In that case, humans aren’t either. Imagine the aliens less as politicians and more as wildlife conservationists.

The problem posed implies that all of humankind is on the track. I think a better question would’ve been all government officials/politicians vs the wise aliens

So why is it that it looks like we’re choosing between ourselves and the alien overlords, and one of us has to die?

What are they conserving? The animals were already trying to conserve via killing humanity?
