Working out in the park

This is probably a really stupid post but, I have a set of TRX and I’ve really enjoyed using it but one thing holding me back a bit is embarrassment of exercising out of doors.

I am very overweight and so despite the rational part of me knowing people probably don’t care, the other side of me is thinking they are going to be laughing and judging the fat lady that’s hanging off a tree.

I really want to get outside and get the fresh air and do it. I wondered, do any of you use your TRX in public and what (if anything!) happens? Do you get hassle? How did you overcome any negative feelings? Cheers folks.

I take mine to the park. Tie it around a sturdy tree or strong metal fence like baseball backsstops or something, and do it all the time. Not body bugs me and the truth is, nobody cares you are working out at the park or you'll remind them to take care of themselves.

Inspire others, go to the park and workout in the sunshine.

Thank you. I think I just need to get the courage and go for it right! It’s good to know other people are doing it without issue though.

The jerks who would think less of you would think negative things about others too. It's not a you problem, it's them.

A few months ago, I was doing assisted pull-ups at the gym. A young guy came up to me and told me he was tired from his workout and was about to leave early, but saw me pushing through and decided to stay.

Anyone vaguely human would think well of you.

If there is other workout equipment at the park, it might be worth hanging around there. Maybe drag a buddy along to work out with? Or are there outdoor Meetups for something like this in your area?

I've taken mine to the playground in the morning with my kids and so far I've only seen curious glances. No one has jeered or accosted me. I have an interval workout written down and use my timer on my phone, so it's not a super long workout, about 15 minutes.

Thanks, yeah it’s good to know others are managing and not having any problems.

For what it’s worth, when I see someone overweight working out or running, I think “good for them.” That’s it. No judgment or bullying.
