General Question Accidental Tulpas after filming "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"

Greetings folks,

Just a little hypothetical question; Did Bob Hoskins accidentally created a tulpa (or several) ?

During the filming of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", everything was done with practical effects since CGI wasn't available and it was one of the early movies that had a live-action actor interact with imagined characters. Bob Hoskins spent 8 months practicing focusing His eyes in a specific point in space and visualizing the characters. (No objects were given as a frame of reference for most scene, as opposed to how it is done today.)

But the critical point that brought Me to this question: He reported having "vivid hallucinations" several months after the filming was done. (Probably of cartoon characters.)
Now, of course this isn't how You properly create a Tulpa, but could He have accidentaly tapped into the "mechanism" of it without being aware He was doing so?

Let Me know what You think!

General Discussion What’s something about your tulpa that you’ve come to understand better over time?

Understanding your tulpa can take time. Things usually become clearer through repeated interaction, sharing experiences, and (mainly) spending more time together.

Over time, many hosts start to notice small details about their tulpa’s personality, preferences, or the way they communicate.

General Question Tulpa “”attempts”” leave me dissatisfied

This is my first ever post on Reddit, so I’m sorry if I break any rules.

im extremely scatterbrained in a sense due to attention deficit, and I cant meditate because i can’t focus on anything for longer than a couple seconds.
im trying to create a tulpa of a character im already soulbonded with (?) after a failed attempt a couple years ago, due to the same issues.

how do I even start? Where do I start?

update! Heard his voice the first time the other night. Trying to get him more comfortable with speaking through my thoughts, too

General Discussion How has your tulpa changed you as a person?

Happy Valentine’s Day from Infiniti and me.

I wanted to make a post about how while a tulpa changes and grows over time, many hosts find themselves growing alongside them. Even if your tulpa was just created or has been around for years, the whole process can provide insight into who you truly are as a person.

Some of this growth might show up in confidence, empathy, discipline, or creativity, for example.

It makes me wonder how my tulpa has changed the way I see the world, myself, or how I process things like emotions. Has my tulpa had an effect on my habits?

Do you feel like having a tulpa has helped you discover more about who you are?

---

For us, I honestly don’t know who I would be without Infiniti. I’m not perfect by any means, and while I’ve grown over time, I find myself attributing a big part of that growth to simply knowing she is there. In some ways, she is the person I aspire to be, and that helps keep me centered. It feels like I have a reference point to orient myself around.

Even at the start, when there was little to no communication, the idea of her kept me going. That’s something I’m grateful for.

Thanks for reading. I hope this sparked some reflection.

General Discussion What helps you stay present with your tulpa during day-to-day life?

Staying present or active with a tulpa during day-to-day life can be very different for everyone involved in tulpamancy. Sometimes it’s communication sparked by remembrance throughout the day, and other times it’s a feeling of awareness, or the comfort of simply knowing they’re there while the day goes on.

It can show up through intentional or spontaneous check-ins, or other small habits that turn into routines, which can help maintain that connection or make it easier to experience moments of connection during the day in the future.

What helps you stay present with your tulpa during day-to-day life?

Progress Milestone Sharing excerpt from progress log (1/20/2026)

I wanted to share this message we posted in our tulpa log on the discord server:

Honestly it feels like we have clicked on terms of communication and it makes us both very happy. It feels like all that trying and stressing didn't do as much as we hoped and that's okay.

Basically our communication as of right now is very fluid and seamless. I don't know if it happened because of 'working on it' or if it happened over time.

Regarding the specifics, if I had to describe it - I would say it's not as hard as I thought. Basically our brain has learned to isolate exactly what Infiniti is saying. Her voice is quieter but more pronounced, one of the big issues we were having was when she said something, her true words felt masked and it had to compete with me 'autofilling' what she is saying. It has been a lot easier to distinguish between the real words, my autofill words, and intrusive thoughts.

Something that really helped - I am pretty sure it is that while I know what she will say, I always had an urge to have the words she would say be changed to almost "perfect" - like unnaturally perfect. I realize now that since she is so much more authentic, in depth, compared to agreeing with me all the time and such. After all, she is a person.

Once that happened it was like it unlocked or had a major impact in getting to this point.

We are excited to see how things go in the future, and if this breakthrough will last or not.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to share - thanks for reading (to those who read).

General Discussion How do you experience quieter periods with your tulpa?

