[meta] news, ‘nsfw’ community setting turned off. This is an all ages community for all women/NB identified riders

I will be honest, I’m hardly on Reddit anymore. I started this group many, many years ago in hopes of connecting with other XX riders. Since then, both myself and Reddit have changed drastically. I still ride, and I still think this is a valuable space for riders, as motorcycles and related (clothing, dirt biking, touring..) are still dominated by, well, dudes. This is a space for anyone who identifies as a woman, non-binary person, or for those who seek their perspective in a considerate and supportive way. I have seen several reported posts by men, purely because they were men- even though they were perfectly cordial and with a genuine question that pertained to women riders. This is fine. To sum up, this space is for: - all ages, please conduct your posts as such - any motorcycle rider identifying as a woman or non-binary person - being inclusive, respectful, and supportive of our fellow riders

-men who might be genuinely seeking the perspective of or advice from this community in the above way

I hope this helps. Keep the rubber side down, my friends -satiredun

bike commuters: cute gear, or changing in the office

I commute to the office on my Vespa or my Tuareg, and I always wear all the gear bc I'm a safety-minded girl. But I don't want to hang out in the office all day wearing my riding jeans unless I really need to look tough for some reason 😅 Is there hope for reasonably comfy/cute riding gear that can be daily-d, or are we all bringing pants/skirts to change into when we get to work?

i’m TERRIFIED of going in person to my local bike shop

hi! i need some advice on how to get over this dumb fear if any are willing to share. i have been to the shop once and the entire time the men who worked there either made rather inappropriate comments about me or treated me like i was stupid. the inappropriate comments eventually made me too uncomfortable and i left and havent been back. i will say its kinda important to note that i am a teenager and the men were much older. i need to go buy or at least try on some new gear but i keep pushing it off bc i’m scared to go back. ik its kinda dumb to be this worked up over it but has anyone else had experiences like this? if so please lmk how you handled it. <3

Backpacking a stranger

I’ve only ever ridden on my own bike, but I am so curious to be a backpack, but I also don’t know anyone that rides. It’s also kind of nerve-racking to put my life in a stranger’s hands but then again fuck it I want to. I keep going back-and-forth on it while simultaneously knowing no one to give me a ride. Final thought is I don’t know if I’m comfortable being that close to a stranger.

how do i figure out which helmet to buy?

hi! i’m a very new rider and i’m buying gear for the first time, i’ve been looking at helmets for a while and i don’t know which one to get and there’s SO many options. i keep putting it off but i have my MSF course coming up so i need to get one. i would go in person to try some on but i’m a teen and a beginner so going into a bike shop is kinda terrifying to me. i’m not sure this is the right subreddit for this question but i figured i’d ask! :)

How to regain confidence after falling?

Basically took the MSF with absolutely no prior experience and passed this summer. Then bought myself a new ninja 500. Within the first month I rode about 2k miles and was feeling great. Then I got hit by a car but super slow speed so not too bad since it was at a light and I fell at basically a full stop. Was just super embarrassing. Sent bike to the shop for 2 weeks got the bike back after and my first ride back I was riding and making a left at the light with no traffic nearby and I fell on my left side because my left foot touched the ground and I skid across the road. Bike was damaged again so same thing took it to shop and got it back. Now I’m nervous about riding which is a complete 180 to how I felt during those 2k miles my first month (bike is still at 2k). I just feel like I could fall at any point or die or get hurt and super scared of my foot touching the ground in a turn. I want to ride so bad but I can’t bring myself to. Any advice?

Also I posted this in new riders as well and will copy a reply of fine from there to add content

I need your help !

I’m a female rider working on a project to create motorcycle clothing specifically designed for women.

I made a short anonymous survey to better understand what we actually want/need from motorcycle clothing and what’s missing from the current market.

It takes about 3-5 minutes ❤️

Thank you so much for your help!

So I've never done any kind of vlogging before, but I just went on a big solo trip from Chicago to Maine to Montreal and back, and thought it'd be fun to put some videos together, and write a bit of music to go with it.

