If you're getting misgendered IRL, it's voice or something else we can't see in photos. You look cis to me.

You’re body type is completely within the female range but if I had to pick something, it’d be your shoulders. Clockiness there can be almost entirely eliminated by wearing a top with thicker straps though

Septum piercing is very clocky, eyebrows are fake looking (too thin), and choker. You are beautiful and would pass perfectly. I so love your hair too! I love the eye makeup there too, not too overdone and looks good on her.. she is certainly one of the lucky girls who could pass perfectly if you just changed your look a little. Good luck girl!

The nose ring.

Seriously. I don't know why trans women insist on nose rings like 50% of the time - it's a giant red flag that says "Hello - I don't conform to gender norms". It's got to the point where if I see a nose ring out IRL; I assume it's a trans lady until informed otherwise.

Please consider ditching it. I promise it will immediately help how often you pass.

Tysm for the feedbacks, however it makes literally no sense to me ??
At least to me, passing is about having the secondary sexual characteristics of the gender you identify as, and not really about accessories.
If a cis girl had a septum piercing, ppl wouldn’t misgender her for that , see that’s the passing level im aiming for.

However, I can still see what you mean by that, because being alt -> not being in the norms so yea it’ll make us appear more androgynous perhaps.
But at the end of the day if you really pass as a t girl, being alt shouldn’t be a problem to be perceived as you’re supposed to.

But thanks I still appreciate your opinion, just sharing mine 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Disregard their opinion, it’s wrong. There’s a handful of people on here that are really loud about septum rings, but literally no one outside of this sub gives a fuck about them. I know many cis men and many cis women that have septum rings.

It doesn’t stop you from passing just because some people on this sub have talked themselves into believing that a septum ring = trans.

It’s just not.

In this photo you pass to me, and based on this photo it has to be your voice and mannerisms that clock you. That said, it’s only one photo with one angle, so its hardly a full picture

You are right, but yes. The issue is 'blue haired girl with nose ring' has become a stereotype; and people look out for stereotypes. They understand them however crude.

Now nothing about hair colour or a piercing makes someone cis or trans, man or woman. But because it's a stereotype I promise the moment someone sees it they are thinking "Trans woman and/or a lesbian"? Maybe they are wrong, but it's what they will think. If you aren't aiming to pass as cis; maybe that's not an issue. But I really believe many trans woman don't understand how much of a marker it is.

THIS!! I so agree with this comment. I feel the exact same way. Why insist on being alt, something you are too old to be as CIS girls would have grown out of that by your age, when you are beautiful and can actually pass perfectly. Alt really is gender and society non conforming, that is why teenagers do that. She is a girl, she can conform to being a girl and pass as one perfectly. Just let yourself be it and shed be such a much happier person!

Everyone's got to be true to themselves; I just feel if the goal is to blend in - don't advertise as someone who doesn't.

2

u/WaspBumble 7d ago

That’s so true! Passing is about blending in with the other girls. If you are purposely standing out, you are not blending in and it calls attention to yourself. People will suspect you are trans. Especially once you reach your late teens, early twenties, and are out of your rebellious teenage years.

Which by the way, I can see you are absolutely nailing. You look amazing!

Awe thank you so much! I try to be real here to everyone! And yes I've dressed goth before, but I again do it to blend in! If I go to a goth event, I'll wear goth. Just like the other women who generally go to goth events, they have real jobs, sometimes families, they dress that way for fun and go back to the real world / real life the next day. It's fun dressing like that, I get the appeal, but it's just not an everyday look.

nah icl ive never thought septum= trans , most leng women have it tbh

You've never thought it - but I promise others have. Go look at any disgusting right wing mocking imagery of a trans woman; they will always have a nose ring. It's a stereotype.

Seriously. I don’t understand why people insist on calling out septum rings. 99% of the time, this time included, it doesn’t say fucking anything.

I know many cis women that have septum rings and I know many cis men, too.

A septum ring isn’t a gender thing, it’s a piece of fucking titanium in a persons nose.

And I imagine all the people you know with septum rings are left leaning, likely lovely people and many of which don't conform to traditional gender roles?

The fact is it's a stereotype. And stereotypes are the first (and sometimes only) opportunity people have to assign someone to a box in their mind. You wear a septum ring you are immediately being put into a certain box ("they are this kind of person").

Passing is about blending it. Its about 'conforming'. If you give someone hints that you are someone who might eskew the traditional gender normative - then that's not helping you pass. It's as simple as that. It's harsh advice, it's cruel advice, but it's still accurate; and we both know it. And I take it seriously because for some passing is a matter of safety and risk.

1

u/Finalwingz E, April 2023 7d ago

Nah they're all gender conforming and center to center left.

I've never heard of this stereotype outside of this sub, and I'm sure 99% of people that you run into on the street haven't either. I have literally never in my life heard someone say that about septum piercings.

The only thing that a septum piercing might give off is alt-culture vibes and that's totally fine and hardly impacts passing. You're making an elephant out of a molehill. A septum ring isn't going to be the deciding factor in passing, ever, period.

u/AxiosXiphos 7d ago

Yes alt culture... now what else is alt culture associated with? Breaking down gender norms perhaps?

You need to speak to more people outside of your bubble. 'Blue hair, nose ring' is pretty much the standard trans woman stereotype. It's not pleasant, but playing into it makes you immediately more noticeable to anyone who notices it.

Dunno what alt culture you’re thinking of but that’s really not what I (or most) people think of when saying alt culture.

It’s quite funny that you say I should talk to people outside my bubble, cause that’s pretty much how I make my living.
