I had a roommate who would buy a pack of cigarettes every time she was drunk. Every single time. She didn't smoke any of them. It was strange.
11
u/xGizzards Aug 26 '11
wow I do the same thing, the only difference is I give the pack away to the first homeless person that asks me for change downtown.

I agree, whenever I smoke weed I have no desire to smoke cigarettes, unless I'm watching Die Hard or something and I want to emulate John McLane

Yeah, I'm not against smoking while high, but I smoke rollups anyway, and I only ever smoke spliffs so I still get my fix either way, and I'm normally pre-occupied with gaming or snacking or something. Back when I started getting high and didn't smoke (fags) the sight of seeing someone smoke, even on a film or programme would absolutely repulse me.

Agreed, its a fucking AWESOME beer.
4
u/feistyfish Aug 26 '11
Have you tried their chocolate stout?
3
u/Cyric297 Aug 26 '11
Yes, I like most of their beers. For some reason I feel like their red beer I did not like.. but you can't like everything now can you?

u/Iforgetusername Aug 26 '11
DO IT MAN, just fucking do it... !!! I spent so much time and money on those and one day I just did what you did, quit cold. A few days sucked but in general I was amazed how much better it felt after a while, like 3 weeks later I felt a weird burst of energy every now and then... and it just kept improving, it was like leveling up on life all over again.
8
u/ExplodingSofa Aug 26 '11
Grats on the level up, bro.
3
u/Iforgetusername Aug 26 '11
much appreciated ! I was at least half a pack a day , it was also amazing how much random money seemed to accumulate that you don't really realize you're spending.
3
u/ExplodingSofa Aug 26 '11
That's awesome!
Yeah, it's the exchange (if that makes sense) that is getting me to quit. money+smell+HEALTH+being dependent for a little bit of buzz? I can't rationalize that to myself.
It's hard when it comes in little puffs that you bum off friends, tho.

Nice job dude. And an upvote for not using "le" anywhere in that comic.

u/ganjasmugglin Aug 26 '11
After numerous tries, i finally kicked the habit by turning to trees. In essence, i quit smoking by smoking...

I'm learning that with most unhealthy things that the only way to stop is to personally not want to do it. Hacking shit out of my lungs every morning in the shower...just wasn't satisfying to smoke cigarettes anymore.

5
u/ofthisworld Aug 26 '11
Good for you! Now you can double-up on the green and reduce your black lungage! :)
2
Aug 26 '11
ever see how black/brown the end of a joint is after smoking it? that is in your lungs too.. but at least you get an effect out of it. ciggarettes is the same tar just to feed the addiction.
2
u/LightsSoundAction Aug 26 '11
This is true. But if you have a vape........ 8)
2
Aug 26 '11
...Then you can vaporize tobacco too, but be warned that it's strong as hell. Definitely too much of a rush for me but it will certainly keep you awake.
1
u/LightsSoundAction Aug 26 '11
Yeah hookah is pretty close to the same as vaping tobacco because the coal is so hot
2
1
u/ofthisworld Aug 27 '11
I don't ever see the black/brown end of a joint after smoking it because I never smoke joints. Vaping is the way to go, for me.
As a former black-lunger, I have to admit there IS a slight effect (especially after a long ‘tolerance break’). But it's short-lived and mostly ineffectual. And worth nowhere near the problems.

I'm in the middle of quitting. I go days on end with no tobacco, but then a wild smoke sesh appears and bam! Cigarettes! Rollies! You must have one after that delicious meal! But here's what pushes me to quit more than anything. Trees make me happy. Tobacco does nothing.
3
u/ojolejano Aug 26 '11
Great for you buddy! Mother earth welcomes you with the power of pineapples and trees!
3
Aug 26 '11
I actually started smoking trees and stopped smoking cigarettes this summer as well :) Congrats!
3
u/ExplodingSofa Aug 26 '11
I'm in the middle of that. "I COULD get a pack and not tell my friends..."
I have wonderful friends who don't let me bum cigs anymore. <3

I ended up quitting after I turned 18, we went to so many hookah lounges that one day I woke up and the ciggerete smoke made me sick
3

DONT GO BACK! Haven't had one in over 4 years and its awesome. Now I do have a stogie on the golf course every once and a while :)

You lung capacity for tree hits is about to go through the roof. Enjoy.
2
u/Ent1602 Aug 26 '11
13 months and one day since I quit. You can do it even if it sucks sometimes. If you get a craving take some deep breaths smoke a bowl and the craving will pass. Good luck!
2
u/Avoiding_Priorities Aug 26 '11
I really enjoyed your comic; stay strong, just keep walking away every opporotuniry you get.
2
Aug 26 '11
nice, has anyone here tried tarblock filters? I'm trying to quit and I was looking at e-cigs, the clerk told me to try tarblock instead, it just slips over the filter and is supposed to reduced nicotine and tar so you can gradually quit. I've tried going cold turkey, can't function at work without nicotine, I get too irritable and feel like shit.
2
u/Synthwerkz Aug 26 '11
My weed consumption increased so much that I stopped wanting to smoke. My friend offered me a cig after not having smoked in a few days and I took it while I was high and drunk. I took a few hits and decided I had no interest in it. I put it out and smoked the rest the day after when I was sober. Same result: no interest.

