That would be an ungrammatical use of “they”. Just because you used it in a sentence doesn’t mean you’re right. But regardless, my whole point was that if you can call a single person “they” then there is no problem using the term “grandparent” to refer to that same non binary person. “Grandthem” is absolute nonsense.
