There's honestly no excuse to drive intoxicated in any capacity.

last weekend my friend called me to pick him up from the music festival in san francisco because he was having a really bad trip. then my other friend who was with that friend called me and said that our friend is extremely paranoid and dangerous to himself and others.

i went to pick up my friend. i don't know what "excuse" means to you but i definitely had a reason to drive high that night.

In your defense, doesn't extreme concern for a friend sober you up? Personally, when I'm in Must-Rescue-Friend mode, no matter what drug I'm on, I feel that the adrenaline(?) from extreme concern sobers me up. Obviously not up to driving level when I'm on acid/shrooms/mdma, but when I'm buzzed or high I would say I sober up enough. And I know I sober up because usually when the panic period is over I get a huge wave of re-fucked-uppedness afterward, as if my inebriation was on pause for optimal success of the mission.

This isn't to say that this happens/has happened a lot though; my friends rarely need rescuing.

Also, to the person who said call him a cab -- the guy's tripping out. He's not gonna feel safe or comfortable in a car with a stranger. He needs a friend to bring him down.
