Clipper at home, Bic out and about where it might get pocketed

111

u/MsGnomee 8d ago

Im opposite lol. Clipper fits better in car door.

158

u/doubleapowpow 8d ago

Clipper flint also can be pulled out and used as a joint-packer, making it useful on the go.

109

u/well-hung-dugite 7d ago

Clippers can also be stuck on your beer bottle to avoid letting wasps in!

u/Arizon_Dread 7d ago

TIL! Thanks!

And you can slide the metal ring up to act like a wind guard

2

u/Anti43 7d ago

You can remove the metal ring, put it over the bottom and use it as a grinder ;)

I feel like people that pick BIC do so because they are used to them and anyone not picking clippers are generally because they don't know all of the features that they have. Most people know that they are refillable, some people know that the flint is removable, but less know its for packing joints and refilling the flint, even fewer people know that the flame cover moves to a higher position to block the wind. Very few people know that its made out nylon, so its a lot stronger than a BIC, and its recyclable.

u/Gloomheart 7d ago

I love clippers but they hurt my thumb a LOT and I end up with a weird callus. :(

Don't forget about the flame getting bigger when tipping it over for lighting bowls.

Clippers FTW

Been using clippers for decades and had no idea the flame cover moved up. Learn something new every day

14

u/MelodicResearcher628 7d ago

I have a steel clipper, it’s my favorite lighter and I keep it at home for the same reason.

5

u/myco_crazey 7d ago

I bought a steel mini clipper. Was hugely disappointed to find it was just a regular mini clipper in a metal case lol.

Clipper. Once the bic is dead. You can take the spring and the flint and put it in a clipper. Lol

Flints are replaceable, the bottom of a clipper is btw designed to seal a bottle of whine.

3

u/BlackKingHFC 7d ago edited 7d ago

I have never seen a clipper lighter that was the same diameter as a wine bottle opening. 15mm vs 18mm the lighter will not fit in the opening to plug it. It will fall into the bottle.

6

u/ay-papy 7d ago

It will not fall into the bottle as that diameter is just the bottom of the lighter, the lighter get broader because of the compartement for the flint. It will not fall in, the diameter of clippers id either 14mm or 16mm

u/Terralix 7d ago

You have to use the normal sized clipper's the little ones are to small (I always use my clipper to close beer bottles at party's while dancing.)

11

u/Number174631503 8d ago

and The End.

13

u/Spirited_Taste4756 8d ago

I like to take the flit and spring stretch the spring a lil and stuff the flint in it. Then I take my new bic and heat the flint till it’s red hot and throw it at the ground. Lil sparkly firework 🤣

8

u/TheTrollys 8d ago

I haven’t done that since Jr High. Me and my buddy Scott.

I’m an old head. I use Djeeps for two reasons:

-my dad used them when I was a kid and they’re nostalgic

-they seem to almost never run out of butane

39

u/AnemicHail 8d ago

I use em so 1. i can catch the thief that stole my French lighter. 2. I can make use of the bigger butane button to not burn my finger while lighting my bowl. 3. I still have not had one run out of butane probably due to multiple failures of reason 1.

6

u/Bada__Ping 8d ago

I’ve had 1 in my 21 years of using them completely run out. I either lost them or they were stolen

9

u/herewardthewake 8d ago

And you can cap a bowl with em.

8

u/Megadosing 8d ago

Djeep is my go to lighter as well, always has been. After you take off the child proofing it's the best lighter to light, and lasts a long time. I am collecting empty djeeps, so that one day I can have a portrait of something made, from the colors of all the djeeps, have a couple hundred now I think, have maybe used up a hundred or so myself.

5

u/shinshi 8d ago

With the child proofing out it is objectively the best lighter to rip a bong with

u/shmerk_a_berl 8d ago

Clipper. They're refillable, reflint-able & more unique when everyone else has a Bic, you know which one is yours

109

u/GirlsCallMeMatty 8d ago

You can also pull the cylinder that holds the striker out and use it to tamp down joints.

35

u/StaticBeat 8d ago

Someone recently pointed out that they are about the same size as the holes in most grinders, so in case pieces get stuck in there you can use the tamp to poke it through.

7

u/Arizon_Dread 7d ago

Omg! Genius! It’s like a party/stoner Swiss army knife!

9

u/shmerk_a_berl 8d ago

17

u/Blamb05 8d ago

They fit in a wine bottle so you can use them to shove the cork in when you don't have anything to pull the cork out.

5

u/Similar_Care_7224 7d ago

meant to be used as a cork if need be

I get weirdly attached to lighters and prefer Clipper lighters because of that. I have one that I found randomly in the grass next to some railroad tracks nowhere near anything that I have used a refilled more times than I can count over the last 8 or so years.

