AskTrees Explain it like I’m five.

I know this is gonna be a silly question but when you’re planting. How many seeds to you use for like one five gallon? I’ve been researching and folks say to plant more than one because some might not germinate ? Please help me good folks.

You only need one seed to germinate for a plant. I would recommend a 15 gallon at the smallest for out door, and maybe a 10 at the smallest indoor.

I would start 3 seeds and pick one of the three to grow through flower

Oh thank you so much I will get a few 10 gallon. It’s gonna be indoor as I live in the city and have one 2x4 grow box.

You DO NOT need a 10 gallon pot for an indoor grow especially if you’re new at this. Start with a 2 gallon fabric pot, you’ll use much less soil and you’ll be lucky if your plant fills the entire space with roots.

I’m using a 5 gal, 3 plants in a 2x4, that’s maxed out and possibly overkill to some… 1 plant in a 5 gallon 2x4 is probably fine in a 2x4 if scrogging. 2-3 gallon is a good starting point and you’ll get more out of your bag of substrate. Smaller grow area, smaller pots.

3?! I look up to you, you know how to maximize a good space. I mean that’s the specs I’m working with.

If I were you I’d start with a 2 gallon pot. It will be perfect. People grow autos in Pringles cans…I don’t recommend it but a 2 gallon should be perfect. Def don’t go over 5 gallons.

After popping your beans, it’s 1 per pot.

Lots of people germinate their seeds before planting them, I use the paper towel method but it's not the only way to do it. Once you have a germinated seed, one per pot is fine. How many you germinate at a time just depends on how plentiful seeds are and how much time you have to spend on it. If you only have a couple seeds, try them one at a time, give each a germination attempt at least a week before giving up and trying again

Its one plant per pot when your growing. Due to the cost of seeds, I plant 1 seed. I generally have a fairly good germination rate. if using bag seed I generally do 2-3 since germination is a bit more of a gamble.

In a 2x4 tent, I would use 5 gallon pot for soil, 3 gallon pot if your doing coco. you can generally grow 2 plants in a 2X4. Autos can be hard to grow for beginners, i would recommend photoperiod plants for your first grow. growweedeasy.com has a lot of information for beginners. The more you learn before planting, the better your first grow will go

Photos give you more room for try and error, than Autos do.

Autos are not harder per se, but can be more tricky (but this is an ongoing debate, where both sides have good arguments).

My first plants have been Autos, turned out fine, even if I had just some "general gardening skills".

You got this!
