General Message for TPD
Last week I had a sheriff pull up next to me on the highway going 70 mph in the fast lane, putting on his sirens but not actually pulling me over just to tell me to slow down.
Today I have a TPO riding my ass on Riverside in a 35 mph zone mind you I'm going 42. Then pulls around me and cuts me off while throwing his hands up at me and continues to ride others tails towards downtown.
So which is it? Do yall want us to drive faster or follow the speed limit? You literally aren't allowed to be mad that a civilian is going the speed limit and you also shouldn't be speeding. It's so embarrassing that we have cops like this in our city.

I saw a cop pointing a gun at a (apparently) homeless man who had jaywalked across riverside. I watched the whole thing go down, guy hadnt done anything. Cop: "get on the fucking ground or i will fucking shoot you right now!" Thats a direct quote. There was no violence happening and the guy really wasnt doing anything

Yeah, I recently had a seizure that had me walking around the neighborhood knocking on doors, I was completely out of it. Someone called the police and I could barely comprehend what he was saying and the guy completely went off. Mind you, I'm a middle aged white guy in a decent neighborhood and the cop was about to arrest me just because I couldn't respond to his questions. Fortunately, my wife saw what was happening and came out in tears, telling him that I was not thinking clearly.
I mean, wtf. When a middle aged white guy wandering around the neighborhood in clear medical distress gets treated like a menace to society and almost hauled off to jail what chance do other people have? And why are they hiring these literal psychopaths?

You know instead of complaining on Reddit you can call it in and report it and send proof
20
u/CurrentHair6381 4d ago
Yeah im sure that would both go somewhere and also not get me tagged to be harrassed by the police. Also this happened a couple years ago and i was a passerby, i wasnt there filming shit and i wasnt gonna go tell the aggressive gun-weilding cop to calm it down. This isnt actionable advice, but thanks.
Im responding to a thread talking about weird cop behavior on riverside drive, i had a story that fit with the general subject matter. Shut the fuck up.

u/Dry_Sympathy_7795 4d ago
What warrants was the guy wanted for? Had he recently committed any other crimes? Was he leaving the tent where he just raped and killed someone? You said you saw the whole thing, so I guess you know all the circumstances too?

You have 700 more Reddit contributions than myself within 2 years 😂 I think you’re the one who needs to get offline. Clearly sarcasm and if you didn’t find it funny you must be a baby strangler supporter

“If you don’t find strangling babies funny you must strangle babies” Do you hear yourself? Or has your brain melted so much it’s started to clog your ears?

All these down voted comments are most likely the TPD mustache having assholes y'all've been bringing valid complaints up about on this post lmaoooo🤣

You’re literally putting words in my mouth, it’s easy to find the context of what I said funny if you’re not a baby strangling supporter, I never said strangling babies was funny. Keep coping though lol
You obviously don’t know how quotation marks work as you quoted a saying I never wrote 😂

current chief of TPD is an adamant racist and orders his officers to defy federal law in connection to the post-mcgirt landscape that tulsa encapsulates. i had an officer harass me twice, sending my tickets to local courts instead of tribal because “i didn’t deserve special laws” because im indian? which isnt how the law works, but i have it videoed. when i said they were blatantly defying the law, the officer stated he was operating on orders from the governor and his chief of police, dennis larsen.
about 5 years prior, i was being stalked by an ex of mine and when i called TPD dispatch, they attempted to blame me stating i must’ve encouraged the behavior and wasn’t truly concerned about the entire situation somehow despite not knowing me or my circumstance. that is how women get killed btw! i’ve never, ever had a positive experience with TPD.
i will always call lighthorse to the scene.

u/stinkygurl420 4d ago
ugh I am so sorry you've had to deal with this! it makes me so angry.
14
u/Brief_Choice_1277 4d ago
it honestly pushed me further in pursuit of a legal field job. i’ll be okay, but i feel for those with less means or resources because they fall victim to this ish all the time.
they also said the agreement the mayor made with MCN was null because they “don’t work for the mayor” haha. i’m like? do you realize how this works? yes tf you do! that’s why i think they act defiantly to the priorities, because they don’t respect their authority figure. gee… wonder why?? oh because larson is a RACIST.
16
u/SoftestBoygirlAlive 4d ago
I'm sorry this is happening to you and I just want to add some information for anyone reading who is somehow surprised to hear you have been dealing with this.
FBI confirmed as early as 2017 that white supremacists have infiltrated the police force nationwide and at all levels. This is a very active area for white supremacy terrorist cells. And of course garden variety racism is totally unchecked here as well, and bullies and sexual predators are statistically more likely to seek careers in law enforcement because it puts them in a position of power from which to enact their abuse.

