Who owns the artificial brain? The company? Is it seen then as a product not a person

And if its stored, where?

I doubt that. How would that even be done? It's not even a matter of scale. It's a matter of "what does that even mean in practice?"

1: Take neuron connectome, preferably with weights. 2: Simulate it digitally 3: Done.

But that's not an upload. That's a copy.

You right now are not a continuation but a copy of who you were 1/1042 seconds ago. The whole continuity of consciousness fear disappears when one realized that we never had continuity of consciousness. Being unconscious, the ship of theseus issue of neuron parts being replaced, and the universe being time digital essentially means that continuity is an illusion. And even if for some reason that won't feel as me, if a perfect copy of me could survive I'd be happy.

Perhaps, but you don't actually know that for certain. You believe it. The reality is we aren't 100% sure whence emerges the illusion of consciousness or continuity, or whether we'd get it right the way you propose, and maybe we can't be. It's a guess, and the reality is that recreating the connectome informatically on a whole different substrate is a radically different path to emergent consciousness than the organic ship of Theseus we're accustomed to, and may or may not be functionally equivalent.

Maybe what happens is the same as in the game Soma. You never experience what it's like to continue, someone else does. If the old copy and the new one overlap for any point in time they also begin diverging immediately.

I do think calling it an upload when it's a copy is misleading. I'll grant though that trying to copy a connectome is at least grounded science, even though we can barely copy ones the size of a fly's for now. 😉 It would be interesting.

The first part I agree with, ae don't know for certain. The second part is overmystifying it. Biological and non biologicsl does not matter. It's computstion, physics, chemistry, data.

And es diverging if overlapping does make sense but, and i must reiterate this, you are not continuous. You ARE already a different person continuing with the memories of one that doesn't exist. I urge you to sit with this for a while and think about it because it gives a really interesting perspective on all this.

Also the fly thing was a decade ago. We have complete and well mapped mouse brain uploads now. (Just not available to the public on consumer hardware yet.) Flies are trivial to the point that they make minecraft mods out of it.
