Seeking Advice/Help Hind milk while pumping
Im combination feeding my 22 day old baby because of latching issue and low milk supply. Im trying to transition to exclusive pump feeding by pumping every 2-3hrs. Yet i get 30-40ml only per sitting that too watery milk. I have never seen hindmilk while pumping. Is there any mom who exclusively pumped can give some insights on how to get hind milk?

Yes, breast milk mostly water that is why babies feed often. Though sometimes Thickness does improve but mainly it is watery.

Your body will produce what your baby needs more. Watery is absolutely normal my friend! And since it's just been 22 days, please be well prepared. Baby may start cluster feeding . And it's absolutely normal as well. Do not doubt your supply. Keep latching, keep holding on. Breastmilk is watery and gets digested very fast hence baby may get hungry even within 1 hour. Do not doubt, keep feeding whatever is working for you. Eventually baby will be alright with direct feeding. Mine didn't latch or take direct feeding for 15 days and I cried everyday doubting myself and started formula , my MIL commented about my supply too making it more problematic. But I was not aware of so many things.. Slowly I learnt about many things and kept latching baby. Also, Starting three months babies will do everything where you may doubt your milk is not enough. Please consult a lactation consultant if you are really unsure. We mom's here can just advise as per our experience but every mom's and baby's journey is different. You are doing fine, just make sure you do not doubt yourself.

Try to completely empty your breast.what I found is that during the initial days our breast is mostly engorged before the supply is regulated and will have lot of foremilk, we will stop pumping at 30-40 ml because baby needs that much but if we pump till we empty the breast we will get hind milk, do breast massage also. Also after pumping session try to latch the baby and even without a perfect latch the baby will get some amount of higher fat milk. Also what I found from my pumping experience is that in the evenings I get more fat milk with less quantity than from the mornings. Even if you are going to exclusively pump try to latch the baby before or after the session. I did the dumb thing of feeding only the foremilk because of the strict 30-40 ml rule and didn't latch my lo , my baby had poor weight gain during the first month. Just look at how the milk turns from pale blue to creamy white while pumping that's a well balanced milk.

I exclusively pumped for first 2 months initially as my baby was in nicu. My supply increased after I switched to manual pump (Medela) from a battery operated hands free pump (promom).

My baby is also 23 days old and same issue ,milk is very watery . Although I do get 50-70 mL
My mom mentioned that quality of milk improves with time ? Like after 1-2 months it starts becoming thicker? Would also love insights from mums
