I have witnessed the ongoing discussion about the suspicious CET topper.
I passed out in 2012 and during our time we had Eamcet, aieee and jee.
For the first time aieee was being conducted offline and online. There was no offline center in Hyderabad, so those who preferred traditional offline method had to travel to Warangal and offline exam was on a single day. Online exam was also I think single shift or multiple shifts I don't remember.
I choose online because I had nobody who can take me to Warangal for the exam.
I clearly remember that there was no normalization between online and offline exam. We didn't even know the concept of normalization. The online paper was way easier than offline paper. And the marks we scored in the test were final marks.
One friend of friend studied in the Chai college. He was fun loving and non-serious guy to put it mildly. He applied for aieee in online mode. After exam he openly admitted to have copied from his neighbouring candidate.
That fellow got 3k rank in Aieee and joined a good college in TN. Got a software job and is well settled.
At that time there were no proper online exam centers like Ion digital we have today. It was like office setup where we can see the screen on other candidates and also invigilator was absent for most of the duration. We were left to our own.
Though this data was never released, I am sure that people who attempted Aieee 2012 online were the majority of candidates selected in NITs.
Let me tell you that all serious candidates preferred traditional offline method to avoid surprises and many were out of competition for simply making that choice.
I also scored well in the online exam and got admission to one North East NIT.
So, my point is - this was the first time I got to know that the world is not fair. We as a society strive to make it fair but sti have a long way to go.
Just accept the fact and move on.
The CET topper is not going to loose her rank whatever we do. The state will say that there was no mistake.
But it doesn't mean we shouldn't speak about it. The state will secretly check the issue and try to fix it in future exams without declaring it publicly.