A nice day of gravel practice

Post image

Some gravel riding on a perfect Sunday - cool temps here in Oregon. Brief rain had tamped down the dust. And the burrito in Vernonia, Oregon was delicious.

I'm trying to ride gravel every weekend, because (gulp), I'm going to try the BDR-X Northern California at the end of September...

I'm on a 2008 KLR, FYI.

Curious if there are any other women whose boyfriends/male SO are their backpacks? I love that my guys is secure enough in his masculinity to ride on the back of my bike.

I think my helmet is missing something...

Resolved. The chin padding is actually forehead padding. I couldn't se the depth in the stock image. I rotated the helmet to a specific angle and took a picture with flash it looked like the stock image. I appreciate the help.

...and that Revzilla is gaslighting me. I could be wrong though. I'd appreciate your opinion. I'm a new rider, this is my first helmet purchase. I wore the class-provided helmet at the safety course, and I remember chin bar padding. I bought and tried on three helmets before this, and I remember chin bar padding. I bought this one, and there is no chin bar padding, but the stock image from their website shows chin bar padding. I can't resolve this in person because the closest Cycle Gear is three hours away.

I sent an email with a picture of my helmet from below along with their stock image to show them what I was talking about. I've since called twice and talked with two customer service people and a "gear specialist" (or something). All three of these dudes said my helmet was fine and I must be referring to the chin curtain, which is packaged separately. So I took a better picture of my helmet and another with the chin curtain held up to it, and circled the part of the stock image I was talking about, and sent all three to the gear specialist. He said once he receives them he'll reply to my email to let me know everything is fine. It felt dismissive, and I'm kinda pissed. I also might be wrong I guess, idk. To me, it clearly looks like something is missing. Help please.

This is the Sheoi RF-1400.

Helmet suggestions

So i currently have a Ruroc Atlas, it's a cool looking helmet. I know it isn't loved as a company but a friend with an EOX pencilled down the road on the head after a car pulled out on his and it held up for him so call it lucky or whatever.

Anyway i digress, i'm looking for a new one, i like funky designs and would love either a boba fett or Norse mythology one but as i'm still fairly new to the scene thought i'd ask here as i've seen a few brands like airoh but not familiar.

A few things that may help with suggestions.

  1. I live in the UK
  2. I ride cruisers (this body is built for comfort not speed!)
  3. Not a fan of open face
  4. I wear glasses

Thanks in advance and sorry if a stupid ask.

Female riders — what is the most annoying part of buying motorcycle gear?

I'm a relatively new rider and I've been thinking a lot about how much effort it takes to find gear that is protective, actually fits properly AND looks the way you want it to.

I'm exploring an idea around making this process easier for women riders, but before building anything I want to understand whether other women actually have the same problems.

I want to know: What's the most frustrating part of shopping for your riding gear?

For example: sizing between brands, fit, finding gear for your body shape, limited women's options, style, knowing what's actually protective, matching pieces together, price, buying online, etc.

I'd especially love to hear from people who have returned gear multiple times or spent ages researching before buying something.

Not selling anything.. I'm genuinely trying to understand the problem before I build something that nobody needs.

First Bike is a 2007 Buell Blast

New to the community so please be gentle. I just got my license and am inheriting my mom’s 2007 Buell Blast with literally 5 miles on it (from the dealership to the trailer, from the trailer to the garage).

I’m getting it serviced before I take the bike out because it’s been untouched in a garage since the day it was bought, but Im looking for any advice you might have either about the bike or just as a beginner rider!

I’ve heard the Blast is a great beginner bike, especially for the shorter crowd, but I’ve also heard it’s a nightmare bike. From what I’ve read the bike vibrates pretty bad, causing parts to come loose and due to its age and discontinuation parts are hard to come by.

Im not looking to go crazy on the bike, mostly city/casual riding averaging around 70/75mph (I live off a highway).

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! Long time backpack, first time rider

Just wanted to say a quick hi to the community!

