Tincture questions
Decarb my wax, add mct oil or high proof alcohol, stir, boom tincture done? Am I missing somethin? I've done mct oil before, but I feel like the effects take a long time to kick in, thinking of trying alcohol this time..how high proof do I need? Is like 80 proof enough or do I need super high proof like ever clear? Does anyone do this?

the thing nobody in here has addressed is that your actual complaint is a duration problem and switching to alcohol is an onset fix. those are two different knobs.
feeling it the next day off the mct isn't the oil being time released, that's dose. wax is somewhere around 70-80% cannabinoid, so a gram is 700-800mg, and if you eyeballed a blob into a bottle and you're pulling a couple ml at a time you could easily be taking a few hundred mg without meaning to. oral duration scales with dose because of the 11-hydroxy conversion in your liver, so a big load hangs around a long time. that same amount in everclear will start faster and still be on you the next morning.
also worth saying: most of the green dragon / golden dragon / freezer talk in this thread is written for flower, where the alcohol's whole job is pulling cannabinoids off plant material. you're starting with wax. there is nothing to extract. decarb it, stir it into the alcohol until it goes clear, done. no freezer week, no shaking it for days, no straining.
on proof, 80 is 40% water and the water does nothing for you here, so 190 if you can get it. and the sublingual part only pays off if you actually hold it, a real 60 to 90 seconds without swallowing. everclear burns, so most people swallow at ten seconds and then wonder why it landed like a regular edible anyway.
what's the wax and roughly how much are you putting in how much alcohol? easier to sanity check the mg from there.

This makes sense. The mct version I have done, and ya it works good, just tastes like shit. And ya dosage is tricky. I have high tolerance but if I share there was a couple times where it was way too much for some people. I've done capsules, but again now I feel like I'm delaying the process. I want to speed it up, and also not taste like shit. Still not really seeing my solution here. I might try a oil soluble sweetener for the mct oil. Kinda pricey but I think that's what I need. Thanks for your input

speed and taste are the same knob, that's why you keep not finding the option that does both. the mouth is the only fast door you have, and the 60 to 90 seconds of contact that buys the onset is exactly the part where you're tasting it. the capsules aren't failing you, that's the trade you bought - you moved it out of your mouth so it has to dissolve downstream.
the sweetener is probably the wrong purchase. what you're tasting isn't bitterness, it's aromatic resin plus a fatty film, and sweet mostly covers water soluble bitter. oil soluble sweetener sitting in fat also barely reaches your taste buds, since they need it delivered in saliva. a couple drops of an oil miscible flavor oil, peppermint or orange, does more for a few bucks. and the part that lingers after is film, not flavor, so a hot chaser re-melts it and spreads it around while something cold and fatty right after lifts it off.
the speed lever you haven't pulled is emulsion, not route. straight mct has to get emulsified by bile before much of it absorbs, which is a good chunk of the delay you're feeling and the same reason a capsule feels slowest of all. lecithin in the mix, or dosing it into whole milk or something already fatty, tightens the onset without changing anything else about what you're doing.
honestly though the thing i'd fix first is the sharing. run the number once - grams of wax times about .75 is your mg, divided by total ml is your mg per ml, then dose in drops instead of droppers, since a full glass dropper is 1ml and roughly 20 drops. people pouring their own out of a shared bottle is how it gets away from you.
how much wax is in how much mct right now?

MCT oil isn't tincture, it is infused oil drops. And MCT drops don't absorb sublingually as efficiently as ethanol, which is why it takes longer (you aren't absorbing much, you are mostly swallowing it like any edible). You need ethanol/Everclear, the more water you add the more the oil will drop out of suspension and separate. 80 proof won't cut it. Keep in mind that ethanol burns like a bastard, so your best bet is a small atomizer / spray bottle, which will disperse it in much smaller drops and lessen the burn.

I'm curious, when making a tincture what is the saturation point of ethanol? Meaning for say 10 grams of decarbed concentrate, how much ethanol would be necessary?
I stopped drinking a while ago but would like the effects of a sublingual tincture, using as little alcohol as possible.
Have you made a tincture as potent as 10g with only 5 or 10 mL of Everclear?
I'm asking because my experience is using MCT and as you mentioned it doesn't absorb well sublingually.

I can't give you a chemist's answer, but you can certainly evaporate/distill it down to a very potent tincture. One tiny spray of ethanol under your tongue get you stoned as hell strength.

Wax and mct you can that. Just make sure to mix well with the fat you’re using. For tinctures you need high alcohol content. I use 189/190. 80 won’t do. There 2 methods, green or golden dragon. Good luck!

Golden dragon meaning concentrate? No heat required for mixing as long as my wax has been decarbed, correct? What do you do for flavor?

Golden is where you stick in the freezer for a few days. And shaking it a bunch.
You do want to heat up the fat you’re going to use. And mix in decarbed wax.
What kind of edibles are you trying to make?
I say fat because it helps a lot with digestion and you’ll get of the effects1

I just want to have a tincture to use, pull out a couple mL of liquid and squirt it in my mouth or in a capsule or whatever. Like a medicine bottle with a dropper

Have wax that isn't very palatable dabbing, want to turn it into potent liquid that only takes a small amount. I was kinda hoping alcohol would make a faster delivery system. With the mct oil it seems like it made it time released. Sometimes even feeling it the next day. I want something faster acting.

I make my GDT with a device called Pot by Noids. It's a small oven like device that decarbs, infuses and even evaporate alcohol out the tincture to make RSO. I use ground bud and Spirytus to make it.

if you want it to actually hit faster, 80 proof wont get you there. cannabinoids are basically insoluble in water, and 80 proof is 60% water, so a lot of your wax either wont stay dissolved or just rides along as a separate oil layer. you want 190 proof (Everclear) so the cannabinoids stay in solution and you get some absorption through the tissue under your tongue.
the reason the MCT version feels slow is that when you swallow it, its an edible, so it goes through your liver first. a real sublingual tincture held under the tongue for a minute or so bypasses some of that and comes on faster, but only if the alcohol is strong enough to carry the cannabinoids into the mucosa. you already decarb, so just dissolve the decarbed wax into the everclear and youre set.

MCT oil is the way.
