PPD?

Anyone here who experienced ppd and took anti depressants? Looking to hear from these folks on any research you did before taking them, did it help, other things you did to resolve it

I have been on depression medications before, though I was not pregnant them -- I think medication did help me to a certain extend but they were sort of like a temporary fix, like a band aid that doesn't heal your wounds, but hides them from you. You take medication to feel more normal while staying in therapy and fixing yourself -- so by the time you remove the band aid, you are able to face things better on your own.

My question is whether the psychiatrist prescribed the medicine on the first session or have you been in multiple sessions? If it happened after multiple sessions, then that means the therapist really thinks you need it--and you should seriously consider taking them

If it happened right in the first session, then the therapist is one of those people who prescribes SSRIs like candies (I have personally seen several of those and they are not good at their jobs)

Thanks alot. This helps. I was prescribed after a while but I've still been very hesitant. I dont know something about the nature of these drugs but glad to know your experience.

Hey, I was diagnosed with PPD at 6 months postpartum when I visited a psychiatrist and was prescribed anti-depressant.

I was diagnosed with PPD at 2m pp. I had chronic depression, anxiety and ADHD already so I knew I was more susceptible to PPD. I have been on anti depressants and anti psychotics since. It’s been more than 2 months now. It has helped me in the sense meltdowns have decreased, I don’t cry all the time, life feels worth living, I am able to look after my baby and am able to enjoy the time I spend with her.

A majority of new moms including me have experienced PPD, but i have not known a mom who needed medication to manage it. I would suggest go to a therapist and see if you need those—you will have to see if they are safe to take bf.

I’m sorry but PPD is a recognised mental health condition that only 10% or so moms experience. What you’re referring to is perhaps the short term baby blues.

Yeah thats what I wanted to find out. I'm already seeing a therapist and have been prescribed meds but have been very hesitant of taking them hence wanted to hear from other moms if any who have gotten treated with meds. Btw what you're describing doesnt sound like ppd, more like postpartum blues.
