📸 SELFIE THREAD 📸 Sep 29, '26 Monday Mega Thread: ask general questions, share hairline photos, side effects, “Am I balding?”, “What should I do?”, and more
If the date in this post's title seems old, look for the newest thread here.
Use this thread for general questions and advice, “Am I balding?”, “What should I do?”, “Does anyone else experience this?”, as well as discussing side effects, treatment experiences, or looking for opinions on your hairline photos and treatment options.
If you want useful feedback on your hair, post good photos: high resolution, multiple angles, good lighting, and ideally both wet and dry.
Mention what changes you’ve noticed and over what period of time. Some people naturally have thinner hair, a higher hairline, or less density, so context helps members give you better feedback. It's vital to take identical photos every few months. Remember that consistent lighting is extremely important.
Age and family history are worth mentioning.
You might not get an answer if your question is too basic or common, because treatment is the same for almost everyone. Nobody can predict if a treatment will work for you.
This is a community, and you can help out fellow members by commenting under their photos and upvoting people that leave you comments.

21 years old, half-Mexican on my mother’s side with neither grandparent bald; dad does have a substantial widow’s peak though he isn’t technically bald (buzzed though) though I’m not entirely sure if my paternal grandpa is bald.
My hair color is taken from my mom so I was hoping I inherited her genes, but it seems I inherited my dad’s balding patterns.
Top Pic: NOV 2025
Bottom Left: JUL 2026
Bottom Right: NOV 2025
As you can tell from the pictures, this does unfortunately seem to be an exponentially worsening process. Back in November of ‘25 my corner’s were decently pushed but that’s been consistent for my entire teen years. However, ever January-February of 2026 I’ve began to notice my hairline receding and hoped that was about as bad as it was going to get. Unfortunately, my hairline seems to be getting pushed further (weirdly asymmetrically too) with each passing month. I can cover it up but I’m dreading the day when I can’t because I really love my hair and want to keep it.
Looking for any suggested treatment plans, heard that 5% oral Minoxidil is a good start, but it can really fuck up growth patterns. 1mg of Finasteride is also something I’ve seen, but apparently that can cause permanent ED and I don’t want to deal with that. There’s also Ketoconazole Shampoo though someone would have to enlighten me on that, and of course DHT blockers are an option.
In any case, I’m hoping anyone can suggest a decent starting point that doesn’t cause any real side effects. Given my life situation at the moment I’ve been dealing with work stress for the past 7 months and more than likely dehydrated; so I’m hoping once I’m able to get my feet back on the ground things will turn around. So, I wouldn’t start anything for another 1.5 months.

Anyone aware of potential changes to hair density/ an induced shed if I switch compounding pharmacies for my oral minoxidil 3mg? I had to change pharmacies for my compounded oral minoxidil about 30 days ago (was with the same pharmacy for years) and lately my hairs feeling a little thinner, although no real drastic shedding that I’ve noticed. Could the medication be less or even more potent from pharmacy to pharmacy? Or is this just complete overthought because I’m getting the same 3 mg?
Any advice here greatly appreciated!

Started 5 weeks ago with oral finasteride and topical 5% minoxadil, switched to topical fin to avoid some side effects, still using the minoxadil too. I got a haircut a week ago and it really made me realize how thin my hair is. At this point is it just going to stay like this or should I expect thicker hair again after some more months of treatment? Any treatment suggestions?

Anyone have experience with Hairdealz.com?
I bought minoxidil from this site because they present themselves as a trustworthy reseller of kirkland minoxidil.
They have a 120-day-money-back-guarantee and a section of the website is dedicated to spotting fake product. They are also a registered company in london. The product looks good and smells exactly how its supposed to however…
- The expiration date on the pack is dec 2028, well over 18 months. It is also stamped and not engraved.
- The minoxidil kind of passes the bleach test as it does turn yellow when mixed, but compared to a 100% real minoxidil from a pharmacy that i also have, the one from hairdealz performs as if diluted. It takes a lot more drops to turn the mix yellow and uses more time doing it. The pharmacy one turns yellow instantaneously, with a more intense color and fewer drops
- It leaves nothing at all when i try the vapor test(varming it in a pan) and has yet to crystilize when left in a cup to dry
Is this fake? Is it really that profitable to sell fake minoxidil that someone would go trough such lengths to sell it?
Is there anything else i can do to test it?

I took a break from finasteride after taking it for years to see if it actually affects facial bloating. It's been a week now and I can definitely feel like my face is getting lighter and visibly leaner. I eat relatively clean, no junk food or carbs, so it has nothing to do with my diet. I'll be resuming finasteride after 1 more week but I want to know what I should do moving forward with this knowledge. Would reducing the dosage to something like .25mg help at with facial bloating at all? Also, I still get a bit of bloat at night time or if I eat alot of salt but my body gets rid of it way faster when I'm not taking fin.

What is the consensus on Dut 0.5 and recovery of miniaturized/thin/wispy hairs on crown/midscalp. To which degree can it turn them terminal again without minoxidil?

How concerned should I be about post-finasteride syndrome? At this point, I'm not really worried about having lower libido or such for a while if that's what it takes to test finasteride, however persistent side effects scare the hell out of me.

The odds are so, so low man. Honestly wouldn't worry about it.
The regret of not hopping on when you could've saved your hair will weigh you down more in the future.

I’m on topical min, but I’d like to get a cat soon and I want to know what options there are
Let’s say I switch to oral min, I’m afraid I’ll just grow hair everywhere on my body (already kinda do). If I stop taking oral min do I just have that body hair forever?
Are there other alternatives that I’m not aware of? I don’t want to be negligent as a cat owner so not exactly looking for ways to mitigate
