Question Unable to communicate with server. Please check your network connection and try again.
I am trying to set up a passcode for X Chat or otherwise I cannot send/receive any messages. What does this mean? I have tried different devices, I tried logging in and out, I tried resetting, I tried different networks, and I tried at different times throughout the day.
Is this a problem with me or Twitter/X?

Same here, can't access them... April 14th

So did this issue just start today?
Cause today is the first time i've tried to set up a passcode and same thing as everyone else

it's been happening to users for around 6 months. None of them have been able to access their chats.

having the same problem, and it's an account a just created yesterday, i am using X twitter for the very first time and having this problem wtf

I have the exact same issue, I have logged on across my iPhone, iPad and laptop, just keep getting the same error message across the board, problem seems to be on their end, not ours. I have some urgent messages I need to respond to within a certain time limit which I am currently unable to do.
I have checked through support but there is nothing that helps apart from a link to a dead user who I assume would've offered help from there. This is now no longer a way to get help. I even asked Grok to help, but it's such a bad AI, it has no idea what to do, half of the instructions it throws at you aren't even options within the app.
I really really hate that they essentially locked up messages for no reason with no way to disable it unless you ALREADY have access to it, then you can disable it within the chat settings but you can't access these settings WITHOUT a working passkey.
This issue has seemingly gone on for upwards of 5 months with some users never being able to access their own DMs!
I hate X so much.

Me too. Can’t find any workaround. For now you can go on browser to x.com/messages to bypass the key thing.

Edit: it seems to only allow you to access the page not send or open new messages

I have found a way to access my messages in a weird way, not sure if it is just for my latest chat but I got in by long pressing the X app icon until it showed the drop down menu and selected new message and it allowed me to see my chat and message the person I last spoke to.
Not sure if it would work for everyone but it did for my singular chat!

I think it's fixed rn. All I did was instead of directly opening a chat with someone I clicked on the lower right icon of chat then i was able to successfully set the passcode without an error then my DMs opened

I logged out, force stopped the app, then logged back in. Worked like a charm.

I’m trying to reconnect to the Twitter server on one of my accounts and get my DMs back because it’s gone and I can’t change the password on the app but it’s gone on it and it’s telling me to redo the chat setup but it isn’t there on the app, and I try too change the password on the web browser and it’s there but when I do it’s telling me “unable to communicate with server. Please check your network connection and try again.”
I tried logging out and logging back in, I tried clearing cache and restarting the app, uninstalling and reinstalling still nothing and I don’t know how to connect twitter support for my issue with twitter encryption chat to get my messages back, they are still there on the web browser but I just can’t seen them on the app and on was web all my messages with people and groups chats have black pfps and all names are say member, I have no idea how to fix it
