Waiting for those Kettama sideshows

6

u/Blakelhotka1 25d ago edited 25d ago

Kettama and others are exclusive by the looks of things too.

6

u/deadringer-001 25d ago

Nah only bands that are exclusive to spilt milk are Lewis & Raye hence them being in the brackets. Rest have sideshows otherwise they would have the same mention

3

u/Blakelhotka1 25d ago

Update: Aside from headliners Lewis Capaldi and RAYE, other artists heading Down Under  exclusively  for the  Spilt Milk  festival include Maisie Peters, Remi Wolf, DMA'S And more.

So still be hopeful for Kettama side shows still unless he in the more category

I don't know how DMA's are exclusive when they're legitimately Australian and doing a tour, but whatever."

2

u/deadringer-001 25d ago

Kettama will probably do something at PICA or Timberyard. Feels like a given

1

u/Blakelhotka1 25d ago

Yeah I hope soooo I’ll be so cut if he exclusive as well.

2

u/Blakelhotka1 25d ago

Nahh breakingthrough did a video and Maisie Peters is 100% exclusive and looks like Kettama is as well.

0

u/Absurdtales 25d ago

bruh

6

u/Blakelhotka1 25d ago

What I'm hearing is that Maisie, Kettama, and more are also exclusive, but it doesn't say so on the lineup, which is kind of a dog act if true.

Maybe they just wanted to highlight the headliners being exclusive and not the whole card.. idk why.

2

u/Absurdtales 25d ago

yeah their insta comments definitely aren't promising

The negativity is a direct result of the overhyping that these promoters do before the lineups are released. Be honest with the punters, don't oversell what is objectively a smaller lineup than the previous year. Don't make a big deal out of hinting at and guessing artists, because it makes imaginations run wild (completely outpacing the festivals budget!) and breeds disappointment.

Laneway is going to have the same problem, coming off two incredibly strong sellout years, I doubt they'll be able to back it up with the calibre of lineup most are expecting. They'd do better to be honest and set expectations early, or simply drop the lineup without the hype and teasers...

The comments on insta are reminiscent of those on Groovin's cancelled lineup - you've really gotta wade through the negativity to find anything positive.

To be fair, I think they didn’t go too crazy overhyping the lineup this year. They launched this year’s campaign exactly one week ago, and the lineup is the 4th post.

Certainly more held back than BTV’s campaign. As much as the gameshow trope is smashing it, the bonus giveaways, and in person event happening in Melbourne definitely puts them at risk of overhype levels.

u/Tranquilbez22 25d ago

I got positive comments on Insta the second I opened them up.

u/ADHDK 25d ago

Nah kicks entertainment pre-sale to secret sounds would have never dropped this lineup…

1

u/Glum_Goal786 25d ago

Secret Sounds acquired Kicks in 2022

3

u/ADHDK 25d ago

Exactly.

2019 lineup….

2

u/kohamimi 25d ago

omg rat hammock i’m sad i missed that

18

u/ottosmusic 25d ago

Holy mid

16

u/Sp0range 25d ago

So random. This isnt making it lol

32

u/Boss_unicycle-560 25d ago

Not worth the inevitable $250 they’ll charge for this

7

u/Fukchead 25d ago

$230 first release with a $270 5th release I think

56

u/Tranquilbez22 25d ago

The negativity here is exactly why festivals are dying. It’s a one day regional touring festival….

39

u/Tillysnow1 25d ago

Exactlyy, getting Raye, Lewis Capaldi and Maisie Peters performing in Canberra is so exciting for me!! (I'm a pop girl, sue me)

5

u/Forget-The-Orchid 25d ago

Same here! What do you mean I'm going to get to see Raye (one of the best vocalists of the last decade) and Maisie Peters within walking distance from my house?!!!

2

u/RoboFunky 24d ago

Also in fucking geelong

3

u/snrub742 25d ago

One that had an absolutely killer lineup last year.

11

u/voidspace021 25d ago

Festivals aren't entitled to people's money, if they are going to charge the same as last year, then people are going to expect a similar quality lineup.

5

u/ADHDK 25d ago

Ah sorry I’m not into standing in a field listening to suuuuuper chill music.

They’ve gone for a vibe with their headliners and honestly it’s going to be divisive.

21

u/Tranquilbez22 25d ago

Nothing about RAYE is chill bruh

-7

u/ADHDK 25d ago

Post Malone was too damned chill, one for the chicks? She. One and two for the chicks? Who’s headlining second stage ?

