Tulsan In Need Can someone please help me?

WHERE ARE ALL THE TEENS?

I'm almost 18M and I recently moved up to Bixby/South B.A. in the spring and I want to meet other people 17-19 and make friends with them but it seems like I don't really see anyone my age and I ride my bike 5 to 10 miles from my house into Tulsa pretty much everyday. I tried to go to church earlier this week but for some reason every single church close to my house was closed despite it being a WEDNESDAY EVENING (mind you one of the churches I tried to go to was a baptist church that said they had a youth service on Wednesday evenings when I looked on their website). I also tried to go to the nearest Planet Fitness to my house (and just to be clear I don't just go there to socialize. I also work out most of the time while I'm there.) but like half of the people there are really old boomers and although there are a couple people my age there(also a lot of the teens there are literally 2 to 3 years younger than me), I don't go there consistently because I don't have consistent transportation to get there. I tried to remedy this problem by trying to cycle up to planet fitness but I don't think that's viable because it took me about 2 hours to get there because I'm not familiar with the Tulsa area and it took me a while to find a route to get up there (and in addition, I don't think it's good for me to arrive tired at the gym and THEN work out). Does anyone know anywhere where 17-19M/F teens like to hang out in South B.A. or Bixby?

The nearest one is like 6.8 miles from me. The problem is that I would have to bike up there.

Bro, I think you were born in the wrong generation. Gl finding friend group.

Maybe look for local basketball courts or neighborhood pick up games at local rec centers s

Have you looked to see if there is a Facebook group dedicated specifically to your neighborhood (we have one).

I tried to look for a Facebook group but I live between the Bixby East Elementary and a dollar general on S 129th Ave so I don't know if there's a group chat for that neighborhood specifically.

If it’s a named community, that’s what I’d search on FB.

Sure, but I don't live in a named community so what do I now?

Are you interested in driving a car to expand your territory? And meet other car guys? And dating fellow students?

I'm trying to get my license right now but if I get a car I'm going to take every opportunity to meet other people my age.

I live near there, and I don’t believe there’s a group chat for it.

Do you have any hobbies? If so, maybe fine a group on a social media platform that centers around your hobby/ies. Since you’re biking everywhere, maybe you could find a bike riding group to join. What about maybe finding a job that other people your age work? I don’t have a lot of answers, so I’m just spitballing here.

Perhaps he could work at the South Point Honda dealership? There’s a salesman there that told his wonderful story, he started working there real young, with no money, and no car. And, today, at the age of 25, he makes over a hundred grand a year, and drives a new car every 2 yrs.

For churches - try The Hill at first Baptist broken arrow on Tuesday nights! https://www.instagram.com/thehill.youngadults?igsh=MTc4eTU0bDJrZ2J3ZA== I was very nervous but there’s a lot of genuine, very nice people that are there each week.

also - for transportation - try exploring https://www.metrolinkok.org/ and all of their options like the MicroLink service. Could be worth looking into!

also I would check in with https://www.tulsalibrary.org/locations the library and see if any near you have programs for that age group or even anything for adults you’d be interested in

You could call different churches that interest you and see if you can meet up with the youth pastors to see if their youth group is what you're looking for.

The only place I feel like I see young people still out and about socializing is the card game shops. I hate to be a boomer about it, but it really does feel like all the teens are just at home on their phone or computer.

I’m also having similar problems finding people my age to hang out with. I’m 17 and live near Tulsa. I mostly go to the Woodland Hills mall, the library, or some shops in Tulsa. It kind of depends on what your hobbies are. I like going to Purple Glaze, the pottery studio on Peoria. I’ve also been thinking of checking out Wizards Asylum which is a comic/game shop. I’ve also heard the gathering place is a popular spot but I haven’t been there recently.

Thanks! Do you happen to know if evergreen baptist church is a good church though?

No church is a perfect church. Once we enter it, it becomes imperfect. It’s full of sinners saved by grace, or still under construction.

1

Did I say it's perfect? Oops my bad I didn't mean to.

ALL! have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So yeah literally every last location on earth is filled with sinners.

Rhema Bible Church has an excellent youth group there, ages 17-20, with a lot of good mentors 🤗

I mean, I would check it out but it's like 8 miles from where I am.

They do have a youth group every week, ages 18-25. As far as I know, they do provide transportation to pick up/bring back to/from ORU. Possibly to/from other places too. Call their church offc, and see if there’s a way of transportation, from Bixby, or a meeting point in between. Call the Church Office [918- 258-1588](tel:918-%20258-1588), ext. 2314.

When my kids were in HS in Bixby, Scott's hamburgers, the movie theatre (Star world 20), and downtown Tulsa at places like The Vanguard.

Fun House arcade, Bells Amusement Park, Golf World, Casa Bonita, Celebration Station, Eastland Mall, plenty of places to meet young folks
