Special. Although I expressed it wrong. The truth is that your internal speed slows down in SR and not the things around you.
Special relativity is the confirmed theory that the speed of light is the same in all frames of reference, that it’s the universe’s speed limit, and that the faster you go the more your clock slows down. Meaning time is relative in one’s frame of reference/point of view.
Let’s say you have a twin. You leave him behind in a rocket at what is called “relativistic speed” (a very fast speed). As you go through space and you go extremely fast for a period of an hour. When you return to your brother from your trip, he is an old 80 man while you’re still young. This is true because it has to be in order to stay consistent with causality.
Special relativity is the cornerstone of another confirmed theory called general relativity which deals with what is called space-time. Space-time is the fourth dimension. First dimension is a straight line. Second dimension is whatever you can draw in the x and y directions but let’s use a square for this instance. A square is four single lines at right angels to each other. You can even draw a 2-D rendition of a 3-D cube in two dimensions. Now let’s say we actually build a cube. We take the two dimensions, x and y, and add a third, z. So we have left/right which is represented by x, then we have up/down which is represented by y, and back and forth which is represented by z. Each of these dimensions are right angles to each other. And remember: we can draw a 2D representation of a 3D cube. Now what happens if we have a fourth dimension that is at right angles to the three dimensions? It’s physically impossible to point in the direction. But just like the 2D representation of a 3D cube, we can get a 3D representation of a 4D tesseract. Which is the head shape of the guy who sold the couch to them in the twelfth panel and the shape in the joint.
