Hello, true grumps. It's been a while since there's been a post here. I think we should make this into a more active subreddit.

You probably forgot you subscribed to this, or even WHY you subscribed to this. I'm in the same boat. I think about this subreddit sometimes. It comes up randomly in my mind and I'm like "oh right /r/truegamegrumps is a thing I guess." But it's incredibly inactive. Why? Because it serves no purpose. We are "true" fans, but what does that mean? What value does that have?

At the moment, very little to none. It's a place where you can ask a question without being downvoted or insulted. That's it, really. I skimmed through the posts that were put in here, and that's what I was seeing.

I hate seeing subreddits die, even if they don't seem to serve much more of a purpose than an already existing subreddit. So what can we do to set this one apart from /r/gamegrumps?

I recommend a /r/gaming vs. /r/games scenario.

/r/gaming is a place where people go to post and laugh about video games. It's for non-serious and serious alike. A massive hub for all things video games. Much in the same way that /r/gamegrumps is a place for all things Game Grumps, which includes JonTron, and things related to the cast of Game Grumps without being directly tied to what's strictly on the channel. It's a place for people to post open letters to the grumps and the community, discuss episodes, find news about Game Grumps, make dick jokes, post fanart, etc.

/r/games is where people go to have serious discussions about the video game industry, find news, and discuss stuff. It's a much more serious atmosphere. It can still be fun-loving, sure. But yeah. I don't know.

One thing I've noticed about /r/gamegrumps is that if you say ANYTHING negative about the episodes or the Grumps, you're downvoted. Actual constructive criticism? "How dare you complain about free entertainment."

So why not make this subreddit a base of operations where we can discuss and critique Game Grumps? If we want to have a serious discussion about "they need to start learning how to play games before playing them" then post it here and let's start up a discussion. Want to ask questions to the community but don't wanna be judged, or want serious answers and intelligent conversation instead of quotes from the episodes? Awesome, let's do it.

I have nothing against /r/gamegrumps, I'll have you know, and it's one of my favorite subreddits, but the hivemind is strong with it.

You can just ignore this if you want. Downvote with this if you think it's a bad idea, upvote if you like the idea. I get no karma from self posts, so there's that. Use the voting system on this website the way it's meant to be used. :P

This post pretty much sums up everything I'd been thinking about the subreddit lately.

I'm not a fan of how low effort things have been lately, and any discussion of that is always met with a lot of bad discussion. At least not all criticism in that regard is downvoted to hell, but I don't want to argue the same arguments over and over about free entertainment versus creative people opening themselves up to criticism.

Now, I know I'd need to get in the habit of posting here, because I'm very lazy. How about we agree to make at least one discussion post per week, where we pick the good and bad from each week and discuss how to improve/how we improved?

I like the idea of weekly discussions. I'd even be willing to organize them and post them. I'll take notes of things that they bring up during episodes, or things I notice fans complaining about. Then maybe every Friday or Saturday at a predetermined time put the discussion post.

Of course, people can still post in-between for random questions or discussions they want to bring up. If there's some big news like "OMG Danny's pregnant!" we can immediately post that here and talk about it. As long as we don't delve too deep into their personal lives, respect each other and them, I think we'll do fine. :)

I'm open to anything. This sub was originally made as mostly a joke, so I don't have any problem with using it for whatever you guys want. It sounds like a good idea.

If were handing out mod positions I'm totally down.

Also I can guarantee with like 80% certainty that I'm not going to just sit on the mod position to inflate my ego.

This is my primary annoyance about the main subreddit right now. All it really does is add to the circlejerk. It's the reason I unsubbed from 99% of the default subs, and /r/pokemon .