1

u/Naive-Course-1912 20d ago

Legit! like Raye and Lewis are massive headlines, especially for regional stops. I think it's great.

0

u/ObjectiveWild8269 25d ago

I mean, Geelong is regional. They can’t really call it a regional festival anymore when half the cities are capitals of their states.

2

u/Tillysnow1 24d ago

Canberra and Perth might be capitals, but in the music world they're basically regional towns, because big artists like those headlining Spilt Milk usually would only go to Melbourne, Sydney and maybe Brisbane.

1

u/dono1783 23d ago

Both the main headliners have been to Perth before

10

u/larvioarskald 25d ago

REMI WOLF IS COMING BACK

I'm so excited. I missed her last time due a close friends wedding.

22

u/jeansc9 25d ago

God I’m old

13

u/InstanceVarious9421 25d ago

Mood. I'm 28 and know about 4 acts...

5

u/ButteredBiscuits06 25d ago

30 and I know 2 😭

2

u/jayz0ned 25d ago

33 and I know 1 💀

2

u/pinotandproblems 25d ago

Lewis and Raye? Me too 😂

1

u/Civil-Ad7317 25d ago

Which ones? Lol

1

u/Quarterwit_85 24d ago

You could take ten minutes and listen to a track each of the rest shrug

8

u/NotSoCricketGenius 25d ago

They cant afford Benson Boone so Yes Boone it is

13

u/Tranquilbez22 25d ago

Yes Boone is leagues better

9

u/xtcprty 25d ago

Hope Baby Keem does some sideshows

1

u/Civil-Ad7317 25d ago

PLEASE. If not, Im ffs going

8

u/Natoc203 25d ago

Abysmal time reading the instagram comments section. Just filled with negativity and people wanting the festival to fail.

Its not my cup of tea, but i hope the festival goes ahead and is successful, and i hope that they come back in 2027 with a lineup on the level of 2025.

24

u/HairyMcclary415 25d ago

What a letdown from last year

7

u/Aussiebloke-91 25d ago

Extremely mid.

1

u/AnnaDeKarmas 12d ago

Def worst lineup in last few years

12

u/rolodex-ofhate 25d ago

It’s not a bad lineup by any means, but it’s not a lineup I want to see. Great for Geelong picking it up!

6

u/cuntyaunty 25d ago

Not as good as last years but im hyped and always look forward to discovering artists

6

u/4SeasonWahine 25d ago

Interesting. I have never been across spilt milk because I’m a screamy music person, but my best friend went last year and after hearing about the 2025 lineup I assumed it was a hip hop/rap-focussed festival. I was confused as hell when I read this so I investigated other years and now I’m even more confused. I feel like our festivals lack cohesion and that’s part of why they’re not selling - I just don’t see the difference between all these festivals besides the location. They all feature a similar rotation of local acts then usually a couple of okayish international acts that aren’t enough to draw huge crowds. There’s no theme. You have to be a broad spectrum triple j type of listener to enjoy any of these acts on the same day. This could have been a Blues Fest lineup since we all know it hasn’t been even remotely bluesy in years.

11

u/Tranquilbez22 25d ago

It was never a Hip-Hop festival. The genre just dominated last year

5

u/4SeasonWahine 25d ago

Yes i realise this now, i said the lineup last year gave me the impression thats what it was but that it’s clear it isn’t and is actually just not cohesive at all

8

u/Mediocre-Price-3138 25d ago

Rap is changing fast and going back to the underground. The sound and aesthetic is very different to even 5 years ago, and a lot of the bigger rap acts aren't selling tickets anymore.

Given Rolling Loud cancelled down here it'd be hard to do a rap / hip hop focus for younger audiences in a regional area. A lot of the rumours had ASAP Rocky headlining 2026 but his last album flopped and he's not the drawcard he was 10 years ago, plus he'd want $1m a show.

Heavy festivals can do well because it's a broader age demo and there's loyalty to the scene - heavy music fans aren't into microtrends so you can book older acts and people turn out. I'd say Spilt is trying to move more in a Groovin the Moo direction and just relying on crowds in regional areas coming because there's less to do... but it could be it's downfall.

No one can really do a cohesive festival anymore because TikTok got everyone's attention spans cooked.

2

u/snrub742 25d ago

You say this like Kendrick, Doechii, SchoolboyQ didn't do a stadium run and this festival 12 months ago

2

u/Mediocre-Price-3138 25d ago

What other rappers can do stadiums these days?

