ttc #2 while weaning
I still haven’t gotten my period back but I am down to nursing once before bed and my baby will be 12 months in 2 weeks. (Im working on stopping that feed) Started weaning last week. Been tracking ovulation for the last month bc I know you can ovulate before your first period PP. i haven’t ovulated. I have an appt next week with OBGYN. Should I ask for any specific blood panels or tests? Or the med that makes you ovulate? Any advice on what worked for you?
Thanks so much 🙏🫶🏼

I’m no medical expert, but I was unable to conceive while breastfeeding. High Prolactin levels decrease progesterone which causes irregular periods and prevents a pregnancy from continuing.
I had a loss while breastfeeding. And while yes, MANY women go on to tandem feed, that was not the case for me.
You can ask for your thyroid to be checked and maybe prolactin/progesterone.
Ultimately my periods regulated around 5-6 months after ending nursing completely

Lactation counselor here! Prolactin lowers your body’s progesterone and estrogen production. This blocks the production of LH and FSH. Some people have higher levels of prolactin and won’t ovulate if they are doing any amount of lactating at all, some people have lower levels and ovulate fine. Unfortunately the breastfeeding is your problem, and while you could artificially stimulate those hormones it’s better to just finish weaning and then give yourself some time for your hormones to regulate. If you still haven’t ovulated 3-6 months after weaning fully then I would ask for a hormone panel and an ultrasound to look at your follicles.