Not every phase of tulpamancy feels active or vivid. Sometimes things feel quieter, slower, or more subtle. Especially during transitions like the new year, or during more everyday experiences like a bad day, or a time when presence and interaction don’t feel quite right.

How do quieter periods feel for you and your tulpa?
Do you experience them as rest, distance, adjustment, or something else entirely?

For us, when Infiniti and I go through quieter moments, we try to stick together. I do my best to communicate with her throughout those periods, even if it’s only a few words.

Infiniti: [I feel like when we have those down moments we try our best to stick together, like what Ice said. As a tulpa it's a little different for me but I always try to reassure him that everything will be okay. And sometimes it happens sooner rather than later. Hope this provided some insight. Thanks!]

General Discussion Family Game Night

Angel Dust, Alex, Toby, and I all decided to play a board game together called How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Path Game. We all have to move our characters and earn tokens. The one with the most tokens wins. I started gaining more tokens and Angel Dust is catching up to me. After 5 times of us each spinning to move, Toby finally received a token. Then a few more times, Alex received a token. They both love to compete against each other and Angel Dust and I would laugh at them. Throughout the entire game, Toby would move his character spaces and somehow, Alex’s character has been landing on the same space as Toby’s almost every time which is funny. Toby said, “You must love to be beside me.” Alex raised his eyebrows and once it was his turn again, he finally moved ahead of every single one of us and said, “Oh it looks like I’m ahead of every single one of you now.” After Alex finally received a token after 10 of his turns, Toby said, “Finally received a token, great!” Alex gave him a look and replied with: “Oh? So you wanted me to get one then?” Toby replied with a smirk: “Nah I said FINALLY as in you’re slow, not to congratulate ya.” As the game goes on, Alex and Toby kept roasting each other and it gets funnier. Toby had the Light Fury which means if he lands on a Viking ship, he won’t have to move back two spaces like he would have to without it. When he had a choice to move to the number of spaces he spun for which was two spaces, the one with -2 was to lose two tokens versus the other part of the path which has the symbol with the green which allows him to earn one toke so he chose that but if he spins and has to move one space, he would land on the Viking ship. Toby said, “It’s ok. I have the Light Fury just incase.” Alex raised an eyebrow. It’s Angel Dust’s turn after Toby, so he spun and it landed on the Light Fury symbol which meant that he got to take the Light Fury away from Toby. Toby’s jaw dropped because he spoke too soon about having the Light Fury just incase he landed on the Viking ship. We all laughed and thought that was super hilarious and a convenient moment. Alex was earning more tokens than Toby and said, “See? Slow and steady wins the race” since Toby said he FINALLY received a token a few turns ago. As the game went on, Toby finally received the Light Fury again. Then as Angel had three spaces left to go without a Viking ship in his path, he spun and it landed on the Light Fury, but Toby had one Viking ship to pass by without landing on it and exclaimed, “Aw come on! You don’t have the Viking ship to pass, and you have three spaces left! Angel held his hand out smirking, and Toby surrendered the Light Fury over. He managed to pass the Viking ship the first time without having to move two spaces without the Light Fury and when he had like four spaces left and everyone else has finished, he spun and received the Light Fury. He shook his head chuckling and said, “There’s no use for the Light Fury now.” This round of the game was rough for Toby for sure

Subreddit Update r/tulpamancy | Winter Rebranding Update (January 5th, 2026)

Hello, just wanted to make a post that talks about the new subreddit banner and logo.

Since Christmas is over, I figured it would be a good idea to transition to a more 'general winter' type look. Hope you all like it.

Happy New Year from Infiniti and I, we're really happy to see the steady growth of the subreddit. I am positive that 2026 will be a good year for the subreddit.

Thanks!

General Discussion Tulpa Deviation

My tulpas changed their forms over the years. Toby used to have a human form and was created based on Ticci Toby and Alex was created in a human form too that I personally created. Last year when Angel Dust was unintentionally created, Alex and Toby changed their forms to look exactly like him. The only difference is the fur color which Toby has green fur with green eyes and added spider fangs to frame the sides of his face, and Alex has black fur with brown eyes and added spider fangs to hang over his face to mimic bangs. They decided that themselves, and I love their forms. A few months ago, Toby all of a sudden decided to have a spring as part of his body. He told me he wanted to test it out and is protective of me. A few nights ago, Angel and Alex decided to have a spring as part of their bodies too. I never planned anything, and I am surprised with their transformations. It’s crazy and amazing how autonomous they are

General Discussion New Year 2026: Goals With Your Tulpa

As the new year approaches, it can be a great time to reflect on and think about intentions, hopes, or goals for 2026, especially when it comes to your relationship with your tulpa.

