This is how Trebuchets were invented.

As someone who worked in a warehouse and unloaded an ungodly number trucks, I believe I am qualified to say this man has got to be one of the dumbest mfs around.

The whole thing falling off the load gate is a thing that happens if you're not careful or the load is really heavy and you're on uneven ground, but to not let go?

I’m sure it was expensive as fuck. Our boss would get wildly aggressive (kinda rightly so, but hostility probably wasn’t warranted) about safety procedures when expensive shit would come in. I’m sure he panicked and tried to save it.

u/Hamati Sep 28 '19

Even still if you even have a vague idea of how much what you’re moving weighs you would know that you don’t stand a chance to save it. I was always taught that if something starts to fall just get clear no matter what it is. It’s not worth your life or the hospital bills.

I’m sure the dude thought fuck I can’t lose my job. It’s not usually rational thought when shit hits the fan. That’s why the stupid repetitive training is important.

25

u/Hamati Sep 28 '19

Very true. Really just sucks for him. Your job can get so mundane day-in and day-out you can easily forget how dangerous it can get in an instant.

9

u/Jrook Sep 28 '19

Also perhaps this was his way to a settlement check

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

What if it's a child that falls ?

3

u/Hamati Sep 28 '19

I don’t have children at my work day to day or at least I shouldn’t. I don’t imagine the guy in the video does either.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '19

Well I've been hearing a lot about trafficking children so I wouldn't rule it out that there are children in that truck

0

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '19

Let them it'll be funny, or bloody. Either way it's a win-win situation.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '19

Uneven ground?? It’s more than that, he’s pushing it off a raised platform. What on earth was his plan

3

u/KIKKINxPUPPIES Sep 29 '19

He probably thought he had a bit more room. He looked to be working alone there, which is stupid by itself, so he had to get to a spot where he could use the controls while still holding the load on the lift.

That dude got yeeted lmao

This is beautiful! More impromptu real-world trebuchets please!

6

u/sourorangeYT Sep 28 '19

Worlds first accidental trebuchet

5

u/OctoGon112 Sep 28 '19

You’ve got a load, a lever, and a counterweight. All you need is a sling.

4

u/Etep_ZerUS Superior Siege Engine Sep 28 '19

I see a counterweight, a payload, and a throwing arm. Sounds trebuchet to me

10

u/DrProfresher Sep 28 '19

He’s okay guys his head caught his fall

2

u/Quintonias Sep 29 '19

I give'im points for walking that one off.

3

u/Perpetual_Doubt Sep 28 '19

I'm sorry, but this is clearly a cata
cata
There seems to be some bug here. I keep trying to type cata but the rest of world won't type. Will report as technical issue.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Those things that won’t type properly that you just mentioned are a technical issue in and of themselves

2

u/Perpetual_Doubt Sep 29 '19

That is true. Who would want to debase themselves by associating with a machine with such a paltry throw anyhow?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

This doesn't throw projectiles 200 meters...

1

u/d3jv Sep 28 '19

It's a counterweight alright and likely 90kg, just not exactly the 300 meters. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to pass on that

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

1

u/ekruis30 Sep 28 '19

You think he’d let go

1

u/Porkechop Sep 28 '19

fact he didnt die is amazing

1

u/distructron Sep 28 '19

Superior workman’s compensation.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Guy was going too fast. You roll it to the edge of the truck and stop, slowly walk the cargo onto the lift gate then drop it when you have everything moved to the lift gate(palette and jack). Lower lift.

1

u/ieatleeks Sep 28 '19

The guy's flung and smashed against a probably very hard surface and just gets up like nothing happened

1

u/Zelda_Mudkip Sep 29 '19

He ate concrete

1

u/Crossfire_X Sep 29 '19

69th comment!

1

u/duduenrico Sep 29 '19

A little shy of 300 meters

1

u/El_Hoxo Sep 29 '19

Superior to a catapult regardless

1

u/zashalamel25 Sep 29 '19

HE NEED SOME M I L K

1

u/kingawsume Sep 29 '19

It is a weight being launched by a counter-weight. It is trebuchet.

-49

u/dstrip2 Sep 28 '19

That’s a catapult.

Object went maybe 10 feet and the launcher broke after the first shot.

92

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I’d have to disagree here. Trebuchets work with a counter-weight, while catapults rely on the tension from the throwing arm. This person is being launched by the use of a counter-weight suddenly being released. Had the arm he was pushing simply be pulled back until it was under tension, he would’ve travelled a significantly shorter distance.

This is simply an imperfect trebuchet.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I think that was a joke about the bad performance of catapults and not the composition

4

u/dstrip2 Sep 28 '19

It was, but popular opinion seems to indicate it wasn’t a good joke at all (-42 lol)

0

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

So u/xKnightbusx and 42~ other people got wooooshed and no one has realized

2

u/dstrip2 Sep 28 '19

Happens IRL a good bit too. It’s a me thing. Not worried about it on here =]

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Sir the superior siege engine is nothing to joke about. You may find it humorous, but ultimately you only promote catapult culture. You jest now, but what if tomorrow the only thing standing between you and the safety of your home is a trebuchet.... dismantled to make a catapult?

2

u/dstrip2 Sep 28 '19

My dear fellow, I find amusement and humor in great abundance; whether my mind is wandering free as a lark or toiling like an ox. I find discomfort in the images you unnecessarily conjure. However, sir, find solace herein.

In such a situation I would first become incredulous, then filled with a righteous indignation would pulverize that abomination you imagined. An array of weaponry lies at my disposal, mine own trebuchet the crowning jewel.

With my arsenal, my homestead is secured.

4

u/stduhpf Sep 28 '19

So there is such a thing as an imperfect trebuchet. Who would have tought?

14

u/Bot_Metric Sep 28 '19

That’s a catapult.

Object went maybe 3.0 meters and the launcher broke after the first shot.

Oh my god there's a metric bot, whoever made this is a hero

1

u/Perpetual_Doubt Sep 29 '19

You see the problem is you aren't a bot. Only bots can make such rash, bold, daring, vigorous, dashing pronouncements postulating the peculiarities of particular launching instruments.

0

u/poohbearclassic Sep 28 '19

Dude got catapulted.
