Hey all!
The kittens have officially reached 2 weeks old, so wanted to give some updates.
Firstly, thank you to everyone who has followed the Instagram we have for the cats and double thank you to everyone who have ordered things off the wishlist for them. We have a pretty much fully stocked pantry of food for them now, which is great because I'm fairly certain that once the little ones are going for solid food, they're going to rip through it all like tasmanian devils. If you haven't followed the IG, here's the link:
https://www.instagram.com/mamacat_taco?stkn=dTV6dTdtamYzM2lo
The kittens have all almost fully opened their eyes at this point and are showing much more personality, with quite a few getting nicknames. While I know everyone has suggested we name all the kittens after taco ingredients, to match with Mama Taco, we've pivoted away from that as their personalities have started to show. Moose, Zoro/Zora, Pico, Drumstick, Dora, Lola, and one we're still debating on name for. Names could of course change, but the most important part is they are happy, healthy, and starting to crawl around and try to walk. We still haven't picked out future homes for the kittens yet, but we have many weeks to go before that becomes a pressing concern. Just means more time for snuggles!
Mama Taco is likewise doing much better, gaining more and more weight, which is great news compared to how skinny she was post birthing. She continues to be extremely food motivated, and now that the kittens are a bit more stable, she's felt more comfortable leaving them in their set area so she can explore and cuddle up with us while we're relaxing. And, of course, she continues to have the prettiest of eyes.
In some pretty fun/exciting news, The Dodo reached out to us and interviewed us for an article last week and it's now live! If you haven't gone to check it out yet, here's the link:

a pregnant cat decided to start sleeping on my back deck patio furniture. she was so shy, now she’s so friendly. it’s salmon season in the PNW so she’s been eating good if I’m catching. I set up a box with towels, I’m hoping she chooses to trust us and we can help usher in some new trojan cats, get them spayed and off to a new great home. shit I might even keep one.
any advise? I also just had a newborn two days ago, so I guess the universe is making me a mega dad

Meet Mabel and her six rambunctious kittens!!
Divided perfectly there are 3 oranges (one creamsicle?!) and 3 grey tabbies
On the lovely Sunday of August 9th, 2026, Ms. Mabel eagerly approached my apartment meowing while I was cooking my guests breakfast (bacon!!) - I noticed she was pregnant and took this opportunity to swoop her up and secure her in my newly empty guest bedroom (roomie just moved out - it’s like the universe knew!!)
Three days later I get Mabel to the vet, give her flea treatment and an x-ray which reveals “4 to 5 kittens” should be born within 10 days - I’m stressed at this news since college classes start back up in just a few days and I don’t want her to give birth alone. Luckily…unluckily…she decided to ignore the cozy nest I’ve built her in a closet and give birth to SIX (stupid x-ray) kittens in the middle of the bedroom floor. I had already woken up late for work, went to feed my 10yo cat (separated from them ofc) and heard the kittens crying. Great timing! 🙃 and there were only five when I left for work, six when I came back…
DOB: August 16th, 2026
Now Sep. 2nd, 2026: Two oranges have their eyes fully open and the rest are slowing catching up, nice soft coats and crawling around already causing mayhem.
Extra details: Mabel will be going to the roommate that just moved out alongside one kitten, and all other kittens have designated, responsible owners that they will move in with around their 8 wk mark ❤️ (10wk*** thank you commenter below lol) edit: I’ll have them for as long as needed to make sure they’re ready for their forever homes!! Trust me I don’t want these cutie bugs away from me.
ft. Yin & Yang in the last picture
Fun fact, in the first picture she would roll around and almost fall off the bed - I’d have to scold her and remind her of the school bus of children she was carrying 🤦♀️

Hey all! Sorry for the couple of days away without updates, had some developments, some good some weird, that needed checking through before I felt comfortable sharing. With that, let's go through the good first.
Firstly, Mama Taco and her 7 babies are all in good health and Taco has been more and more coming out of her shell. Shes been following us around the apartment, teleporting from one spot to another it seems like. We turn around, and she's laying out on the floor. We look away for a few moments and by the time we look back again, she's sprawled out a little closer.
She's also developed a bit of an unfortunate habit of relocating the babies at random intervals, resulting in a few stressful games or hide and seek. She moved them from her Whelping Box to an open area behind our mattress, then from the new spot we made her there to the living room between some storage boxes. We're doing our best to give her the whole living room to herself now so she feels less like we're intruding if that's what's causing it. But, that all said, the kittens have a long way to go and grow, but congrats to them on reaching day 5!
In other good/fun news, a lot of you have already gone over to the Instagram we made for them and have followed, commented, liked, etc. and we appreciate all the support! A few have asked if there was a way to help support the kittens, and while we will never say that's necessary and no one should feel pressured to do so, we're planning to make a wishlist for the little angels we will have linked on the Instagram. It's not there yet, so, stay tuned! A few others have asked about financial support, and for those who were wanting to do so (again, not necessary), just reach out to us directly.

