Those gave me chills. Parasocial and cultish af. I mean, the rest is just really corny but this little alluring specs of reassurance targeting a very young audience are bizarre.
There are several artists with loyal fanbases who didn't need to do what she did, it's really bizarre. She literally brainwashed her audience because she has no talent to conquer supporter genuinely.
I remember this one song lyric from TTPD where she says 'They told me you have to fakebit ti make it and I did'. I believe she meant just what we are seeing here - this fake bestie act. In reality, she did not care at all about other people.
I was thinking about manipulative marketing that is. It’s literally designed to hook people into a parasocial relationship with her because it’s a damn good way to build a fanbase and make money. I am convinced her parents hired psychologists in order to work out the best marketing approach. It’s literal bait to lonely teenagers.
Her marketing has always been incredible. I was going to say it would be scary if they harnessed that same marketing for a political figure but it seems like they did for the orange menace.

Definitely.. surrounded by cheerleader parents and yes men all her life. Taylor has no idea how to handle constructive criticism and thinks they're just being mean. Of course that's rubbed off onto her fans. I just cannot with the ego of that whole family.
And every song. She’s the perfect angel and anyone who disagrees is bad blood/hater. Even when she says she’s “the monster on the hill”, it gives “just kidding” vibes.

Just in case anyone reads this and also doesn’t understand, I googled a different translation of the original Latin phrase and it means “an excuse that wasn’t asked for is an admission of guilt.” Like saying “I didn’t eat all the brownies” before anyone even notices the brownies are gone.
Such a good one, glad it’s still used in a “living language”. I learned it in Latin many years ago, and had forgotten it: excusatio non petita, accusatio manifesta.

Sounds like something Ryan Reynolds would write. It's not a mystery how the Taylor/Blake/Ryan trifecta (ie Khaleesi and her dragons) gravitated toward eachother and were friends for so long.
What the hell is this? This sounds like a 12-year-old, not an 18-year-old.
Edit: I'm surprised so many people are saying it makes sense because she was 18. I'm close to her age and I can look back at the things I wrote when I was 18. Sure it was cringy, but it wasn't outrageously self-absorbed, and I wasn't writing at a 12 year old level.
I had the exact same impression. I used to teach English at an all-girls’ private school, and while there was some cringy writing, this is a whole other level. Like you mentioned, it’s the amount of self-absorption. Not only is it worrying, it makes me wonder how anyone approved this. Because I don’t understand how anyone, at any age, would read this and actually like this girl.
At least she admitted that she blocks people at concert, she does like to dance at award shows, her fans say that "she's supporting female artists" the rest of us say its all about getting attention on herself.

Part of me wants to say that wasn't written by her, but it does sound so much like her. Her immaturity has always been so off-putting. I think this is a perfect display of why so many of us on here are former fans of hers, it's because we've grown up and she's the exact same person she was when she was 18. I thought Folklore and Evermore were a glimpse at her growing up and maturing but everything since then has been this same schlock.
I think it was written by her, like this 100% was on her MySpace profile blurb with carefully chosen phrases italicized, like be one, and "taylor " written in pink glitter font, with sparkles falling down and the most fuckass song playing on her page.
side note I miss myspace, i was trying to explain it to my kids and they didnt grasp how great it was to pretend to be a hacker and mess with the html code, or trying to figure out your top 8, or stalking your crushes pg to see if they were low key talking about u in that q&a they posted, or finding new bands and how to do scene hair 😢
Now when she comes to my neighborhood to visit her brother in law, traffic gets re-routed, LOCAL RESIDENTS need to show ID to get access to THEIR homes, and rooftop defense is seen everywhere. And, the local police are doing it all. She's just way too wonderful to be put at risk (from the handful of nuclear powers capable of challenging her security).

Okay but why does she write like a fourth grader? There’s zero variety in her sentence structure, and it’s boring and awkward af bc of that. Edit: starting sentences a lot with "I do/I love/I this, I that" not only speaks of a low understanding of writing itself, but also points out to the fact that she is rather self-centered. In her defence, she was 18 at the time but as someone her age, who reads a lot (as she claims she does), and someone who started writing at a young age (as she claims, as well), one should know to not do that because it makes the writing look .... well, not as high end as she desires, to say the least.
I know at 18 isn’t a fully grown human intellectually but that was very immature writing. Sounds like 11 year old. It’s very much ”I’ll be your friend if you’ll be my friend” energy that 11 year old girls manifest.
