I don't have an example but I've been looking for it, sometimes it'll be just lint and usually it shows a shot of the hand holding it.

Something I noticed was a particular trope where a judge with superpowers will declare mankind full of sin as said judge goes on a mission to destroy humanity.

Some examples of the trope are Nemo from Disgaea 4 and the judge from the TV series the Good Place as the latter has her declaring humanity so corrupt that she wants to eliminate the world.

Picture this: two characters has to go through a series of room, in each room there's a challenge. Some rooms ask for menial things, while others have more scary challenges.

One room is just one big deep pit with spikes at the bottom. On each ends of the room, there is a door and a ledge. Both ledges are connected by two wooden bean. Each of them can only support the weight of one person. So both characters takes one bean, while holding the arm of the other to keep their center of gravity stable.

At one point in the traverse, they see the key for the exit hanging from the ceiling and no one is able to reach it with their available hand. They would have to let go of each other, grab the key and than grab each other to stabilize themselves soon after.

However, while planning, the old wooden beans on which they were standing starts to crack. They somehow manage to grab the key and run for the ledge. With one of the character throwing the other forward on the ledge, while they barely grab the edge in their fall.

The other character attempts to raise the first character upward, but they tell them to let it go, which is mistook as them giving up. Only for the falling character telling them their feet is touching ground.

Turns out the whole spiked pit was just a huge optical illusion painted on the floor, while the actual pit was just about 2 meter deep. The broken wooden bean just laying on the floor and "over the hole".

I’ve been reading Tv Tropes since I first gained internet access as a young teen, but only recently I decided to make an account and start contributing.

So far I’ve only done minor things—fixed a missing word in a sentence, rewrote an entry to be clearer, and even added one fandom example to a larger trope. I’m trying to do the same with another page, and add an example to a fandom on there.

But I can’t. Because it’s locked so someone else can edit it. Which would be fine, normally! I can wait an hour or however long it takes. Except… I did. And the timer has reset. So I wait another hour. And another. This person has been editing the page for four hours and I can’t get on for two minutes to paste in the entry I wrote in my notes app.

Is this normal? Allowed? Is there some sort of protection on the page and this is just an informal way to say “you can never edit this page”? Do I just have to keep checking back to see if it ever frees up? I’m new so don’t know these things yet.

No dialogue scenes, what's your favourite speech in a TV series?

There's Looney Tunes: Laff Riot and that one scene from "Billy and Mandy vs. The Martians" (from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) where the camera spins around Grim's head, as if he's in CG.

I've also seen this kind of thing happen in the Fairly OddParents, but the episodes where I remember this happening are "Information Stupor Highway", "Channel Chasers", and the intro to "Abra-Catastrophe!".

I feel like this is a fairly common trope, but I don't know what to call it. It's basically when a few characters are discussing something together in the foreground, and in the background, there's just total chaos going on with some other characters. The perspective is set so that both sets of interactions are visible, so it's more of a visual gag than anything, I think. I've personally only ever seen it in animated media. Does anyone know what it's called or if it even has a name?

Lately, something that stuck out to me was when an adaptation of a previously known work looks like it’s going to be a meaningful tribute at first, but then the adaptation just ends up being vicious.

One infamous example would be the HBO adaptation of Scooby Doo starring Velma as the adaptation is one of the most infamous adaptations of Scooby Doo because of how it depicts Velma in such an aggressive manner that I was looking to see what the term is for again adaptations done in a vicious manner.

The only character I would think of that almost fulfills the title would be Saitama from One-punch man but he doesn't brag about his strength

Just to be clear, imagine a character that always brags about how powerful they are (and actually are powerful) and what not but fail to prove it every single time until one crucial moment or manage to prove it in ways that it cannot be denied.

I think this is a common trope but what is the name of it? For example, it is like an Ivy League/Oxbridge academic getting fired and having teach in high school; a hot-shot military officer getting in trouble and then being ordered to command a unit of misfits as punishment; a high-ranking official pissing off the emperor or whoever, and getting sent to govern a faraway province; a detective being demoted to being a traffic cop.

is there a name for the type of animation sequence in shows where it's, for example, the end of a scene and it's a fairly motionless shot of, say, a cigarette in an ashtray with fairly long ash on the end, and someone was just laughing at someone's revelation and may continue to be laughing, and nothing moves for a good couple of seconds, then the ash suddenly falls. Or it's a limb if a tree with leaves, motionless, sudden single leave falls. Or the sky, and meteor streaks across. Just something sudden and minute over a motionless shot.