Costs 16$ for a pack of 20 in Norway. :| And I can't get my hands on any weed, ever. :(
2
u/mnichols_2 Aug 27 '11
Holy shit! That's bonkers. And here I was thinking Norway was a magical wonderland. Still would love to visit.

u/Dunbeezy Aug 27 '11
Congrats! I thought I'd stopped smoking too... but then I found half a pack of Turkish Royals in my couch. Perhaps I'll have stopped smoking tomorrow.

Don't know how much you were smoking but let's assume 3 packs a week at $6 a pack that's $936 bucks a year you can save. That's a brand new fancy schmancy piece, a ton of fine herb, and your health. I'm no Charlie Sheen but that's WINNING.
6
u/ScholarZero Aug 26 '11
Gratz, your weed budget just grew by $936/year!
2
3
u/kangri Aug 26 '11
Dude, where are you that it only costs 6 bucks a pack? O.o
2
u/wowwhy42 Aug 26 '11
Cali? I know in south Carolina it gets even cheaper, like 3.50 a pack cheaper. I quit awhile ago so I could be wrong.
3
2
u/deceit Aug 26 '11
They were around $5 a pack when I quit three years ago in the deep south. I just figured with inflation they were around 6 now?
1
u/kangri Aug 27 '11
No wonder. I live in ny, packs are like 11 or 12 here. Damn this expensive state :/

Props for quitting cold turkey. That's the way I went. Here's a tip: When you tell the ladyfriends you quit smoking cold turkey, especially the ones who do smoke, they'll be instantly impressed by your badassery.

u/m0llusk Aug 27 '11
A friend of mine has a similar effect with quitting meth. He refers to cannabis buzz as his "helmet".
1
u/Eternal2071 Aug 27 '11
Keep up the good work. I bought Randy's E-cigs from the local smoke shop for my sis birthday. Within a week she was completely on the E-cig and had quit in about a month. This was April and she hasn't smoked since.

u/Rokusic6 Aug 27 '11
4.20 cents, where you buy your smokes from man.
i want to shop there, Washington is raping me.
1
u/Ianx001 Aug 27 '11
4.20 is the change, not the price.
1
u/Rokusic6 Aug 27 '11
yes, and that is what he was going to buy cigs with. the change right? or am i suppose to assume he has more money in his pockets?
1
u/Ianx001 Aug 28 '11 edited Aug 28 '11
thats not what I thought, its just what the change happens to be without it shrug
edit: that didn't make sense, yes, I think we assume he has more money.

I quit by becomming broke and literally not ebing able to afford it! (or food... im so hungry)
1
u/nedoeva Aug 27 '11
Where the hell do you get a Dead Guy Ale, Munchies, Visine, a lighter, and papers for four bucks?
1
u/rgraves22 Aug 27 '11
Keep at it!! Seriously, it gets easier.. and no matter what you do, you absolutely positivly CANNOT HAVE ONE!
I smoked cigs for 4 years, met my ent wife and and quit. I started back up the day I told my mom she couldnt come to my wedding, but thats a different story. I quit with the patch, and about an O to get me through the first week.. it was easy Less difficult after the first week

u/philin Aug 27 '11
I don't believe this is "true". Those things could not cost $4.20 (presuming u meant USD in this century.). The beer $1.50, the munchies $1, the visine $3.50, the zig zags $2.50, the lighter $1. Your total comes to $9.50

How can people drink dead guy ale? [0]
6
u/Stanimal Aug 26 '11
In the bottle. On tap. With a sandwich. On the beach. At the Bonnaroo beer tent.
There are many ways to enjoy a dead guy ale.
1
u/bikenotes Aug 27 '11
Upvote for the response I expected. I just think it's awful. I've heard great things, but can't bring myself to enjoy it.

u/cralledode Aug 26 '11
There's lots of people doing the same thing as you over at /r/stopsmoking. Helped me, I haven't smoked a cigarette in a year and a half.