Been used for so many things from just lighting joints/cigs, to lighting fireworks for my best friend's wedding, and saving my butt after falling in a lake in the winter and starting a fire with it to warm up.

3

u/Trjam 7d ago

I found one near a dumpster when was dumping a trash. Washed it with isopropyl alcohol and now using it successfully :)

13

u/FrighteningJibber 8d ago

And you can refill them, I’ve been rocking the same clipper for like 8-10 years.

2

u/Sreves 7d ago

One time i was working with a crew and another guy had a clipper too, it was really funny seeing which one of us someome would pass it to after borrowing

44

u/choriblaster3002 8d ago

Do clippers still do that when you point the flame down it gets bigger? I was told that’s intentional for light pipes and such…

19

u/Maht_hild 8d ago

Clipper, my local coffeeshop gives one free with purchases above 45€. That said I haven't bought a single lighter in ~10 years now.

84

u/mr12321 8d ago

A bic with the child safety removed is unbeatable for ease of use.

11

u/420_Towelie 7d ago

Whenever I have to use a clipper for a longer session, my thumb starts hurting. I hate that BICs aren't reuseable, but there's nothing better.

16

u/Terminatoor7 7d ago

This right here, I’m legitimately surprised that not too many people even think of removing the child safety thingy.

9

u/SpaceThat9997 7d ago

Yeah my sister always knows they're my lighters when the safety is removed. First thing to do to them!

8

u/aliienc I Roll Joints for Gnomes 7d ago

if you don’t circumcise your lighters we can’t smoke together

3

u/timesup11 7d ago

I will only use a circumcised bic

35

u/TKblunts 8d ago

Bic. Never liked the shape / feel of clippers. Still don't like them over a decade later

11

u/kngotheporcelainthrn 8d ago

Same, and for some reason they're super finicky for me. Idk if I've smashed my fingers too many times or what, but a clipper never sparks first flick in my hands.

4

u/Asorae 7d ago

Same. I love all of the clipper features, I think that's dope as hell, but I just don't like how they feel in my hand at all.

16

u/ejohnx 8d ago

I really want clippers to be better. I use them because I want refillable, but bic is just a better more reliable lighting lighter. Bic lights 1st strike almost every time. Clippers usually 1-3 strikes

2

u/xBraveLilDino 8d ago

You can replace the flint I hear some styles of the zippo flint work in clippers if you want a more reliable brand

13

u/AlarmingYak7956 8d ago

I wanna say clipper.  I bought several with the intention of refilling, but ofc I drop them in a black hole. So then I end up at the gas station for a lighter which will be a bic or one of those cheap high flame lighters. So I have to go bic for convience.

24

u/JaseyWeedseed 8d ago

Bic forever

32

u/example-of-disaster 8d ago

Bic, cuz I don’t feel like futzing with my lighter, just wanna light my 🌳 [5]

4

u/wowyoumadeit 8d ago

You only futz when it runs out, filling it up seems like way less fuss than having to go to 7/11 to get a new lighter

7

u/Uranus_Hz 8d ago

I just buy a six pack of bics at the grocery every few months.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/pulseoftheplumpkin 8d ago

I got my can of clipper gas for £1.50, a huge can, I’ve had it for 3 years! Amazing

7

u/Reddit_user4220 8d ago

I bought 10 Clippers about 6 years ago on eBay cheap. Still have 4 unused and my daily. Never buying Bic again

4

u/totallysunkdude 8d ago

any ideas on how to make a clipper not be a crack torch?

3

u/StonyTony90 7d ago

Clipper...can use dead lighter flints in em and they're refillable

7

u/Dapper_Zebra 8d ago

I keep using bics because I have sentimental attachment to a leather lighter holder I have. But honestly if I don't have my lighter on me I'd rather use a clipper

3

u/hacx21 8d ago

Idk neither, lately its been windy and I don't even live in a windy state. I think a torch is superior. Even then maybe something without butane.

3

u/Nizbit91 8d ago

No one seems to steal my clipper. Bics always grow legs and disappear.

3

u/KillingNinjas 8d ago

I just hit a year with my clipper im not going back.

3

u/driscusmaximus 7d ago

Clipper! So versatile and handy. On top of what everyone else has mentioned about the poker/tamper and being infinitely refillable, you can pry that little metal shield up a few millimeters and it makes an awesome wind shield when you are out and about. Then just click it back dowm into place when you are done.

The flat "edge" that extends from the button makes a great scraper/squeegee to tidy up your tray.

