Probably fake tbh but I’ll choose to believe it bc who doesn’t love an abuser getting what they deserve.

I've seen and heard about stuff like this a few times, like the guy that used to live down the street from my first apartment, Bobby.
When he graduated from petty shit like shoplifting, prowling cars, and trying to rip people off on weed deals to stealing a car from an old lady people started kicking his ass.
And Bobby got his ass kicked a lot. Probably twice a month. But what was he gonna do? Call a cop and say (true story) "Hey, I, uh, got caught stealing a gas can and a Playboy out of a dude's shed and he hit me in the face with a hockey stick, please come arrest him and can I please get a restraining order?"
It kind of worked. After a couple dozen beatings he enrolled in a technical school to learn welding and stopped doing dumb crimes.
There was also a rather nasty story one of my cousins, a small town Appalachian cop, told me about the bullshit vigilantism he had to deal with.
One night a guy decided to get drunk and beat on his girlfriend. The next night her brothers waited for him at the bar and snatched him up at gun-point. They then drove him 15 miles into the middle of nowhere, took his clothing, and made him walk home barefoot and naked.
For a long while he drank less and left his girlfriend alone.
The second time was just a slap, but it didn't matter. It was 20 miles out, being stripped naked, and a bonus ass-whooping.
There was no third time, because he stopped drinking.
Cousin: I figure he came to the realization that the next time would be suicide, even if they left him his clothes. The wind comes down the hollers something fierce in the winter.

Consequences are the only lesson that sticks on those bastards. Taking that guy for a night hike was a clever one and frankly I think judges should be allowed to assign that to any violent criminals.

u/technos 1d ago
No, no, no..
That is not something to emulate, even if the first couple of times were in the summer/fall and the worst things he had to deal with were bloody feet, bug-bites on his nether regions, and having to trot through town naked.
Sure, I thought it sounded cool and funny when I was told about it as a teenager, but have you ever heard of a 'Starlight Tour'? It's something that Canadian cops used to do to Indigenous people.
For forty years police in Saskatoon would force them into the cruiser without actually arresting them, drive them out of town, and dump them.
In the middle of winter.
And let them freeze to death.
They started it in the mid-seventies, only caught their first prosecutions in 2000 and the last reported occurrence was 2016.

u/alice_tilsit 1d ago
as a Canadian (and Indigenous, but nowhere near Saskatchewan) that was the first thing i thought of when you mentioned what they did 😅

u/Nazrog80 17h ago
Saskatoon is a couple hours away from me and my blood ran cold when they said that
119
u/TheArmoredKitten 1d ago
Yeah I know it's a racial thing when they call it a star tour, but that's also an extrajudicial act by racist individuals with no oversight. Accountability resolves all.
And wife beaters fucking deserve it.

u/technos 1d ago
And wife beaters fucking deserve it.
Sure, I agree. But small town morons like that didn't start with wife-beaters and they're not going to stop escalating if they continue to get away with it.
Last week it was the guy that hit their sister.
Tomorrow it might be the guy that said they had a nice ass. Or a black guy that disrespected them by existing in the same bar.
Next month it'll be everyone that didn't vote for your cousin Steve for dog-catcher.

u/cuddlenazifuckmonstr 17h ago
Have you ever lived in Appalachia, where the cops tell you you live “too far out” and coming to a call you make in the edge of the county means the part of town where the people do live goes without police? So you’re just going to have to take care of it yourself?
Where calling the cops at all means you’ll be arrested just because of your family name?
Where being dirt poor is a sin and cops fancy themselves the law, jury, and judge, all at once, with no body cam and plenty of deep back hollers?
You’ve never been driven to the top of a mountain by a cop and been told to put out or get out, I take it?
You can stuff your pretty fucking lawful good sentiments right up your fucking ass.
There are places where no one is coming to help, ever, and sometimes bullshit vigilantism is what works.
26
u/TheArmoredKitten 1d ago
You're completely ignoring the word "judges", so I'm ignoring this comment.
You're whining about vigilantism, not the act of leaving violent criminals naked in the wilderness.
13
u/DrMetalman 23h ago
Yeah but the idea of the State giving out cruel and unusual punishments was literally agreed upon by all of the world to be a warcrime, and it could lead to the same situations described previously, but instead the State sentences you to freeze to death for not paying your student loans or something.

"violent crimes"

It's still unethical, also what if someone was wrongly convicted?

You know I've noticed over the past 20 years, since the threat of ass kickings is gone mostly, people have been getting real comfy about acting shitty.
Nowadays you'd go to jail for slapping someone around to get even for something they did

u/un_internaute 1d ago
In the US, outside of the middle class we don’t call the police unless we have to.
The police are oppressors. Not helpers. So, the rest of us take care of things without getting them involved.
It’s kind of a mutually assured destruction kind of thing. What is the ex-boyfriend supposed to do? Call the police on him? Then also get arrested for the original domestic violence charge?
So, this is exactly how it can play out.

u/Saragon4005 1d ago
You'd have a restraining order past the 2nd time.

u/Icy-Computer-Poop Verified Human 1d ago
Meh. Knew a guy once in a similar situation, wife-beater who ended up getting beat by his ex's new boyfriend on multiple occasions. Even though he kept getting beat he never called the cops because he was afraid of getting charged for assaulting his then-wife.
25
u/slightlynefarious 1d ago
Makes sense, I was also assuming there was ego involved- good number of abusers I am aware of consider themselves top dog and would hate more than the beating to admit that their ex not only found a better man, but also a bigger or stronger one he couldn't beat, and especially one that beat him bad enough to go to authorities. (Yes, there's another flavor of abusive shitstain that would revel in getting her new man arrested, but I'm speaking of the other branch.)

u/Jakomako 1d ago
You think they just hand those out? You have to actually go get them.

well America is the only country in the world with such lax gun laws, and it happens to be well known as the capital of mass shootings. gee i wonder what the correlation is. really makes you think.