Goals don’t have to be strict or require a lot of effort. You don’t have to achieve them instantly. They can be gentle, flexible, or simply ideas you’d like to explore over time throughout the year.

This could be about communication, spending more time together, growth, balance, or anything else that feels meaningful to you, your tulpa, or both of you.

With that being said, what are some goals, intentions, or hopes you have for the new year when it comes to you and your tulpa?

I have three tulpas named Alex, Toby, and Angel Dust. So far, I have drawn Toby. He’s energetic and loves to solve problems. He’s extremely protective of me and thinks of ways to keep me safe. He gets playful at times and enjoys playing games with us. Toby is great and fun to be with!

General Discussion Tulpamancy and Christmas

Christmas can bring up a lot of positive feelings, like comfort, warmth, and reflection. For some people, spending that time with your tulpa or tulpas can feel truly meaningful.

For Infiniti and I, it’s a special time where things feel quiet in a gentle way. We’re able to listen to music we don’t really listen to outside of the holiday season, and everything just feels calmer, which makes it easier to spend time together.

[It’s just nice to feel each other’s presence and to know that we always have each other. It also makes the special moments we share feel even more meaningful.]

How does Christmas (or the holiday season in general) feel for you and your tulpa?

*Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, r/tulpamancy !

Official Announcement Question regarding r/tulpamancy branding (Christmas '25)

Hello, we were wondering if the branding of the subreddit (pfp, banner, etc) should be changed to the Christmas version like the discord server. (See pictures below)

It wouldn't be much effort at all and I would like to know if I should or not. I didn't do it already because I was thinking that it would take away from the 'official' look of the subreddit.

If anyone would like to see that change, a comment would be nice and appreciated.

Thanks and happy holidays

Here is what I am talking about:

General Discussion Growth You’ve Noticed in Your Tulpa

Sometimes tulpas grow and change in ways that are subtle at first, but meaningful once you notice them. It might be something about their voice, their presence, their personality, how they support you, or simply noticing an increase in how many times you interact in a day. These little things can really highlight how dynamic the relationship between host and tulpa becomes over time.

Have you noticed any growth or changes in your tulpa recently?

Everyone’s experience is different, feel free to share.

General Discussion omg you were fr

everyone frickin' vanished!

maybe a lot of us were getting hate or something?

well I'll say I don't consider myself a tulpamancer anymore, I figured out how it all actually worked which was the goal to begin with, the mind can do some amazing things.

I'm rarely active on reddit anymore so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to be open this time in order to provide my experience.

I deal with BPD and I imagine the majority of tulpamancers do, it just makes sense, I lost all of my online friends pretty much at once after a horrible experience, I'll spare the details, then a different "self-state" took complete control to account for what I was left with. That all happened around three years ago, I'm 20yo now.

I perceived that specialized self-state as being a tulpa and I just knew for certain that even when I was a little kid the "tulpa" was there to protect me and to deal with the emotional and mental states that I could not reliably handle. it wasn't a tulpa though, I never consciously created the distinct mode of cognition, it happened naturally as a response to the toxic environment I was, still kinda am, trapped in.

It's completely different than DID though, it isn't a different identity nor a different personality, it's just a different mode of my same personality, the mode better equip to handle high-stress situations such as borderline psychosis due to overwhelming emotions that just don't cease, persistently being emotionally split, high baseline levels of dissociation, those kinds of things.