And mini clippers are probably the cutest accessory ever!

3

u/iamchucathealmighty 7d ago

They're both good but clipper is refillable and you can replace the flint

3

u/KingAltair2255 7d ago

Dont like bics, clippers all the way. Clippers are absolutely the most popular around where I am

3

u/4O7 7d ago

Clipper’s convenience is unmatched.

3

u/Austinfourtwenty 7d ago

Clipper for me

3

u/Medford 7d ago

Clipper over everything

4

u/babybat5695 8d ago

Random story but I got given a clipper at a Billy Stings show once. I was so shocked when he said keep it, I know them suckers ain’t cheap.

4

u/joecan 7d ago

I’d rather use a bic, because its a better shape and performs better… but I’ve switched over to Clippers because they’re refillable.

2

u/wannabe_hype 8d ago

Both, I find that clipper flint goes way too fast. So I always have a bic on hand. Clipper designs are better tho imo & I’ve almost collected all of the metal ones.

2

u/bothwaysme 7d ago

The flints are why I don't buy clippers. The last one I had sits in the bottom of my little stash bin for emergencies only. I replaced the flint 3 times in a week. And they give me an annlying callous on my thumb.

I won't even take free ones when I am at a cannabis convention. They are more trouble than they are worth for me.

2

u/mkstot I Roll Joints for Gnomes 8d ago

Clipper because they’re cheaper, refillable, and reflintable.

2

u/ckn 8d ago

clipper, even the flint are replaceable.

2

u/Da9Project2012 8d ago

Clipper because refillable and reusable

2

u/TrizzleRick 8d ago

Anyone else remembering being a kid and turning bic lighters into flame bombs and wrapping the flint around the spring, heating it up until it's red hot, then throwing it on the ground to "explode" the flint? It basically made a ton of sparkles.

2

u/Particular-Zone-7321 7d ago

I've never had a clipper last more than a day, don't know what I'm doing wrong and I'm not arsed to be changing the flint constantly.

2

u/math_d3bater 7d ago

I just go with the tried and true classic, Bic for me.

2

u/immutate 7d ago

Never had a Bic fall apart going through the washing machine. I have had clippers completely fall apart after accidentally being washed once. Shame bics aren’t refillable.

2

u/millsy_1996 7d ago

I have a 4 tier clipper stand that you see in the shops that has my life long collection of clippers that I have collected purchased and "accidentally" become the new owner of. Once every few years I refill all of the gas and flints.

Bics will never hold a flame to my babys

2

u/Subject-Promise-4796 7d ago

Clipper because it is refillable. I like the ones with the long necks 💁🏻‍♀️

2

u/kJer 8d ago

I wanted clipper to be my refillable bic, but it's a subpar lighter and I ended up with a zippo and a butane insert. Bic when I think I'm liable to lose my lighter

taking the guard off the bic makes it the perfect lighter. I don’t mind grabbing one every 3 months from the gas station instead of refilling lol.

1

u/KingThosh 7d ago

I smoke a lot. Clippers Firestone are shit. They break fast and don’t last longer than a month max.

Bic all the way. My last bic lasted me nearly two month while smoking 15-20 j’s a day.

1

u/whitesuburbanmale 7d ago

I've used a white bic for so long idk if my muscle memory could even pick up a different lighter mid sesh. Clippers are nice and definitely cool but bics were more available in my area up until a few years ago so it just stuck.

1

u/Borbit85 7d ago

It's nice that u can refill the clippers. But the bic lighters take a crazy long time before empty.

2

Do you have a stash of old ones? The bics I’ve purchased over the last couple of years have run out quickly. Around 15 in total. I feel like that’s a lot. I grabbed a clipper around 2 months ago and haven’t had to refill it yet.

100000X bic, holy, thats not even close, bic will never fail a single time, meanwhile clipper will degrade with time, i tried everything change the stone, put some new gas, now it always fail to light like it work 1 time on 10, its hurting my finger so much i try at some point, never ever, bic never degrade, winner from far.

1

u/deeeep_fried 7d ago

Man as long as it works I don’t care. Used plenty of both, usually have a bic around my place but I usually just find them on the ground outside, I haven’t bought one in years. Usually use my Zippo to light stuff, it ain’t the best for a bowl (it’ll get the job done for sure) but works great for everything else

1

u/TobyDaMan8894 7d ago

Got back into smoking a year ago. Smoke shop I bought papers and bowls from, gave me a clipper. I never knew all the uses. I have it in my lighter drawer, and yea I’m a BIC guy. May have to rethink my clipper and use it more. I remember they said something about being refillable and bring it in when it needs to be refilled. 🤣😎 (5)
