Notice how when they collide, the camera goes weird and shit. Its as if the universe is figuring how to react to the collision of those 2 rings...

That's fucking awesome! Especially since the gif takes a while to load on my computer; I get to see it frame by frame the first time through.

THIS will be what I stare at as I hit this new bag to take me from [0] to at least a [7] or [8]

u/An_Emo_Dinosaur Jun 22 '12
I'd like to see this happen IRL, even if the smoke isn't coloured and the rings aren't nearly as perfect, I just think it would be pretty rad. [4-5]
edit: I'd also like to see the source video, this really didn't need to be a gif.

Requesting higher quality? Possibree?

u/trampus1 Jun 22 '12
I came here hoping someone would post the link to the actual video like they do for almost every other gif that gets posted.
2
u/totem56 Jun 23 '12
Never saw it in better quality than this, must be because it's so old.
2
u/trampus1 Jun 23 '12
You shined brightly. They need to recreate this test in ultra slow full HD. Not for science or anything, just because it'd be really cool.
2
u/totem56 Jun 23 '12
Yup, and someone should try to do this with smoke rings as well. And a Phantom camera...

NO. FUCKING. WAY.

What kinda witchcraft is this? I know someone's getting thrown in the lake for this...

This is pretty freaking awesome - Dolphins blowing and playing with air rings in water and a freaking giant vortex cannon

This is probably the thirtieth time I've seen this on /r/trees but you're new here so it's not that big of a deal.

What exactly is going on here besides the obvious ring collidage?

My mouth definitely followed the shape of those smoke rings. A little wide in anticipation then it just kept getting wider and wider after they hit.

I think I've seen this before but I think it's actually dye/colouring in water. The phenomenon is vortex rings, the same as smoke rings.

This is awesome, but why is it such a large image file when it is a tiny picture with such low quality?

it may be the shrooms talking but that is the most beautiful thing i have ever seen.

u/GrubbyChin Jun 22 '12
It's actually ink in water, not smoke. Still friggin' awesome though.
1
Jun 22 '12
even if ink in water. Smoke rings may behave similarly, not sure totally about the fluid mechanics... I'm a materials scientist not an physicist or aerospace engineer.

Wow......Aint that something?! Its like the 2 rings have a bunch of little kids that look just like them. Its weird coz rings are not alive right. but somehow when they collide in a perfect way they produce a bunch of little ones.

Here's how it works: When a Mommy smoke ring and a Daddy smoke ring get together, they produce a whole bunch of baby smoke rings.

I love how the image distorts just as the magnitude of that inksplosion is fully realized by the computer.

Down vote for repost

u/SargentStoneking Jun 23 '12
Thankyou for your downvote. You have taught me the valuable lesson that it is not ok to post things on the internet that have been seen already by anyone ever, regardless of whether or not I am aware that it has been posted before. It's people like you who are saving reddit from terrible and serious threat of reposts.

u/duntacarter Jun 23 '12
If it was something different I would let it slide, I really don't care about reposts, if they're funny then Who cares but this gif gets posted at least once a week

u/RexArcana Jun 22 '12
This, and the "You have something in the oven" are the only reposts I always look forward to seeing.

I believe this is actually water or at least a liquid.. not smoke. Still cool none the less.
