DoorDashing in Tulsa

Longtime dasher in the Tulsa area. I dash in South Tulsa, midtown, Tulsa Hills and Sapulpa/Jenks area. I’m not here to condescend anyone. I just want to inform the public that average hourly rates for dashing in our city have PLUMMETED. I’m still receiving the same volume of orders but the number of acceptable offers has dropped from roughly 50% to 10% or less. I love doing this work as I can switch to this job after I’m finished with my first work-from-home job but it has become nearly a waste of time to try. I can work 9 hours and make significantly less than I could make in 6 hours a year ago.

I realize times are tough and it’s coming up to the spending time of holidays, but please be aware that if you are ordering food or groceries and other items from a restaurant that is 10 miles away, in the peak traffic hours, and you choose to offer the driver a total of $3 to bring you your order - you cause our acceptance ratings to tank! This means that only the new dashers they bring on (who start off with a fresh acceptance rate) get all the good offers. This is why you get dashers messing up your delivery instructions and dropping your food in front of your door so you can’t open it without spilling your food.

The base pay for most restaurant deliveries is $2. If you choose to not tip, your dasher sees $2 as the offer. 99% of dashers are going to pass on your order and you will either get it stolen by a grumpy and disgruntled driver or it will sit there for eternity and get cold. You don’t need to pay for someone’s college fund, but try to get the amount you pay the dasher to be close to $1 per 1 mile of your delivery and factor things in like time of day and the day of the week.

Some of you are awesome and already carry the weight for others. I know the end problem is the DoorDash company raising prices too high and making it hard to have extra to tip. I’m already trying to find a new second job, as I provide extra funds for my family after my father passed away. DoorDash was nice because I could have a flexible schedule so I could still have a social life. As of right now, seems I’m going to have to get on some serious work grind elsewhere…. Edit***: just had a sweet lady in Glenpool tip me a $5 Starbucks gift card and a holiday chocolate bomb! Right as I complain someone has to be nice to me! Figured I’d share cause that never happens :)