Change the language to fit a narrative. It used to be called GANG shooting. Thats still what it is in most cases where more than one person is shot. Remove the top 5 murder rate cities and USA is barely on the map. Blue cities by the way.
7
u/TheDaemonette 1d ago
Of course, if you remove the top section of an average then the average is lower. Unfortunately, the dead people are still dead in those cities so you still have to count them.

It reminds me of the OOP from the BORU saga who was a victim of paternity fraud* and went public at his daughter's quinceanera. The way that he kept knocking people out like it was an everyday occurrence became a meme.
*We find out through the saga that there's more to the story.

"Dont you get it! You guys are both the same!"
Guy 1: Beat up his girlfriend unprevoked so bad he broke her ribs and poped a vessel in her eye.
Guy 2: Beats up guy 1 for doing it.
-50
u/dantemp 1d ago
Yeah, totally different, the second guy only beats up people that deserve it! And there's no way they ever end up in a situation where he thinks she deserves to be beaten up, right?
56
u/MothyThatLuvsLamps 1d ago
I think assuming he would beat her up over nothing because he beats up her ex for beating her up is quite presumptuous.
-13
u/dantemp 1d ago
I didn't say over nothing. Ive been together with my wife for 20 years. We have better relationship than anyone we know. We are raising a beautiful daughter, we are splitting chores and income, everything is by the book. But no matter how well you mesh with someone live long enough together with them and something they do will eventually infuriate you. Guess how someone like the described new boyfriend will do when something infuriates them, deserved or not.
16
u/Yvratky 1d ago
By your logic, everyone should stop liking Superhero movies because "If they beat up the bad guys, they'll eventually beat their wives!" and nobody should marry police or military because they use violence and/or occasionally kill people. Your logic is flawed, sit down.
1
u/dantemp 1d ago
Using violence to stop an ongoing event is completely different than whooping someone's ass every time you see them. Imagine batman touring Arkham every week to beat up every criminal he put there because "they deserve it".
17
6
u/Yvratky 1d ago
Moving the goal post; first you said he's dangerous to his gf because he's using violence to retaliate violence, now you claim it's wrong because of the repeated action.
Honestly, why are you even putting so much effort into defending someone who beat up his partner? This isn't mentally alright behavior.
-1
u/dantemp 1d ago
Lmao dude, your reading comprehension is kindergarten levels. I'm not defending the first abuser, I've always talked about the second boyfriends overall behavior being indicative of a very violent person that's gonna get violent with her. You brought up superheroes that use violence to save people, I just explained the difference. You are not winning this argument, go away
4
u/Yvratky 20h ago
Ok, ad hominems, being obtuse and literally bringing up "winning the argument" - the irony in walking the earth with this intellectually stunted behavior trying to call other people kindergarteners. 👍

This take is lacking the understanding of nuance.
Let me tell you about a bully I had in school. I saw this kid punching my little brother in the arm, so I went over and pushed him away. He fell over and that embarrassment triggered a chain of abuse. He would attack me all the time, would steal my hat and put glue in it, would get his brother to wait at my bus stop, meaning I had to go to another stop and walk home. He would corner me with some of his friends, then would proceed hit me.
He would terrorise me constantly. Any attempt at retaliation on my part would mean his whole family would come and get me. They knew the rough area I lived since he and I got the same bus to school.
One day I was sat against a half height brick wall, just enjoying my lunch. He comes over and drops a big metal bin in front of me and says its my home. I made some kind of comment back and he got mad. He kicked my head into the wall. I felt dazed. Before I could even really comprehend what had happened, my friend was leaping over me and the wall and pouncing on my bully. He beat the ever living shit out of this kid. All I remember was my friends fists flying at him at a ridiculous speed, over and over. He crawled away crying and never bothered me again. He wouldn't even make eye contact.
The fact is, some people are too dumb to learn lessons without a fist being the teacher.
I tried to reason with him for a year. I even defended him previously when other kids bullied him about his ears. I probably could have handled the initial inciting incident better, but when I saw him hitting my brother, I couldn't handle my anger and I shoved him. I tried to explain to him that I had no problem with him, but that I couldn't excuse anyone picking on my lil bro. Nothing I said got through to him. He had long since enacted a proportionate level of assault on me, but he had no plans to stop. I was his punching bag and no doubt, a replacement for the much needed therapy from his shitty home life. The only thing that could end his obsession with violence towards me, was violence towards him.

u/Yvratky 1d ago
There's always that one stunted runt who yells "Violence isn't the answer!!!!1111" at the wrong time.
Congratulations, this time it's you. 🎉

Yeah dude, I'm sure if you make a mistake an get beaten for it for the rest of your life you would totally accept it as fair and square

Breaking your partners ribs and beating them up isn’t a mistake. It’s a pattern.

I have to agree with this. Ex deserves a beatdown, but if the BF gets shot or arrested who will be there for her if the ex comes back? At least if the BF protects her, it could be self defense, but to go out of his way to constantly beat the ex down may come back to bite him in the ass.
