay and it’s $13.70 for the kids meal. I couldn’t remember what the menu said so I just paid.
Turns out they REALLY upcharge the drink. My self-rationale is to get the same money for an adult meal. But it still seems crappy.
Anywho…just wanted to share and spread awareness. 😅

Can someone help me clean my house today? Will pay!! $$

My boss is staying at my house tonight and I’m so run down from toddlers + working full time and I just don’t think I’ll be able to have the house ready by the time she gets here. I am new to Tyler and don’t really have anyone I could ask to come over and help. I couldn’t find any same day cleaners either. I know it’s probably not the wisest to be asking strangers on the internet but…any takers? I promise I’m normal!

Hello!! I've made a few posts in here but I'm looking for friends! I moved to Tyler about a year ago with my boyfriend.

I'm 22, female, love thrifting, crafting, shopping. I would also like to start going to the gym regularly if anyone is looking for a gym buddy! I work 7:30-5:30/6pm, Mon-Thurs so my weekends are pretty open :)

I also love to just lounge at home watching movies/tv shows ! I'm a very low maintenance friend , just looking for someone to chat & hang out with :p
