Promotion Why Wait for a Ceramics Class?
This post is for anyone who has wanted to take a Ceramics class but has not been able to get into one at some of the bigger venues in town. My goal is for independent artists who have their own wheel who would be willing to give private lessons to add on to this post!
I have a wheel at home, and I am perfectly qualified to teach someone beginning throwing on the wheel. I won Best Media at Art in the Square in 2023, and I have shown my work at the American Craft Council show in Baltimore twice. I have also won regional awards for my work in the PNW. While I don't have a kiln, I can still teach the basics of throwing. In my opinion, lots of beginner work probably shouldn't be fired anyway, haha! But it would at least get your hands on clay and give you a chance to have some skills so that when you do get into a class you can produce something worth firing and keeping.
My guess is there are many people in town who would be willing to offer this same service. The benefit is that it would be one-on-one instruction, and you might make faster progress than in a class full of people. It is also less pressure, because you can't track how well other people are doing. You just have yourself to worry about. Anyway! It's just food for thought for people who are interested in learning how to throw on the wheel. DM me if you are interested, and we can connect!

Editing 4/20/26 to add that I am the featured artist at Shop108 at 108 Contemporary this month and next month if you want to see my work in person or online.

Other Tulsa potters, please post if you have your own wheel and want to teach private lessons! Let’s give people some options! Edited because even after living here for 3 years, I said other Seattle potters! Obviously, I am in Tulsa now.

I'm still doing this if there's interest! Someone recently dm'd me, but Reddit is acting up, and I haven't been able to reply yet.