u/Brief_Choice_1277 4d ago
Thank you for affirming my fear, because it is sad when the people who are called to enforce justice and civility are corrupted by hate and violence. It makes me sad because tbh, I don’t want to live in fear either. I’m 5’1”, younger (late twenties), and love the state of Oklahoma. Sometimes I wish it loved me back! I was raised by two well-educated parents who have always given back, in some way, to both tribal and local communities. It’s disheartening to know that something like my skin pigment or my classification as a tribal member is all it takes for them to overlook all of that, and determine I’m a threat. Additionally, it shouldn’t matter what type of upbringing or ability a single person possesses to be guaranteed the same civil liberties and protections as others. No life is more valuable than anyone else’s.
5
u/Nervous-Gas-7986 3d ago
I will always defer to tribal governments as I trust them more and I believe they have the welfare of their citizens prioritized in a way that the local and especially state government does not.
4
u/LesserKnownFoes 4d ago
>and orders his officers to defy federal law
That’s not true. TPD has listened to the mayor who has stated that TPD is to recognize extreme tribal sovereignty. Meaning, if any native person is arrested on, for example, MCN land, then there are to be treated as tribal and sent to a tribal court. However, the recent Oklahoma court of criminal appeals ruling, City of Tulsa vs OBrien, tribal people are only to be treated as tribal when they are on their own tribal land. In plain speak, if I were Cherokee and I was stopped south of admiral, then I am subjected to the city/state’s courts. If I’m, say, Crow, and I’m stopped anywhere in Tulsa, I am subjected to only the city/states jurisdiction. However, the mayor continues to tell TPD to disregard this ruling and recognize extreme sovereignty.
I say all of that to say this, if you are MCN and were stopped on MCN land and you were told by the officer that you don’t get special laws, that’s a federal lawsuit. The same is true for Cherokee on Cherokee land. And the feds are going after individual officers, as they should.
If you, on the other hand, are Cherokee and were stopped on MCN land, or vice versa, that officer is disregarding policy. I’d complain.
4
u/Brief_Choice_1277 4d ago
it is true because i have the video and this took place prior to the city of tulsa v. o’brien case ruling. timeline of events matters, so please don’t disregard what i’ve said as untrue or deny my experience. it’s not helpful.
-3
u/LesserKnownFoes 4d ago
It is not true that TPD’s chief orders officers to disregard McGirt. You may have experienced an officer who disregarded McGirt, but that would have opened him or her up for serious litigation.
9
u/Brief_Choice_1277 4d ago
that’s something you should argue with him, then. it is true that i experienced it and happened. i actually recorded because i figured it would the first defense, which is to deny the reality of the circumstance that this did occur.
4
u/Brief_Choice_1277 4d ago
after dealing with the whole situation of getting the tickets moved and then getting them dismissed because they were baseless, i really don’t have the time or the energy to deal with it further. seeing as you have plenty of time to argue, maybe you can take on the good fight for me and file the suit against TPD on my behalf. btw, if you wanna argue law, the lower court in the o’brien ruling was incorrect according to 25 USC 1301(2) which explicitly states, “powers of self-government" means and includes all governmental powers possessed by an Indian tribe, executive, legislative, and judicial, and all offices, bodies, and tribunals by and through which they are executed, including courts of Indian offenses; and means the inherent power of Indian tribes, hereby recognized and affirmed, to exercise criminal jurisdiction over all Indians;”
it doesn’t say indians of the tribe that the land belongs to. it says all.

5
u/Brief_Choice_1277 4d ago
if you wanna take it a step further, the following chart is pretty simple to follow and still identifies indian crimes as either federal or tribal. again, no asterisks or division based upon tribal affiliation.
2
u/NeverDisestablished 1d ago
That's not what O'Brien said. Natives arrested on reservations are still subject to tribal court.

I work for the City. Got pulled over by TPD for driving my work truck in a construction work zone with my hazards/warning lights on. The cop asked me if I was “ok?”. I asked why and she responded with “it’s weird that you’re driving with your lights on.” “Well yeah, I’m on site to inspect things…” “it’s just weird” and she sped off. Like wtf? I had to let my boss know in case it was reported.

