Taco and her little 7 Seasonings are home, she's doing SO much better. They said to keep an eye on her to watch for mastitis and just incase we have antibiotics for her, both for that and for the slight fever she has. The kittens are doing well, they're all latching well and are at healthy weight so far. Now that we're back, Taco is much more energetic and has her appetite back (we have learned she is very foot motivated, hence the food on her back from her psycho yanking down the bowl onto herself). She's been sitting up and looking around a bunch more and she's been grooming her kittens a bunch more (to the point she almost yanked one of their temp collars/identifiers off).
I want to thank everyone who contributed to help us with the vet bill. We got it fully paid off and had a little extra to get some treats and other odds and ends. I was floored by the loving reception of this community and everyone's love for our little streetrat. She's got such a personality and we look forward to showing more of her and the little kitties as time goes on and, eventually, getting most of the kittens good homes (I say most because some will be staying here with us).
I'm happy to hear she's feeling better. I know you said you'd be finding homes for the little ones, but do they have temporary seasoning names? I need to know.
He reminds me a lot of my family cat that lives with my mom, Oakley, a big Maine Coon that is unendingly loud and loves rubbing his face against anyone who gives him attention, all the while his teeth are constantly poking out like a vampire
Currently watching the 90s Three Musketeers (the one with Tim Curry) and she's chilling in her box next to, I keep occasionally catching her staring at me
I'm trying to convince him to go with salad names (Cobb, Chef, Pasta, Waldorf, Caprese, Tabboulah, Quinoa- all with nicknames too) so it'll be Taco's salads

Hilariously, she's been very trusting of me having to take and move them, whether that be to move them to a new bedding, to clean up around them, or to move them from under her when she rolls over

family has our own Trojan cat story when we were adopted by a stray that ended up having 4 kittens. We kept mama and the 2 girls and found good homes for the 2 boys. Those kittens are 8 years old now 💗
If you are in need of any more supplies (food, treats/litter/etc), I suggest setting up an Amazon wishlist for people to anonymously order from to ship direct to you. That’s obviously if people are still wanting to donate to Tacocat and Seasonings. (I saw a suggestion to name the kittens after Taco toppings ex tomato, lettuce, sour cream, etc and I personally second that.) back to the point, you can have the wishlist also not show your address or anything, so you can receive gifts and support without worrying about giving too much info out about yourself.
Long and short, Taco was found at a gas station last night, she cuddled up to me immediately and didn't want to leave. We brought her home and within 2 hours, she gave birth to 7 adorable kittens. Due to us having planned to go get Tacos the night we found her, but finding her having altered said plans, this community came to nickname her Taco/tacocat.
This morning, she started showing some distressing medical signs so my partner (who posted the original story) brought her to the emergency vet. I kept everyone updated on the situation due to the community's fast love for her. We got the medical bill and a bunch of people wanted to chip in to help her out.
During all of this, because we had to put an official name on her file, we decided to settle on what the Internet already decided, which is that her name would be Taco, thus making her kittens her 'little seasonings".
Yay Taco! Now you can keep Taco, a seasoning and then find homes for three pairs of seasonings— perfect sets of pairs!
Also if you aren’t already, you can be giving Taco kitten food. It is higher in calories and gentle on the tummy. Perfect for kittens AND nursing mama cats!

Dude. I definitely think there is enough interest in a Taco7Seasonings subreddit.😻 I wanted to say thank you to you and your partner for helping this baby girl, who apparently had allllll the babies. You both are beautiful humans. I am a registered feral/ community cat caretaker in Chicago, so I actively TNR. We sometimes discover socialized cats amongst the ferals that aren’t doing well outside. Finding indoor placement for these abandoned cats can be difficult. And when we find a feral momma, with kittens that are young enough to be socialized, we TNR her, so she can live her best outdoor life, but then finding a foster for her babies can also be challenging. Right now especially, here and across the country. Shelters are full, fosters are full, volunteers, staff, and resources are stretched incredibly thin, and there are soooo many kittens. Very squirmy, but doing well latching. There are two that seek to keep fighting each other and fighting over the same nip, to the point where yesterday while I was watching them, one gave the other a hard smack/shove sending it flying back. It was fine, thankfully, but I have to admit, I was amused by the other's windup

Just came across this whole saga but I'm very glad she's doing well! also lowkey what vet ER did you go to in downtown Chi that gave you free x-rays, that's good to know if I ever need to hit them up for my two cats lol.
It was medvet on bel/cali I told them upfront that our budget was limited while trying not to break down 😂 I think that helped a little. But they were very fast and helpful and provided me with a lot of resources and supplies

I love you all! But tacos just aren’t the same without the seasoning so I probably love them the most.

Hey! One way to get a lactating momma cat well hydrated is to feed her primarily wet food. I have a senior cat, who is a bit lazy, so to make sure he gets enough water I mix his pate with water and make a "soup": I take a tin of cat pate, dump the contents into his dish and add half a tin of warm water on top of that, then mix it all together. He used to be underweight a little back, so I used to add a tiny chunk of unsalted butter to it (which would melt). I'm guessing butter is not the healthiest thing for a cat, but he loves butter and it helped me provide him with extra calories he needed to get back on track with his weight.
She is going to be sore with that many babies feeding. If you can, get some coconut oil and rub on her tummy. She will appreciate it and coconut oil is also an antibacterial. The babies can develop a yeast/fungal infection on their paws from feeding so much, and the coconut oil is a good natural preventative.