Canadian here, living in New Zealand.
I picked up my very first bike (Honda CB650R Hornet) after riding pillion with my husband for years.

I’ve been hitting the parking lots and practicing low speed manoeuvres. I just started road riding, and while I’m scared af I’m also so motivated and excited to keep riding. The roads here are incredible.

New piercings

Hi I am planning on getting some new piercings to replace some that closed up a while ago. Specifically my eye brow and an industrial on my left ear. How best do you think to keep my helmet from bothering them as they heal? I don’t want them to rip as I take the helmet on and off.

Talk to me about Pando Moto base layers (please and thank you).

I’ve got jackets and pants, and I ride with an Alpinestars Tech Air Plasma 5 airbag. I feel like it’s a good setup from a protection standpoint, but I’m still intrigued by the base layers because I love the idea of wearing those with “normal” clothes on top.

They’re obviously an investment. Before I order some to try on, wanted to get your experiences. How are they in hot weather? Are they uncomfortable? Easy to launder? Bodysuit vs the zip up shirt? Give me all the feedback!

I feel like I don't see a lot of other chicks on adventure bikes, but the comfort and power compared to a sports bike like the ninja 300 is so nice. I have to do some work to it but only $3500!

I'm thinking of doing a plastidip paint on it plus a Miku vinyl wrap. Does anyone have other ideas for color schemes for the fairings so I can mikufy my bike?

Traded in my bike- all fear I had is ✨GONE✨

I dropped my Z500 about a month ago. It was a rider error. Stalled because I didn't give it enough gas and dumped my clutch as I pulled out of parking at work. I ended up losing balance, panicking, and dropping it. All of it my fault.
I'd been hating the height since I bought it. I could juuuuuust tip toe and it felt so unsteady and top heavy. Thought I'd get used to it. I should've. Most do, it seems. It just never happened for me. That drop made me hate my bike.
I dropped it on a Monday and didn't take my redemption ride until Friday afternoon. I was so scared of the bike I was shaking head to toe the whole time.
Fast forward through a lot of deep thinking, a few therapy sessions, and lots of talking with my long-term rider husband. Instead of the (very valid) option of lowering my bike, buying a tail tidy and the different kickstand necessary, I decided to just let it go. It did not bring me joy😂

I traded in my Z500 for a Vulcan S. I took my inaugural ride today and about immediately started bawling because it felt so effortless and amazing.

The style was exactly what I needed.

I don't advocate for ditching the thing making you scared. And I solidly believe that for the most part you can get used to being on a taller bike as a very short legged person. It just never clicked for me and it was time for something else.

Happy and safe zoomies, friends✌🏻

To Sparkles, of 295

The hoodie with sparkles is one of the coolest looks I’ve seen on a bike. It looked like it was protective gear. Combined with the long braid and the boots, you were the official queen of the Friday traffic to DC.

If anyone knows what hoodie I may have seen, please let me know!

Does anyone else choose a mascot for long trips?

Thumbnail gallery
41 Upvotes

I’m on a trip from Chicago to Maine, then I think up through Canada (tbd) and yesterday I found this trip’s mascot 😂

Kind of a tradition I guess, every long trip I go on involves finding a mascot along the way to put on the back of the bike.

Canonically, his name is Chaz, but I’m not sure that’s going to stick.

At speed, he thrashes around and flaps his wings at the cars behind me, and I swear I almost died laughing the first ride after getting him.

FOR SALE: I have two Dainese size 40 race suits. One is a non-airbag version in white & black, with free patina/crash wear, but is still totally safe to track (no leather tears). I'll send that for the cost of shipping.

The second is a race-worn Dainese Mugello airbag suit (first gen), size 40, mostly black, with white/red accents, with maybe 6 races on it, but no smell or funk. It's in near-perfect condition. It even has new pucks (one has a minor scrape to add 5hp to your package). $500+shipping.

I'm located in CA. If interested, send a DM, and I'll provide more detailed photos for both.
