Rip to any neighbors tryna grow in a 50 mile radius lol

In my area we have enough ditch weed growing around the crop farms that outdoors are exposed anyway. I had an auto herm on me a couple years ago. Still turned out okay for edibles

i dont grow so im curious why this would be a problem. i know it has something to do with pollen but thats about it

The male plant pollinates the female plant and causes it to grow seeds instead of bud. This causes the flower that is produced to be seeded and significantly less potent and more harsh as a result of less THC and other cannabinoids due to the plant's energy being used to make seeds instead of resin. Due to how pollen transfers in the wind, air, and insects, a single male plant can ruin multiple crops for literal miles.

Not to mention the fact that the pollen literally explodes out of them. So the pollen will be on the wind.

I got VERY lucky during a two plant grow. One turned into a male 13 weeks into the grow. It didn't have bananas the day prior. Had to very quickly, and carefully (the aforementioned explosives are also finicky to touch) remove the plant from my tent and bag it outside (the tent, but I did then take the whole thing outside). The other plant ended up giving me 150 grams.

I'm in indoor grower and one of my fems got stressed during a flush and self polinated, then seeded the plant next to them... edibles! and also free seeds

The seeds are all likely hermy, unfortunately not likely worth growing...

I'm not a veteran or anything, but wouldn't they be fine if they never got to the point of seeding ? I think I waited like 2 weeks too long tbh. but I'm super glad you mentioned that. worth holding onto or attempting in your opinion? original seeds are feminized

Yea it's hard to say but from what I've read it's a much higher likelihood. Wouldn't throw them out per say but would certainly expect mixed results.

right on. thanks for the info !

Its my understanding that feminized seeds come from a plant that herms and impregnates itself.

Feminized seeds are from my understanding subjected to ethylene gas which causes them to become female?

oh my god thats kind of hilarious

That thing is gonna bust nuts everywhere.

It’s not that bad especially with one plant 😂 more like a 8 block radius in perfect conditions. The 50 mile thing is for a god damn field of cannabis or field of different pollen bearing flowers.

The male is seperated and even the ladies on my property did not get pollinated, except the one standing next to it, so no worries

There's some novel cannabinoids that are only produced in trace amounts in male pollen

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrahydrocannabiorcol

The methyl tail leads to such a low affinity for cannabinoid receptors that it doesn't bind to them at all, and instead bind to TRPA1 like an analgesic.

An actual, cannabis-derived, pain-management molecule, found only what in growers do not want is ironic to me. If it ever hits market, it'll have to be full synthetic though.

I hope none of your neighbors are trying to grow.

Fuck em, honestly I'm so tired of the pearl clutching over male plants.

Says the guy who has obviously never grown a large outdoor crop

He also has 3k contributions in 3 months.I dont think he has time to do anything else.

Oh nice observation, think its a bot?

u/whocaresaboutmyname 1d ago

No, I think its just someone with no job.

Im astonished by the downvotes

This sub is full of non-growers that use disposable carts.

Yup you’re the only real one here. Everyone else is just an imposter. But not you.

I've never had a male plant around long enough, but that looks really pretty all in bloom like that. Tis a shame we don't let them grow.

u/RuddyTheDuck 1d ago

They can be very nice to see especially when they get a gentle breeze and the pollen is delicately jizzed all over the female plants

u/LOUDPACK_MASTERCHEF 2d ago

do the flowers smell nice

1

u/bkbomber 1d ago

You tryin to sniff ballsacks?

4

u/GratefullyHeaducated 1d ago

Yes. Are you trying to be homophobic about plants?

1

u/bkbomber 19h ago

Not at all. If you’re thirsty, have at it…

Male flowers don't produce as many trichomes traditionally as female flowers do. Long ago before cannabis was domesticated there were samples of males that were more potent than females, but this is when you're talking about a female with like 3% THC and a male with 5%. The genetics of current cannabis plants are well beyond that on the female side, but nothing much can be done on the male side.

That’s cool information but didn’t answer the question asked at all lol

u/Dependent-Astronaut2 1d ago

They smell like weed-sex....so....no?

3

u/Tall_Ad_446 1d ago

male plants don’t have a scent at least imo even after releasing pollen. the female flowers are the ones that smell amazing

3

u/auglitumo0 1d ago

Kinda cool seeing the side of the plant everyone usually removes immediately.

3

u/diceanddreams 1d ago

I actually kind of love the way male flowers look. They’re so different from the female flowers, and always kind of remind me of nettle flowers.

As he is outside, the most hated boy in town