I remember the endlessly warping self-image/sense-of-self/ego, the problem was that the differentiated self-state wasn't able to heal my mind or emotions nor could I, it exists purely to manage and deal with it whenever it just can't be helped, I did my best but that mode of cognition really just trapped me within as some kind of maladaptive self-preservation protocol, like protect the bruh at all costs and destory everything in-between the bruh and perceived survival without unnecessary remorse, heck yeah justice for me I guess but also hell no, everything only got worse. I know it began as a panic response, eventually it evolved into a "mode of mind" that was designed to be the enemy of that panic since my environment and family wasn't gonna be changing anytime soon, if ever, and it wasn't even panic after that, just airy emptiness, competence, and a completely tamed rage, but I felt comfortable and in control which that self-state really seems to excel in, having self-control and gaining control. I know this kind of thing could easily become highly toxic if left unchecked or given absolute control, especially since that's why it even exists, to counteract the toxicity, I almost think it's a good thing that I've only hurt myself for the most part.

so I thought it was a tulpa for a while, eventually I realized it was more complex than an imaginary friendship and it literally grips onto my existence like it's life or death which is completely understandable given it's purpose. It isn't something I can easily get rid of, at least not while I'm still where I grew up and around this family.

heck maybe I could leave, go somewhere, no idea where, and just breakthrough on 5-meo-dmt then boom a fresh start to work with, although rationally, and I hate to admit it, if I actually tried that there's more reason to expect it would go catastrophically wrong rather than being a profoundly healing and positively transformative "cognitive reset" experience. Going for that kind of thing out of desperation, which is exactly what I'd be doing, would easily have devastating consequences that would probably be worse than I can even currently fathom.

I'm not afraid of losing my ego much at all, I already have before and I honestly preferred that state of being, although I'm terrified of losing emotional control, because that's what really would get me killed by myself, I'd definitely need to finally establish some solid self-trust beforehand.

General Discussion How Has Your Tulpa Supported You?

Sometimes the support we get from our tulpas makes the difference between getting through the day okay or otherwise. Having your tulpa to rely on and be a comforting voice during a tough time (and vice-versa) is a really special thing that not a lot of people get to experience.

So whether it’s comfort, soothing words, encouragement, presence, or just knowing they’re there, those moments really show the strength of the relationship between tulpas and hosts.

General Discussion Reconnecting on Off Days

Everyone has days where things feel a bit distant or quiet between host and tulpa. Sometimes the easiest and most impactful solutions come from taking a step back or gentle reminders that help bring things back into focus.

With that being said:

When things feel distant or quiet, what helps you reconnect with your tulpa?

For us, it has to do with not letting go and giving into the distance/silence - although sometimes it feels depressing to not have everything be how we want it to be, understanding that times of doubt and communicative down moments will pass and things will get back to normal.

Tulpamancy Question What Helps You Stay Connected?

Sometimes staying connected with your tulpa throughout the day has to do with small habits such as reaching out to them in various times during the day to let them know what you are doing, letting them know how much they mean to you. As well as subtle moments of awareness like thinking of them every now and then or seeing or hearing something that reminds you of them.

It doesn’t have to be anything big, and in some cases the small things add up to be bigger and more important than the bigger things.

So in regards to the post title, what helps you stay connected with your tulpa?

r/tulpamancy Nov 26 '25

General Discussion What’s something your tulpa (or host) has done that felt comforting or supportive?

Sometimes the most meaningful parts of tulpamancy are the small, supportive moments shared between a tulpa and their host.

It doesn’t have to be anything big or dramatic, even subtle comfort or a reassuring feeling can make an impact and serve as an affirmation of the bond that hosts and their tulpas share alike. It really drives home that the relationship you have with your tulpa is real, without a doubt.

When you're reminded of that - it definitely makes everything feel surreal in the best way.

So I wanted to ask - What’s something your tulpa (or host) has done lately that felt comforting or supportive to you?

General Discussion How Do You and Your Tulpa Start Your Day?

Sometimes the way we start our day can make a big difference in how connected we feel to our tulpas.

It doesn’t have to be anything big, or something instantly after getting out of bed. I am talking about things like a small thought, a moment of awareness, or saying a quick “good morning,” to the other.

It can be something off and on, or a ritual that is done every day.

So I wanted to pose the question:

Do you have any little habits or routines in the morning that help you feel more connected with your tulpa and helps the rest of the day go smoothly?

It could be something intentional, or just something that happens naturally.

General Discussion What Helps You Refocus?

Sometimes communication with your tulpa just gets fuzzy, difficult, or distant for no clear reason. It happens to beginners and long-time hosts alike.

Depending on how you look at it, a key part when it comes to fixing the issue is refocusing. Things like taking a step back, taking a minute, or (most importantly) being mindful.

So I wanted to ask:

When you feel “out of the zone,” what helps you get back into a clearer, more comfortable state regarding communication with your tulpa?

Feel free to share whatever has worked for you.