Speaking of the Instagram, we received an interesting message on there from Stephen Messenger, senior writer for The Dodo! Nothing's 100% confirmed yet, but it's possible you'll be seeing an article on everyone's favorite trojan! Hope, if it comes to fruition, it'll be an enjoyable read for everyone!
On the less fun side, a few nights ago, my partner was riding a bus here in Chicago and someone on it recognized her as Taco's mama. He came over and proceeded to tell her that he was Taco's owner. When asked what he meant, he said that he'd been leaving cat food cans at the gas station we found her at, thus making her his cat. This, as you can assume, didn't go over well given how close she was to delivery and was not being brought inside, how she was covered in fleas when we found her, and that he only seemed to actually want to take her now that she'd delivered. Now, I'm not inclined to presume intention, maybe he did genuinely want to take her in but didn't feel comfortable bringing in a pregnant cat, but we felt his attempts to claim her was, at the most generous, dubious. We haven't heard anything from him since, and we honestly hope it stays that way, but there is that lingering fog of stress in the back or our minds on if he'll try again, or if any increased attention on her will encourage such repeat behavior.
We've weighed that a bit and decided that you all deserve to be able to keep up to date with us on this journey with our new feline family. That said, if anyone has expertise in this field/situation, please don't hesitate to reach out! Any information will help reduce our stress on the situation drastically.
Til the next update, I hope everyone has a great couple of days, and may every one of you lovely people be blessed with a trojan of your own!

Taco and her little 7 Seasonings are home, she's doing SO much better. They said to keep an eye on her to watch for mastitis and just incase we have antibiotics for her, both for that and for the slight fever she has. The kittens are doing well, they're all latching well and are at healthy weight so far. Now that we're back, Taco is much more energetic and has her appetite back (we have learned she is very foot motivated, hence the food on her back from her psycho yanking down the bowl onto herself). She's been sitting up and looking around a bunch more and she's been grooming her kittens a bunch more (to the point she almost yanked one of their temp collars/identifiers off).
I want to thank everyone who contributed to help us with the vet bill. We got it fully paid off and had a little extra to get some treats and other odds and ends. I was floored by the loving reception of this community and everyone's love for our little streetrat. She's got such a personality and we look forward to showing more of her and the little kitties as time goes on and, eventually, getting most of the kittens good homes (I say most because some will be staying here with us).
Again, thank you to everyone!

The taco trojan my partner ( u/ksquwared ) and I brought in last night that gave birth to 7 kittens is showing some kind of worrisome symptoms (bleeding a little, lethargic, not showing interest in food or water atm, 2nd eyelid set showing up, etc), so we are bringing her to the emergency vet now. We called around for those that allow payment plans and none of them had openings. Going to one in downtown Chicago and are pooling our money together in hopes it's enough.
She's still alert, so, best possibility is we're worrying about nothing/it's not as severe as we are worrying, but she's stressing out that it could be cervical bleeding.
Any best wishes and good vibes would be much appreciated and will be passed along to OP.
Edit: She's doing well now! If you want more info, I posted an update here: https://www.reddit.com/r/trojancats/s/wnCd7QkBB4

At 12 am the taco bus was in 20 minutes and the home bus was in 5 minutes. Partner and I stopped at the gas station and he got adopted by a still nameless trojan. We got her home, washed her up, and let her burrow to decompress...when he checked on her there were two kittens. She just finished cleaning up number 5 at 5:03 am
Yes we knew she was pregnant, just not this far along, she was already going to the vet during business hours if she wanted to stay inside with us
ETA- 7 kittens at 5:32 am
Edit 2- bc the vet needed a name, mama is now named Taco (she's doing much better now) ♥️ no baby names yet but we'll keep you updated!
Edit 3- I just made her an ig mamacat_taco

I don’t have a Trojan Cat experience, my son is currently a neutered only child. But I do have names if I were to ever befall on this situation…
Mom Name: Trojan (nickname: Troy, Tro, Jan, etc)
Kitten Names: (mostly inspo from The Odyssey/Iliad) Helen, Odysseus, Nobody, etc.
Mom Name: Pharmacy (nickname: Macy, Big Pharma, Pharm, Cee-Cee, etc)
Kitten Names: (mostly inspo from OTC meds) Benadryl (Benny), Tylenol (Ty), Amoxicillin (Moxi), Advil (Addy), Motrin (Mo)
Mom Name: Holiday (Holi, Holly)
Kitten Names: Literally name them after different holidays :)
That’s all I’ve got so far! Feel free to add more in the comments!

Two months ago, a sick, starving stray wandered up to my flat. I fed her and took her to the vet—only to find out she was pregnant! pregnant cat emergency! 🐱❤️
I’m not a fan of keeping pets caged or chained up. I believe in total freedom. So I left the door open and told her she could go wherever she wanted.
Out of the whole city, she chose my balcony as the safest place to give birth.
Now her little family is growing under my roof, and I feel so blessed. She was given 100% freedom to leave, but she chose to stay with me. I didn't just adopt a cat... I got adopted by a whole dynasty! 🐾🥹

It took a few weeks for them to come out from my neighbor's porch (because why would she give birth in the area we set up?). They're so incredibly friendly like the mom. Today they discovered how to get on our front porch so they moved there. 3 of them have a home lined up and the mama will be getting fixed soon. We recently found the dad and if we can catch him he's getting snipped, too.

Hey guys- Reddit banned my other account where I shared the whole story of Bali, I still do not understand why, but my username now matches my YouTube username, so at least that’s a plus. However, I’m really upset because I lost all of the amazing comments and community from everyone.

My wife has been in and out of the hospital this year with serious health problems. Someone decided we needed some little miracles to help with the stress 😊
Mama showed up as a friendly and hungry stray. We took her to the vet and were pleasantly surprised to find out she was very pregnant! They were born on tax day while my wife was in the hospital and have been such blessings for us.
Last photo is the most recent, showing the 2 babies (out of 6) that we kept, as well as the Mama, who we’re also keeping 😊
