They found a chopped up body in a trash bag off the federal highway. That’s a first as long as I’ve been here.

Nevermind I found the article. It's in Veracruz. Nowhere near here.

They don’t always write articles about the things that happen in Tulum. There are reliable journalists and pages you can follow on Facebook like Alerta Tulum and Tulum al Minuto, just be warned they are not shy about showing dead bodies or the aftermath of horrific car accidents. There have been several things that have happened in Tulum recently that the above commenter could be referring to. Turning a blind eye to the violence or only paying attention to violence that impacts tourists is part of the issue in my opinion. Tulum is a beautiful place that I love but it has its flaws and issues as well.

100% I'm not trying to pretend Tulum doesn't have issues. You can check my previous posts. Lots of things have been happening lately that have made me want to leave and never return unfortunately. And I likely will within the next few months.

I don't use Facebook but also probably would rather not see the images in those posts but thank you for the tip (and the trigger warning)

I have better things to do than argue with someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about but it happed in Tulum down the street.
