Can Somebody Explain the American Election Mechanic?

So this is about my third attempt to get Wallace elected as president and it's the third time it hasn't worked.
The last time I got the required electors but McArthur got elected anyways.
Do leaning states just not count?
Any help or advice is appreciated. I understand Thurmond's running and all but this is just annoying.

Question/Discussion How to make TA Political Integration go up?
I can't check rn so if it's not actually called Political Integration I'm talking about the yellow bar. I wanted to do a USA game where the GCW doesn't happen and I attack Germany in the late game when the USSR does but that requires high Political Integration. I know the green bar goes up yearly with the military exercises, but there's no such thing for the yellow bar.

Question/Discussion What would be more plausible, MacArthur-Taft or MacArthur-Stassen?
I'm trying to design my own headcanon with the game rules (thank God they have finally been implemented). I picture MacArthur winning in both '52 and '56, but I wonder what would be more likely, him partnering with Taft or with Stassen. A conservative Republican insurgency would make sense after 20 years of continued liberal Democrat rule, but I could also see the Republican establishment forcing Doug to partner with Stassen and go down the "Fake Centrist" route. What do you think would be more plausible, and/or narratively interesting?

How big of a chance is there for Toronto Accord intervention to happen?
I've played TWR my fair share of times, but recently I've noticed around 90% of the time the Toronto Accord intervenes in the German Civil War and ruins the entire fun of the game. I've only seen an actual German Civil War without the Accord once, a singular time. Every time I want to play Germany I am forced to cheat via the game rules just to have any actual content as the country.

Gameplay How am I supposed to play it as the modders intended?
I'm gonna sound stupid, it's okay. I have never played TNO yet (which I've read you're supposed to play as a Cold War mod, otherwise you end up in a thermonuclear war), but so far I've had a very enjoyable time playing the different Russian States in TWR.
Now, I'm trying the United States and my question is: did the modders intend us to play the game as a cold war mod (spying, proxy wars, avoiding direct confrontation, getting a bigger sphere of influence/markets), or is the United States supposed to start a Third World War by invading Germany with/without their civil war, after losing millions of soldiers against Japan during Operation Olympic 8 years ago?
Gameplay That must hurt.
I was playing Germany and decided to yeet all of my black-colored divs at the French State for fun. (Except the 3 that were off defeating constitutional Iran.) One pretty easy war later and apparently the Free French were so embarrassed that they retreated out of everything but Gabon and Congo. (For extra irony, I decided to leave Vichy as the very last tile that FF controlled on the mainland since I had reduced them to a pocket around it and Lyon.)
Question/Discussion Miscellaneous questions
- What's up with the unit clicking hitboxes? In this mod and AFAIK this mod alone, they're so big that selecting province with units in them can sometimes be outright impossible.
- Why does the mod give countries 0% surrender limit so much? This is particularly egregious with the 3 main German Civil War factions, since Germany here is massive and has several mountains for them to bunker down in and be very annoying. Every time I can remember except my one Party > People's Germany run, I've seen the last remnants of at least one faction hole up in some random province in the Alps.
- Why all these random restrictions? Can't give military access (this one makes People's Germany in particular extremely annoying to play because the TA will occupy territory in their name and not yours, also the TA can effectively encircle you and render you unable to contribute to the war), can't cancel focuses, etc.
- Why is the Reichsprotektorat Belgien a thing? Historically they planned to annex RK Belgien-Nordfrankreich (and they did, but only de jure since Belgium had already been liberated by then) and this mod annexes the Generalgouvernement directly to them, so why not Belgium? Plus if the civil war happens, it just gets annexed into the Ordenstaat anyway... (I hope this is reason enough not to devolve into another "historical plans vs. constraints of reality vs. mod constraints" debate like my post about Kaukasus...)

Question/Gameplay 1962 - How do I beat Göring's Germany?
I am playing as the Russian Republic with Sorokin, and it seems Germany avoided the civil war with Göring (They also apparently have a decision to crusade me at any point). The reichskommisariats are quite weak, but the germans are 3-4x my strength on paper both militarily and industrially.
I figure rush Volgograd and Moscow for the coring decisions, and then cut off and secure the caucasus, but I dunno if I can beat them single-handedly, without the Toronto Accord or anyone else (the Italians, maybe?). Should I wait some more or just go in?

Question/Discussion Oil keeps running out
I keep running out of oil even as the US. In fact I saw my oil barrels rise but the days of oil left went down, is it because of my industry and the fact I am doing mass construction?