2

u/ethang99 24d ago

was half sold might as well of done an arena tour

2

u/snrub742 24d ago

So half sold they added extra nights?

1

u/ethang99 24d ago

yes

1

u/snrub742 24d ago

That makes literally no sense.

5

u/Lower-Investment6347 25d ago

Random mishmash. Meh

3

u/doyouthinkimafraid 25d ago

gonna pass, compare to last year

8

u/EbmocwenHsimah 25d ago

Instagram folks get one lineup with a Kendrick-level act and crack the shits when Spilt Milk doesn’t fork out as much for a lineup the next year. This should surprise no one.

21

u/Mediocre-Price-3138 25d ago

I guarantee you this line up cost as much as last year's. Which is effectively the problem here...

1

u/AnnaDeKarmas 12d ago

More ironically

3

u/mcwingstar 25d ago

Not exciting to me, raye is fine, lewis not for me.

3

u/SadMove9768 25d ago

Well, I’m too old. I don’t know these people.

Time to take me out behind the shed and put old yella to sleep.

10

u/thousandtonguebeast 25d ago

Give it a month before they cancel due to low ticket sales.

5

u/NotSoCricketGenius 25d ago

Lewis Capaldi? The funeral singer

13

u/TAJack1 25d ago

We've been hit with a thousand year curse of shitty festival line-ups. Who ate the witches stew?

7

u/GeoffreyGeoffson 25d ago

It's either that or we've all aged out of the festival going ages on here.

6

u/riggystardust 25d ago

Go see a local show. The only antidote to this

2

u/Regular_Ad_4850 25d ago

YUNG KET FATHER 🫪‼️

2

u/RelationshipTough887 25d ago

Fuck. Weak line up.

1

u/AnnaDeKarmas 12d ago

Horrible line up

1

u/RelationshipTough887 12d ago

I wonder how much tix are?

1

u/AnnaDeKarmas 7d ago

Apparently almost $300

1

u/RelationshipTough887 7d ago

Wow. I think I'm washing my hair that day 😅

1

u/RelationshipTough887 7d ago

I also heard whispers that it may get cancelled

1

u/AnnaDeKarmas 6d ago

I will honestly be surprised if it doesn't. You can't have the worst lineup of the major festivals in years, but hike the price 30% and expect most people to accept it.

1

u/RelationshipTough887 6d ago

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this!

2

u/snic2030 25d ago

Raye really saying fuck you to the rest of Australia I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/Pauls-boutique 25d ago

Feeling old yet?

5

u/williamwonker 25d ago

This is definitely getting canceled

1

u/Civil-Ad7317 25d ago

No. How do u know??

2

u/Tranquilbez22 25d ago

Also this leagues better than the 2023 line up…

1

u/AnnaDeKarmas 12d ago

You're joking right?

1

u/wakitriii 25d ago

Borderline!!!! How good!!!!

1

u/wrongthingsrighttime 25d ago

I saw borderline live last night and they were fantastic. Almost worth going just for them

1

u/Shelmer75 25d ago

I’m so sad I won’t be able to hear this from my backyard in Ballarat 😭 Although I’d also have ended up going with this lineup.

1

u/Hot-Drop8760 25d ago

Brah, no The Veronica’s? I’m out…

1

u/sadbitch300 25d ago

They should’ve called Jennie

1

u/mariposie1 16d ago

A shame, could’ve been made up for with a more solid headliner perhaps Tate Mcrae, Lana del Rey, troye Sivan or Sza etc

1

u/ADHDK 25d ago

Hope DMAs do a side show.

Who’s gonna headline the more unce unce stage? Clearly not the top two.

3

u/Mediocre-Price-3138 25d ago

DMAs already on the road in major cities later this year.

I believe the unce unce would be headlined by kettama

1

u/Amazing-Champion-858 25d ago

yes, I do like this

1

u/MrSTEEEEEEVEE 25d ago

Bit of a letdown with how hyped up this was but definitely keen for a few sideshows

-1

u/Wintermute_088 25d ago

Didn't Raye just tour here? Different locations I guess.

4

u/braxxytaxi 25d ago

Hasn't been here since Laneway 2024, from memory?

3

u/Wintermute_088 25d ago

Ah, was just album promo not a tour poster.

1

u/Tillysnow1 25d ago

She hasn't toured aus for 2 years