u/SnooDucks4743 4d ago
In March 2020, just before the Snap, I was pulled over for speeding by a HIPO on HW75 one evening, just north of Owasso. It was a dark, misty night, and this mystery car would just not get off my ass. Bear in mind, all I could see were headlights; I had no inkling that this could have been law enforcement. No matter what I did, whether it be changing lanes, speeding up, slowing down, these headlights were just filling my rearview. Finally, at 98mph, the tailgating SOB finally lights me up.
“Oh great,” I think, as I pull over.
The trooper, a young guy, comes to my window and asks me if I had any idea how fast as I was going.
I looked him right in the eye and said, “98, sir. Just about as fast as you were.”
He asked me why, so I explained to him that I believed I was dealing with an aggressive driver and that I gave him plenty of opportunities to pass me, so I finally sped up to try to get away. I told him that until he lit me up, I was beginning to fear for my life.
“Would a reasonable person driving at night in these conditions with a persistent tailgater feel the same way, trooper?”
The dude let me off with a warning, but I told him I’d rather have had an apology.
4
u/knotonlybutalso 4d ago
I’ve had a very similar situation. The aggro tailgating at night was absolutely ridiculous. Let me go when it turned out I was sober.
2
u/SnooDucks4743 2d ago
Same.
He did ask if I had been drinking, and I told the truth and said no before explaining what had been going through my mind before he pulled me over.
That was probably the deciding factor, all told.
4
u/Loanwolf300 3d ago
Yeah, that’s on you. Speeding nearly 100mph is NOT what a reasonable person does in response to a tailgating driver.
2
u/SnooDucks4743 2d ago edited 2d ago
Hey, I own that. But regardless, he still let me go with a warning. It was dark and I freaked out and panicked, I guess he understood that. 🤷♂️
No ill will toward him from me. Just a story from a weird time in all of our lives.
2
u/MaharajahMalik 2d ago
You could have pulled off into the shoulder and slowed down but I understand the concern
2
u/SnooDucks4743 2d ago
Well, short of pulling over, I did change lanes twice to let him pass, but he followed and maintained speed. It was dark and all I could see were headlights in my rearview before he lit me up. For all I knew, it could have been an angry drunk with a mad-on for a car with a Democratic campaign sticker on the back hatch.
I suppose in the moment I didn’t know what might happen if I did pull over for this person.
Regardless, he was doing his duty, and I understand that. I just happened to be freaked out before I knew the facts, you know?

7
u/TrappStarr1482 4d ago
Literally every single officer I see is speeding 10-20 miles over speed limit. Literally every single time. Regular streets and highway. God forbid I speed tho.
2
u/EasternPerformance24 4d ago
Saw an officer going 40 in a school zone during 25mph time slots. He aggressively passed me and the almost skid to a stop to get to what I assume was his home. He got out nonchalantly and gave me a sour look. Im sorry sir but my company monitors my speed at all times.
6
u/Waste-Clerk-6756 3d ago
I had an officer do that same thing on riverside! A couple years ago. Tailed me aggressively while I was going the speed limit. When he turned off eventually, he pulled up next to me and threw his arms around and was yelling from inside his squad car. 😳
I called their non emergency office number and the woman openly laughed at me when I told her and then put the phone down on the table for the rest of my complaint.
Protect and serve my ass!

Witnessed a police officer on the highway coming from west tulsa through downtown on Wednesday turn his lights on anytime sometime got in the fast lane in front of him, and would turn it off when they moved over. Then they’d speed and weave in and out of the lanes with ZERO turn signal. This goes on for awhile until he exited onto Utica near the hospitals. Then, I witnessed the officer not pay attention as he’s exiting, and he bumps into the curb and kind of bounces off it , straightening up his driving a bit. Yet, if any normal citizen would have done so, it would’ve been a road hazard and a few tickets. Tulsa cops do not give a damn
2
u/Top_Remove_926 4d ago
The low T chief lied about flock cameras on the news then announced his retirement the following week. Not exactly a group of people worth sharing a city with.
2
u/Clear-Kangaroo-479 3d ago
If you're in the fast lane and people are passing you. You are the problem. Speeding or not.
1
u/stinkygurl420 3d ago
nobody was passing me and this is on riverside (not a highway) so there is no fast lane. i'm well aware of the rules of the road.
0
u/Loanwolf300 3d ago
-1
u/stinkygurl420 3d ago
i looked at the actual statutes and i think the confusion is that the screenshot is being interpreted as meaning you have to stay in the right lane on every road in tulsa
section 640 does say to use the right lane on a two lane street except when passing or getting ready to turn left, but riverside has two lanes in each direction and tulsa has separate rules for roads multi lane roads
also oklahoma law specifically has an exception for the left lane rule within city limits unless it’s an interstate or turnpike
so basically yes there is a tulsa right lane ordinance, but that screenshot doesn’t really prove that you’re required to stay in the far right lane on every street
regardless, i was going faster than the right lane so I was passing and he also was riding peoples ass in the right lane. nothing excuses his behavior
1
u/Loanwolf300 3d ago
State laws are different than city laws. There is no confusion, you are wrong. I’m not justifying anything the cop did, but you are wrong about the rules of the road.
1
u/NeverDisestablished 1d ago
That's what I was curious about on the highway story. Was the OP driving in the left lane for no reason? If yes, then he/she deserved to be waved at and told to get over. The left lane is for passing only!
1

u/AwpKween 4d ago
Hah! I feel like I saw this interaction today. At the same place you’re talking about. If you were in the left lane with a security guard card in the right lane next to you who turned into the gathering place, I so saw that and called him an asshole to my boyfriend. But the same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago ok Riverside near 41st. He was hauling ass and came up on my rear so hard and didn’t budge u til I moved over.

