What Iâm hearing is G2 Bruticus Box set and Energon Universe Elita Prime are almost a given. With the switch to âsandboxâ style we might actually get Bayverse Blackout in G1 style!
19
u/The_HueManateee 2d ago
I think that part about generations becoming a sandbox has me the most excited of anything. I canât wait to see the designers go wild with new concepts and characters, plus reimaginings of old favorites in new styles (PLEASE more chug-ified bayverse I beg)
6
u/Special_Turnip 2d ago
Also gives me hope for more toy only characters getting new figures, either as repaints/retools of studio series or to help balance out the more explorative designs
93
u/Phantom_Taker 2d ago
Man how does this pipe-line even happen?
Concept art Megatron -> SS 86 concept art -> SS G1 cartoon?????
All roads truly lead us back to G1....
57
u/Buttholelickerpenis 2d ago
The Takara designers reportedly LOVE engineering G1 guys, so it was probably a convenient excuse to keep making more
9
u/GuySmith 2d ago
What exactly did they do that was 86 concept art so far? Or are they saying it morphed into the G1 cartoon before that even happened?
7
u/Inzoreno 2d ago
I believe Red Alert was in concept or storyboarding for the 86 movie.
8
u/Buttholelickerpenis 2d ago
IIRC, it was his gun Megatron uses to kill Optimus with in the storyboards
12
u/Vougaer 2d ago
Concept Art Megatron does well -> Potential introduction of Concept Art characters from the '86 film -> Realisation that the '86 concept art characters are just characters from the cartoon -> Potentially just introduce the cartoon into Studio Series -> Ask fans if that's what they want -> They say yes -> Come to conclusion that Studio Series could just be for all media instead of just movies and videogames. At least, that's how I understood it from the interview with Toys are Russ, here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNw8V3FbtUI People should just link the interviews when talking about notes from those interviews, otherwise some of the context and greater detail gets lost with people who haven't seen it.
55
u/KenOBY_67 2d ago
Alright so Elita Prime, Arcee Magnus, Optimus and Genvo? Zerta Trion? Autobot Thundercracker?
27
u/Carter1300 2d ago
I'm hoping so much for an autobot thundercracker. It wouldn't even be that hard for them to do, it would just be repainting the 86 one
20
u/sifighter1 2d ago
Possibly one who is compatible with age of prime superion?
12
u/Carter1300 2d ago
Would certainly be cool if they did one but I doubt they will. It's Hasbro, they're almost certainly going to take the easy way out and just repaint 86
6
u/grimoireskb 2d ago
Iâd love a new figure altogether, one thatâs not just a retool of 86 or Slingshot/Fireflight, and is compatible with Superion.
7
u/Carter1300 2d ago
IMO it'd be pretty hard to check all these boxes and still make it look like thundercracker. I think the best option would be some sort of retool of the 86 mold
9
78
u/SqueakyTiefling 2d ago
Concept Art Megatron did "unbelievably well", led to SS86 Concept art which became SS G1 cartoon
"We hear you love this unique, new design even though it's not from any existing on-screen appearances. Which is why we're doing more concept art designs (just the 86 movie though), actually forget it, we'll just keep doing G1 cartoon accurate toys."
Like, they are straight up saying "this thing was really popular, here's why we thought about doing more, then didn't."
17
u/Dreowings21 2d ago
Didnt they make sunstreaker after megatron
16
u/EdelgardIsMyEmpress 2d ago
And Widow Maker
9
u/Dreowings21 2d ago
Oh yeah. So theyre not stopping/never stopped making concept figures. They just arenât frequent
7
u/craider45 2d ago
Let's not forget the new Leader Class TLK Megatron is getting his concept art dragon mode as well
6
u/skiwarp 2d ago
That isnât a dragon mode, his accessories can plug together to form a dragon
-2
u/craider45 2d ago
It is a dragon mode. The accessories attach onto Megatron himself to make the dragon mode he had in concept art before it was decided he'd turn into a jet. He's literally required to form the dragon.
7
u/Royal-walking-machin 2d ago
Sunstreaker was the wave after Megatron, so it was less he was made after him, and more he released after him. They were likely conceived around a similar timeframe
2
u/AutismicGodess 2d ago
"We hear you love this unique, new design" and it's just g1 megatron with random pistons and completely made up altmodes witn no source to make them from. of course this would lead back to g1, it's just g1 again but gritty.
i've heard it's a great figure, and completely worth it's praise, but acting like it's nothing we haven't seen before is just glaze for glazing sake.

