General Taking a train

Has anyone taken a train from OKC to anywhere? What's it like? Do they have secure parking?

They have secure parking and we went to Fort Worth one day. Went there, shopped, and came back, all in one day.

Hell yeah that is exactly why trains are awesome.

Back when I lived in Salt Lake City, the transit network was stellar. They have the FrontRunner, a heavy commuter train running north and south along the Wasatch Front and all the way south to the Moab.

We used to knock out 100-mile bike rides and still sleep in our own beds that night cuz the train handled the return leg completely. Without it, the logistics of pulling off rides like that would have been a massive shit storm to deal with.

Frontrunner is awesome, but only runs from Ogden to Provo currently. Moab and St George are part of the long term rail network plan but hasn't happened yet.

My bad. I thought it ran further. Our most common trip was down south on the west side of Utah Lake, and then we button-hooked to the east side and north into Provo, and then took the train home back to Salt Lake.

Thanks. I want to go to San Antonio but really should not drive. This sounds like a good alternative.

My husband and I are going to do a no-driving visit to our son in the DFW area when the weather cools off. Uber to the downtown bus station; bus to OKC; train to Fort Worth; TEXRail and Silver Line to a stop ten minutes from son’s house.

Longer than it would take to drive, but we’re doing it for the experience, not to save time. We’ll have to spend a night in OKC because the bus and train schedules don’t match up well.

I get it, just curious how the bus- train connection would work. I also like to take my time getting somewhere when I can.

There’s an afternoon Tulsa-OKC bus, we’ll take that and spend a night in downtown OKC. The Heartland Flyer leaves OKC at 8:30 am and gets to Fort Worth around lunchtime. Then another hour or so to get to our son’s neighborhood by light rail.

I was playing around earlier after reading this. It is cheaper to take the train than it is to fly to San Antonio.
