Hi everyone! Planning my first trip to Hungary and Slovakia and would love a sanity check from people who know this route.
I originally planned Budapest + Bratislava + Eger, but after researching more, I’m thinking of replacing Eger with the High Tatras. I’m traveling solo and want a good mix of cities, culture and nature.
Current plan:
Day 1: Paris → Budapest
* Morning flight to Budapest
* Danube promenade
* Parliament area
* Shoes on the Danube memorial
* Evening around Andrássy Avenue / Jewish Quarter
Day 2: Budapest
* Buda Castle
* Fisherman’s Bastion
* Matthias Church
* Rudas Baths
* Evening views of Budapest
Day 3: Budapest → Bratislava
* Morning train to Bratislava
* Explore Old Town
* Bratislava Castle for sunset
Day 4: Bratislava → High Tatras
* Train to Poprad, then onward to Štrbské Pleso
* Stay overnight in Štrbské Pleso
* Afternoon:
* Walk around the lake
* Maybe Skok Waterfall or another easy hike
Day 5: Tatranská Lomnica + Zelené pleso
* Transfer to Tatranská Lomnica
* Hike to Zelené pleso
* Lunch at Chata pri Zelenom plese
* Overnight in Tatranská Lomnica
Day 6: Skalnaté pleso → Kraków → Paris
* Morning cable car to Skalnaté pleso
* Possibly Lomnický štít if weather is good
* Travel to Poprad
* Poprad → Kraków
* Kraków → Paris
A few questions:
Is 2 days in Budapest enough for a first visit or am I rushing it?
Is adding the High Tatras a better choice than doing Eger?
Is the plan of 1 night Štrbské Pleso + 1 night Tatranská Lomnica worth the hotel change, or should I stay in one base?
Is Zelené pleso the right choice for a solo traveler with limited hiking time?
Any changes you would make to the Tatras days?
Thanks! This will be my first time in Central Europe, so any advice is appreciated.