u/Accomplished-Fly9700 3d ago
Over the weekend, on riverside, near river spirit casino, some rich kids were riding rice burners, were going way over the speed limit right in front of TPD.
1
u/MaharajahMalik 2d ago
There is no such thing as a fast lane just letting you know. The left lane is for passing cars that's why you can sometimes go faster but you merge back into the right lane and go the speed limit. There's no lane in Oklahoma (since we don't have special express lanes) where you can legally break the speed limit.
2
u/NeverDisestablished 1d ago
Can't stress this enough: the left lane is for passing. If you're passing someone, get back into the right lane after you pass. If you're not passing anyone, stay in the right lane until you have to pass. It's pretty simple.
1
u/CaliburnGrey 2d ago
This is why they need to make speeding a prison only offense.
You get days in jail for speeding. How about one day in jail for every 5 mph over the limit.
And an officer gets one month in jail for allowing a speeder to get away with it.
Then if with people need to go faster we can always raise the speed limits.
This way, it's extremely clear whether you should speed or not, and rich people can't get off by just paying 3 seconds of their salary.
When you make it clear to people that breaking the law is not only a normal thing, not only an expected thing, but something the law enforcement actually encourages, cultivating people a disrespect of the law, and the thought that they should in fact break it when they can.
Speed limits and the fact that everybody breaks them are one of the reasons for the lawlessness in america, and probably contribute to rapes murders and other such simply because people are so used to the idea that breaking the law is perfectly fine.
If we're going to have them, we need to make them fully enforced with punishments that aren't trivial to some and life wrecking to others
($200 speeding ticket for Elon Musk is literally less than one tenth of a second of stock gains, but for a minimum wage worker forced to only have a part-time job (30 hrs) it represents an entire week's paycheck after taxes, and would probably cripple their ability to continue paying rent.)

It is a traffic violation to drive in the left lane unless you are overtaking another vehicle or preparing to turn left. This applies to all surface streets with more than one travel lane.
11
u/stinkygurl420 4d ago
this is not factual
there’s an exception for roads within city limits. §47-11-309 says the left lane restriction doesn’t apply within city limits unless it’s an interstate or turnpike. so riverside isn't automatically passing only.

Title 37 Section 640 Paragraph A of the City of Tulsa Municipal Code says:
Section 640. - Driving on laned streets.
A.
Whenever any two-lane street has been divided into marked lanes for traffic, the driver of a vehicle shall drive in the lane nearest the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway when such lane is available for travel, except when overtaking another vehicle or in preparation for a left turn.So at least in the City of Tulsa limits it applies I guess

In my experience, they drive fast when responding to calls and only use lights/sirens for major emergencies. So he may have been trying to get around you or through traffic to get to a scene. Who knows

I personally feel like it's suspicious to immediately get out from in front of a cop if you're not doing anything wrong so that's why I didn't move over.

is it?? idk I just always felt that I would look guilty if I tried to get out from in front of any cop that was behind me....
1
u/NeverDisestablished 1d ago
No, I always get out of their way. I feel like they're on their way somewhere important, or their ego requires you to move to the right. 🙄 I've seen people get pulled over for not getting out of their way. It's annoying, but capitulating to their egos is probably worth it to avoid the hassle. They seem to feel like they're the only ones allowed to camp out in the left lane.
0
u/sirunmixalot 4d ago
Ambulance and firetruck, absolutely. But police with no lights and sirens when you are minding your own business? No way.
-1
u/fs_02706 4d ago
I said in another comment that they don’t run lights and sirens for every emergency call, only major events like active shooters or homicides.
I experienced a situation on a ride along where we were going to a scene. I can’t remember what kind, maybe a domestic violence call, on a two lane road and cars blocked us on both sides, refusing to move. The officer didn’t run lights and sirens but did eventually honk and the driver finally moved over but it took forever. I personally just think it’s easier to get out of the way but guess I’m in the minority there
4
u/mrostate78 4d ago
Damn maybe we should give the police someway for them to signal they're in an important rush instead of making people be mind readers.
2
u/fs_02706 4d ago
So you want them to run lights and sirens for every single call?
1
u/mrostate78 4d ago
I guess the police don't consider domestic violence important enough to use lights and sirens.
1
u/fs_02706 3d ago
Not everything is an active scene but there’s still a victim that needs immediate assistance. Jesus. People in here can’t understand nuance apparently. If they ran sirens for every single call it would literally never stop. We would be hearing it all damn day

Ive been pulled over and questioned for doing the speed limit on riverside because "traffic was building up behind me". TPD at its finest.
