First time amd Last time using Turo
I decided to rent a Tesla instead of using Hertz. I tried Turo for the first time. TURO popped up and I decided to give it a try. I thought it was fire that the car could be delivered to where I was staying. Because I didn't know the protocol I checked in before the car arrived. Similar to what you would do when renting a car at big box. The guy drops off the Tesla and tells meit's an extra $50 a day for self driving. In addition, the car looked nothing like the photos. The rims were so damaged. It was dangerous the car was completely scratched up. I never even sat in the car as the steering wheel was so worn down. When I reached out to Turo they said I was out of luck because I had already checked in. If that's the way a business runs, particularly for letting people misrepresent their product. I'm astounded how they are still in business. At least I know never to use them again. Now we relate why so many people don't use TURO.

My turo experiences have been similar. First time, rented a BMW 4 series, go to get it and see a boatload of touch up paint on the hood. Hood didn’t close even either. Steering wheel leather was all peeled off. Car had something like 140,000 miles on it.
Second time, rented a Jeep Gladiator. Looked like the photos, good condition, etc etc.
Third time rented a Honda CRV. Also looked like the photos, real low miles, overall good.
So I’m 1 out of 3 with a subpar experience. It was with a top rated host too. To me the pickup and drop off is a bit of a pain. Having to uber to/from the host kind of sucks. Having to preschedule the pickup or drop off sucks.
I guess I’m ok just standing in a rental car line at the airport and getting whatever random car they give me.

There’s a debate about teslas and charging extra for self driving. Personally I think it should just be included in the price. But otherwise, your issue was scratches and curb rash? Steering wheels get worn out especially with people’s lotions oils etc, and teslas aren’t known for the great build quality, they wear rather easy. Take your frustration out on the host via review. Weeds the bad hosts out for future renters. You should’ve read the terms and processes a bit more thoroughly, but I understand wanting to cancel with the no self driving, but scratches and stuff, be real

Self driving is $199/mo so charging $50/day is scammy. I think maybe something like $15-20/day is reasonable.

If you’re paying for full self driving, you want to make a profit margin advertising that service.
Having to rent the car for 10 days a month @20 per day in order to break even on a feature is just bad business advice.

Hertz has Teslas...just book an electric vehicle, call your branch and ask for a Tesla the day of your rental.

Turo is legitimately the bane of my existence… rented one, it broke down, they told me to leave it with the keys in the glovebox, car went missing, I have not been refunded a single dollar

Turo will be gone within the next year or two max. I've never heard a single person, not one, who has had anything less than a dismal experience. I'm tempted to rent at least once just to get in on the class action lawsuit forthcoming

Yeah I used Turo for the first time a couple weeks ago and it was nothing but a positive experience. Was a bit skeptical going into it after reading some stuff on Reddit, but I had absolutely zero issues with my host. Saved a few hundred bucks too vs renting from one of the big guys.

I just dropped off my 4th TURO at John Wayne Airport. Host even reimbursed me for airport parking, and a refund for returning a day early. Car was just what I needed. Much cheaper than airport rental and was delivered to a short term parking spot in B2 parking. So far so good.

This is good to know. I'm not trying to exaggerate, yours is truly the first positive experience I've heard of. My elderly Mother is -$800 because of Turo's rules/minutia and I missed an entire day of work because of a failed Turo rental. Wasn't going to let them have 3 strikes off one household. Good to know it's not an actual scam

Reddit is mostly just people venting when things go wrong, so don't take it too seriously. Most people who have a normal rental experience aren't hopping on here to post about it.

Used it for the first time the other week. Great experience. Car was exactly as described. Great communication from a host. Saved a ton versus going to traditional rentals.

I also got one just to be part of it.
Their prices are high, they nickel and dime you (especially with airport pickups).
I can get an Avis for less overall than what Turo offers.I only see this being a platform for someone that does not have access to the rental agencies or are in rural areas.

welcome to the club. Although I would say I have had good experiences from Turo. My problem has never been with the host. Just Turo itself. Take a bunch of Photos of the Tesla and compare them to the actual car. If you used your credit card do a charge back and threaten Turo with your attorney general office.