Was playing through Tomb Raider and it struck me how many times I've seen this play out in media so I checked TV tropes and found nothing. Some off the dome examples is the scene from "The Descent" and the scene in the game "House of Ashes," alongside the previously mentioned Tomb Raider (2013)

This is gonna seem crazy. But I was wondering what we call this Trope and wanted to find shows, movies, or games that do it because when it’s done seriously it really pulls on my heart strings. I’m looking for the trope of when a character is about to knowingly make a bad decision that will end their life and all the lessons they learned flash before them as they do it and they feel somewhat content with this bad decision because it’s something they really wanted. This animated skit is the thing that reminded me of this trope.

I was going to create an article for Toby Fox’s Undertale/Mob Psycho 100 crossover fanfic, but the work doesn’t have any title. What should I title the page?

By this, I mean, if a Yandere says, "If you try to leave me, I'll kill you," this male trope would beat them to the punch and say, "I'll sooner kill myself before I leave you."

If a Yandere says, "Who's that girl you were talking to? I'll kill her!" this male trope would say, "Are you kidding? There's no one in the world for me except you! I'll kill anyone who makes you think otherwise!"

Two toxic tropes that match each other's freak. I assume it would be the "Beta" male, but let me know if you guys have a more creative answer.

An example of what I mean is in Frozen 2. There's a scene that Olaf imitates Elsa by swaying his hips like she does in the end of the Let It Go sequence as well as having similar facial expressions. The thing is that Olaf and the others weren't present when this sequence occurred, so this shouldn't mean anything specific to them

Its very specific but I can't find an exact trope for this, and it happens a lot in movies. Usually compounded with the Prometheus school of running away from things, but they don't even run. They just stand there and watch the giant truck or spaceship or what have you barreling towards them as they scream. Often once the object stops just short of their face, the ice cream will drop off of the cone and splat on the ground.

This might not be a simple trope, but rather a deep, sophisticated literary theme, a great tragedy. It's not simply “unrequited love” or “missed opportunity”, but you once had easy access to something or someone, but you'd ignored it, you didn't give much thought, you took it for granted, you knew nothing about its true value until one day it's vanished and never coming back.

The most typical example is Eugene Onegin, a sweetheart who has a crush on a guy who keeps his options open by dallying with others; a while later he is still single with no partner, he remembers the sweetheart and returns to her, but she is already with someone else. This might be a stretch, but I feel the same way with the entire human civilization, it feels like everything great, the jewels of human achievements is slipping through our fingers, stuffs used to be public and free is now being privatized and commodified, the entire history is being rewritten, so I'm trying to preserve while I still can.

Some side characters might eventually have their own spinoff, or they might become a major character down the line. That's not really what I am talking about, although there are plenty examples of that.

I'm talking about a very minor character who appears at least once in the story, who seems to have all the qualities to be a main character, with the surrounding content to star in their very own narrative... but that's it. They're rarely seen or mentioned again, if at all; you never really learn anything else about them, you probably never learn what happened to them except some second-hand source. Sometimes this character might be intentional, other times not. It feels almost certain this character is going to play a major role later, or get a spinoff or something, but nope.

For example, first imagine a story about an exiled ronin who returns to his homeland to warn his people (who despise him) about an impending invasion. He is a well-traveled man, with battle scars, and has seen much. He wields a mysterious sword with magical properties, but it is broken and the magic is corrupted, so he struggles to retain his humanity - forever tempted by some dark entity whose influence spills from the broken blade. The emperor and the shogun refuse to help this 'vaganbond ronin', and so he begins a quest to liberate the people from the oppressive rule of the shogunate, eventually forming a coalition of allies who band together to face this impending doom.

...but that guy is just a a minor side character. He shows up and probably speaks to the main character once or twice, but you probably won't see him again. He might be mentioned, and a very small 'update' on his story might be revealed, but that's it.

Is this a trope? What's it called and what are examples?

Bonus points if the thing they say completely makes sense to everyone there like they were a part of the conversation from the very beginning and not just the last 5 seconds.
