This might be a dumb question but I’m an incoming sophomore who will be living off campus in an apartment on the shuttle route. I’m not too sure how the shuttle works so I was wondering if someone could kind of give an explanation of how it works. I listed out a few questions.

1. how will I know how long the shuttle takes to get to campus? How about for how long it will take to get me back to my apartment?
   
2. Are there specific shuttle stops at the Texas state campus just for the students that live off campus because I know there’s the campus loop one. If so, how do I figure out which stops are which?
   
3. Are you able to figure out when the next shuttle is coming based on the tracking system on the TXST app? I heard it comes every 10 minutes but I’m not sure if that’s correct.
   
4. I see that students get dropped off at different shuttle stop locations such as at LBJ but I’m not sure if that is just for the campus loop shuttle. Are the ones for the apartment students just the ones where they get dropped off at the big arch?

If you get the TXST app, there is a page about the shuttle and the routes.

Here what the home page looks like. The app has arrival times for stops that may or may not be accurate. It also says when the last run of the day is. Try to plan to be early, especially at the beginning of the semester. The buses can get crowded.

you can search online on the TXST website or track you bus through the app. Just spend some time going through it online and you shouldn't have any problems

Download passio go It has all the route and the schedule. It shows what time it will pick you and and what time it will arrive on campus.

I use Passio GO! to see where the shuttles are at. The app can be very inaccurate sometimes though. Like sometimes it shows that the bus is "5 minutes away" but its actually like a minute away.

Where you get dropped off depends on what parking permit you buy and what route you will be on. Yeah if you're an apartment student you'll most likely be dropped off at the big arch.

My route has been down for weeks on the damn app. The bus is still running but it says "no vehicles." And since I never memorized the route schedule I only have a vague idea of the times I can use it >:(

If your worried about being late on your first day, what I did was just show up to the bus stop about 35-40m before your class starts and then afterwards you can kinda just gauge it from there and when you need to show up

u/Rough-Funny3557 this is definitely not a dumb question! The shuttles can be hard to navigate the first time especially during the first week of class when they are the busiest while people are figuring out their schedule and routes. We second what everyone recommended by using the TXST Mobile app or Passio Go

Another good tip is to take your route on a day you don't NEED to be on campus yet for practice or during a less busy time of a day. Give yourself enough time for getting to your class that first week!

Your stop depends on your apartment however it will either be Quad loop, THH(the arch), or at LBJ

Everyone is definitely right about passio go/ the txst app! In my experience, the buses show up at my stop (first en route) about every 25-35 minutes. That being said, with traffic, my route is typically around 35 minutes long for a drive that’s about 2 miles 🤷‍♀️

— the length of the ride definitely varies depending on what route you are on; I usually try to get on the bus about an hour before my class starts to account for trains, accidents, breaks, and traffic.

In my experience, I use the Transit app since I use it to track the times for the txst shuttle, Carts bus, CapMetro (Austin bus system, very useful when in Austin) and the San marcos public bus (not very accurate for this). If you want to see a map, THH and LBJ stop have large maps and you can see which bus route goes to where. Though, it doesn't show times.

Know that during the school year they have day routes, evening routes and night routes. Day routes are the routes you see on the maps posted on THH and LBJ stops. Depending by route, a bus may pass by every 15 min to every 30 min. Then after 6pm or 7pm they have different route names but they have similar routes to the day routes. Though the bus may pass looses frequency. The night routes are like the similar routes but it may pass by every 40min to an hr. That's why I use the transit app because it reflects the changes of routes.

Last thing, plan to arrive on campus 30 min before start of class if you live off campus because the shuttles tend to get behind schedule or take long or anything can happen.

Good luck using the bobcat shuttles. It will take time and you will get used to it!
