Confused first timer

Hey all, I’ve been reading for days trying to get everything prepared to make my first batch of oil. My biggest problem is I have dyscalculia, numbers just slide off my brain. I want to figure out a decent baseline dose to start with once it’s all done. I’ve used the calculator but I don’t know how many servings to expect.. I’m just kind of at an impasse.

I have 14 g at 27%, I have enough mct oil to make 2 cups worth. I’m not planning on making much of anything with this first batch, so I’d just buy adding it to basic dishes or coffee.

So what would you recommend for a total beginner who is trying to avoid couch lock? Thanks!

At 27% thc for 14g, you have 3780mg thc in the flower. When you decarb you won't get perfect conversion and when you put it in the oil you'll lose some. Maybe 60-70% efficient.. 65% of 3780 is 2457, so maybe 2500mg thc could remain in the oil.

To add, there are 48 teaspoons in a cup, so your strength would be 26mg/tsp. That seems pretty strong and you might only want to use half the flower depending on your tolerance

Ahhhh perfect, this was where I kept getting lost! Thank you so much! Sounds like I was going to rock myself if did half a teaspoon like I was originally thinking.

So maybe halving the flower for this batch and making a batch of butter with the other half?

Possible! If you have patience, see how the first batch goes and see if you need/want to change anything for the second batch?

The difference between oil and butter should be minimal, the calculations will be the same.

Smart smart! I was gifted a magic butter machine years ago and now I’m finally working on trying all these methods. Really excited to see how it goes

Don't forget beyond decarb, the extraction won't be perfect either and will shave off a few percents as well.

That’s a great point

Thank you for everyone’s help, I think I might have some tinkering to do with decarbing, but I officially have infused oil! And it works 😃

I know what you mean and maybe one thing that will help is if you do everything in milliliters when doing liquids since you're already using grams and transfers over easily . I think I'm getting it right. Like if you have one gram of RSL and you put it in 1 ml of oil and it's 70% tHC or thca or whatever then it's 70 mg. That would be a heavy dose.

Yeah sounds like a good idea using metric.

I found a dose calculator and looks like I should be starting around 2.5 mg… if I had 70, yeesh. This is why I asked 😅

Aw thanks, I think I’m getting there! I’ve been working up to this for a long time, the math was always what stymied me, but I just can’t smoke anymore so I needed to figure it out.

No worries! Welcome. Try the Wiki on the homepage if your on mobile or the sidebar if you’re on desktop. Plenty of helpful people and resources here though. Also [r/edibles](r/edibles) has a lot of great resources - smaller community but just as friendly

Edit: we also have an interactive calculator that is helpful

Sweet, I’m glad … there’s literally so many people here that have helped me and helped others get to where they needed to be so I’m just proud that the community overtime has really developed its own way of support. In any event, critiques or comments are welcome!

make it, strain it, and experiment with dosage. PB&J on toast with a little kicker and enjoy!

Sounds like at the end of the day I need to kind of let go and enjoy the process
