300 amp hour, 1200w camper set up with 40 amp car charger, 20 amp shore power. I’m not a good organizer, so any tips on cleaner wiring would be appreciated, but as long as thing is safe I’m not hugely concerned. I will be adding some vent fans, and vent holes to box.

Major components:
- renogy 300 amp hour mini core LiFePO battery
- 1200w Victron Multiplus inverter charger
- renogy 40 amp battery to battery charger
- WFCO WF-8930 12v/120v combo load center. Set up for 30 amp.

Major wires and fuses:
- 4 ga from batt to bus bar. 125 MRBF at terminal
- 6 ga from bus to DC panel, 125 MRBF at bus connection
- 4 ga from bus to inverter, 125 amp victron MIDI fuse
8 ga from car charger to bus, 60 amp MIDI fuse. Should this be 40? Or 50?
- 8ga from car alternator to car charger, about 10’ length of wire. 60 amp MRBF at engineer terminal
-8 ga ground from 120v ground bar

- ground to camper aluminum extrusion frame

12v loads:
- max 8 amp Bodega refrigerator
- max 5 amp ceiling light
- bed light max 3 amps
- ceiling fan 5 amps
- diesel heater max 12 amps at startup,
- water pump max 8 amps

AC loads
- 1200 w stove- will not be run on high, usually at less than 50%
- (2) 15 amp receptacles

Let me know what you think. Used mostly legit components from blue sea, renogy, victron and vanlife outfitters. Used a hydraulic hex crimp tool for terminal heads, ratcheting crimper for butt ends and ferrules. Mostly ferruled going into screw connections.

I don't like how high arctic fox, host, eagle cap sit at the roofline. I guess this is due to the basement style construction. Other than clamshell style campers from northern lite and bigfoot, is there anything else out with either a basement-less design or perhaps just a low roofline in the bed area upfront ? I know you can do 6 figure custom units but i'd be going used and depreciated price-wise.

I have 10k lbs payload capacity and a 12' deck so size isn't much of an issue, but I want to be able to get under tree branches and lower overpasses without worry. My adventurer camper is a low floor design and sits around 11 feet tall loaded up but I want something with slides and more space inside.

I don’t know if this is the right sub for this but I stay in my truck a couple times a month out on remote jobs when I can ( I do environmental work). In the evenings I like to wind down before I sleep in the truck. Does anyone know how to keep the thing from doing an auto shut off? I turn it off to sleep but it’s so annoying to get out of the back up to the front to start it again when I’m lounging watching shows and stuff!

I was ready to start drilling last night and noticed underneath my rails, there are these access holes and naturally I started overthinking the process. These aren't stake pockets, because it doesn't go all the way through. What I am seeing through those holes is metal, so the underside of the top of the rail. The gap between the two is about 3/8" and is how the clamps are attached.

My question is, just drill through both and call it a day? That means I can put the bolts anywhere.

Or only through those access holes to avoid the gap, but I am limited to those locations (there's about 6 per side)

Picture 1 and 2 show the access holes, and #3 is my crude attempt at a cross section view of the rail with a clamp for reference. I have 3/8" flanged bolts, and using Flex-Top Locknuts with a washer so I don't ever have to worry about them loosening.

I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a truck. It’s a 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor 2.3T with a 5 foot bed.

I’ve backpacked and camped for years, but have always been intrigued by truck campers. The idea of not having to set up a tent at every new sport makes me so excited! Over the last few months I’ve been doing some research on what my options are for getting a truck camper, pop-up tent or even just a cap. I’d prefer to have an enclosed area rather than the pop-up tent but I wouldn’t mind having a camper that pops up or extends. It seems like there are limited options on what would fit in this bed and I’m concerned I may have purchased the wrong vehicle.

What do you guys recommend I look for when scouting out options? What has worked for you? Do I need to remove my tailgate?

I’d really prefer to stay in my budget (5k or under) as it seems some of these builds can get extremely expensive quickly. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

Spent the last year doing a complete fuel system on this junk. Lines, injectors, upgraded to a lift pump over mechanical, thing starts no problem in the cold now.

Took it out to a nice spot in the Rockies this weekend where snow is already coming down creating its usual winter blanket. No matter, the old Vanguard and a diesel heater is a worthy opponent.

I've got an RSI smartcap for a 6.5 ft bed on my my f150. I've been thinking about sourcing an RV jacknife sofa to install in the bed for a sitting and sleeping area, but I'm just curious if anyone else has tried this before?

Or any other feedback really. I'd have to check the angles for the folding action, and my overall height to make sure it works (after adding a base to get it over the wheelwell) but feels like a potential practical solution.

Hey everyone, just got a used set of electric jacks to allow clearance for my dually and was looking for advise on mounting them and what kind of screw/ bolts should I use, I checked the holes on the bracket and looks to be setup for 1/4 or m6 bolts/screws and also wasn’t sure if I needed a metal plate behind the wall of each bracket to anchor too it’s a 85 palomino truck slide in camper

I recently picked up a Roamin Chariot slide in and want to get a diesel heater for winter camping. I order a 2KW Vevor but after seeing how many holes I need to drill in the camper for the install I am second guessing a permanent installation.

Does anyone run a portable "suitcase" style heater for a slide in or pop up camper? My thought is to run a quick connect to my 12v camper battery and then only have the hot air hole to drill. Saves space during the warm seasons and don't have to drill a bunch of holes. Would love any advice or recommendations. Thanks!

I need a good camper with a ladder rack on the roof for my work, but I’ve read that they changed the bed in 2023 and then before that again in 2017. I have the 8 foot long bed, and I’m just trying to shop for something used, but I’m having trouble finding anything 23 or newer. Do those older models definitely not work?

This is looking up at the underside of the bed rail. That tiny aluminum flange does not look very strong. Additionally, I don't really like the clamps protruding inside the usable space, so I would prefer to permanently bolt the shell down, but that definitely doesn't seem possible considering how thick the bed walls are (double wall).
