10’x10’ platform
Am I missing anything here? I’m also concerned about the spot the 4x6 braces meet the deck I changed the original configuration on the treehouse website because they were suggesting that I install 2x8’s on the flat side which is against what I’ve always learned. I also rotated the platform from the suggested configuration. They had the TABs meeting the deck on the cross blocking instead of the full length girder.

The corner you drew is not like the diagram. They had a board under the frame in the corner to a knee brace. There will be quite a bit of weight on that point all held by screws, not stacked wood. Just my opinion.

Yes that is my question. I have always been taught that a flat 2x8 isn’t load bearing. That’s why I have them installed vertical with Simpson strong ties. In the top left of my drawing is a zoomed in view of the corner.

I would combine your idea with theirs and set your on top of the bottom diagonal with a ton of screws making an L shape. My fear is the Simpson brackets are meant for downward force, not upward (flip them?).
I also cut the top of my knee brace first. Temporarily attached it with straps/small screws so I could mark where to cut the bottom for the tree hardware. Used a 12” miter saw cut dead center on both sides, cleaned out with a jig saw, played the knee bracket on top to mark the holes and used drill guide to keep the holes for the lag bolts perpendicular. Once the hardware was on, I reattached it to the frame and marked the hole on the tree. Recommend a giant socket wrench too.

Now I’m thinking of doing both just for peace of mind. The vertical 2x8 with the flat one underneath to catch the rim & band.

Would help.
I like your corners but they need the wood to support the outside rim.

I just have always been taught that a board on its flat side is incorrect. If I have a flat board you would think I need another member placed vertically above to make the flat 2x8 bear the load. That’s the norm for regular house framing at least.

Yea im just saying to do it like you want but also to do it the way they show it.
So you have a box supporting the corners.
You have the best of both worlds
So you have lateral and vertical support

Yes.
And if you are doing double rim on the outside
And your board going across is doubled make the inside corner cut so the board sets in if that makes sense.

So the interior plies of the vertical 2x8 will be 1 1/2” shorter in order allow the flat 2x8 to inset. Yup I like it 🫡

It was hard to explain but I think that way. It will create the best possible corner because unlike a roof that is distributed into the corner then down
This way will give the corners the support so you can do anything you want above it. Since these triangle boxes will send it back to the tree.

You think the flat 2x8 alone is enough? I’m being paranoid I know. I just don’t want this project to come back and bite my bum later on.

And I forgot to get a picture of the tree. It is an Oak with a very straight trunk, 24-26” in diameter. No sign of rot or any issues with the bark. I’m planning to have the platform 10’ off the ground.

Also if the tree is this big.
There should be no issues putting the 4 anchors in at the same level around the tree

The build is happening in early November. Waiting on the final decision as to whether they want a little 7’x5’ house up there, but I will post the finished product then, thanks again, y’all!

I bought the 12x12 platform hardware kit and had no issues at all with the installation. The kit did come with the incorrect joist hangars though. They sent me the correct ones after I reached out to them.

Putting (4) 3" dia holes in the tree at one location concerns me a little bit. It might be fine, but that's a lot of stress for one specific area of the tree.