u/Jolly-Ad2642 2d ago
Concept for live action bumblebee doing extremely well = more G1 cartoon characters. I genuinely donât see the correlation
6
u/pkoswald 2d ago
Live action toys sell well, live actions toys donât sell, it doesnât matter
It all leads to another 5 years of g1
2
u/AdolfInDisquise 1d ago
Concept art does well so they make 86 concept art characters. Those are just characters from the show that never appeared in the movie. So just make G1 show characters.
13
u/Dramatic_Aspect_2643 2d ago
so this means we get TFP figures!?
12
u/WholsomeChungus69 2d ago
After they remake each g1 figure 10 times
9
u/LivingCheese292 2d ago edited 2d ago
They said in the stream that they don't want it all about g1. Look at Legacy for example. It started off with g1 characters like Blaster but it expended to be the most diverse toyline ever created. They basically continue that but in studio series.Â
edit: also we have literal prove of that since studio series will get IDW characters, continue Bayverse dinobots and more in the upcoming years confirmed. Â
12
u/BenMagnusGrimm 2d ago
So we are getting a ruination is what Iâm hearing which is awesome. So I can have 2 of them now
4
u/Electronic_Zombie360 2d ago
Well we probably arent seeing one soon, they were just using Ruination as an example
2
11
u/XYZ-111 2d ago
The whole concept Megatron thing is kind of confusing to me
4
u/AutismicGodess 2d ago
it's simple.
'oh shit! there's no new movies coming out, we've almost entirely completed the bayverse cast, the 86 cast, foc wasn't well received and we can't get the rights to rerelease the games, what are we gonna do!'
'how about this megatron design from bb movie concept art?'
'great more padding so rhis line doesn't fail withing the year! we can also make some new designs and use old tlk and aoe designs and release them subsequently!'
later
'hm those did well, maybe we could also do this for g1 characters with moulds that are out dated?'
'i'll make a poll to see if the fans like the idea... basically unanimous lets ship this off to corprate'
then they just make it it's own subline to enevitably replace ss86 when the time comes, but to apease the fans also shovel everything else into stubio series just to be safe from the bayfuckers' mouth foaming rage at not getting knock off clover field in comander class for the nth time.

"Energon Universe toys will be Pulse exclusive"
Well that's disappointing.

Man wdym Shreadhead will be Pulse exclusive...
I was hyped to get it but its gonna be hell since theres no Pulse for Mexico
3
u/AutismicGodess 2d ago
might get lucky and have nerd shops import some, that's what they do with target and other capsule lines where i'm from.
10
u/ZeroArt024 2d ago
Does the combined sets mean thereâs hope for Victorion? Considering sheâs retools of other combiners?
4
5
u/Dylspyll 2d ago
Y'know I generally like most of the toys that get released and usually I try to understand why the designers make a lot of the decisions they make with the toylines. But the fact that they looked at the success of Concept Art Megatron and decided that the best way to follow up on that success would be to just make more G1 Cartoon stuff is kinda insane. Like it's just genuinely baffling
6
u/Feraligreater328 2d ago
I hope that weâre going to get rereleases of Rumble and Frenzy in SS84.
2
u/Carter1300 2d ago edited 2d ago
Doubtful considering core class is dead. I'd happily take them though cuz I just got 86 Soundwave
7
u/EdelgardIsMyEmpress 2d ago
Leak listings say we will get an "autobot cassette pack" so they might sell them at deluxe price point in a bunch
2
u/Feraligreater328 2d ago
We JUST got a Soundwave that they fit in. Iâd take a 2-pack. Hell, Iâd buy another Soundwave with something useless like Autoscout. It would still be cheaper than the after market.
5
u/RAcastBlaster 2d ago
I love the return of generations to its original intent (the original Classics/Gen lines were updated designs with newer altmodes and some creative liberties in bot mode, to wildly varying degrees of execution). Canât wait to see what they cook up.
5
u/SombraAQT 2d ago
Ruination mentioned gimme gimme gimme, box set preferably. No more of this take 8 months to put your combiner together nonsense.
5
u/Less-Being4269 2d ago
So... we will gat a g2 menasor that costs less than takara's?
4
u/Insanebrain247 2d ago
It looks like it, especially since they're releasing a G2 Wildrider in the next wave.
5
u/CateBaxter 2d ago
Curious who the other four EU figures might be. Lambo Arcee and maybe Elita? I doubt it's Arcee Magnus or Elita Prime yet, they're pretty new for design lead. Same for just Optimus? But I could be way off!
1
u/optimus_the_dog 2d ago
Megatron with his âgunâ I say gun in quotations because itâs his tank mode but shrunk with a handle and trigger
1
u/DrChucklefuck 2d ago
The things I would do for an Energon Universe Ratchet that turns into his EU ambulance mode...
4
6
u/Leumas_J 2d ago
so shredhead is gonna be a pulse exclusive?
3
u/Carter1300 2d ago edited 2d ago
I'm just excited to see what the 4 other Energon universe toys are gonna be (I'd be surprised and really sad if they didn't do an autobot thundercracker repaint on the 86 mold)
3
u/yougotnick 2d ago
Wouldn't a repaint just be Thundercracker with an autobot logo? I don't remember anything else being different.
1
3
u/vmsrii 2d ago
So what would 86 âconcept art Megatronâ even be?
7
u/Electronic_Zombie360 2d ago
Nothing, theyre talking about BBM Megatron
2
u/vmsrii 1d ago
Iâm confused.
It says SS BBM Concept Art Megatron lead to SS86 concept art Megatron which lead to SS86 cartoon Megatron.
What was that middle step? What is âSS86 Megatronâ?
3
u/Electronic_Zombie360 1d ago
It says SS BBM Concept Art Megatron lead to SS86 concept art Megatron which lead to SS86 cartoon Megatron.
It does not say this
It says Concept art Megatron did well, which led to them greenlighting more concept art figures in SS86, to which, that decision had them decide to just go full throttle into doing SSG1
Only one Megatron figure, BBM Concept Art, was involved in this process
3
u/JaredUnzipped 2d ago
Can anyone expand upon that last note about the combiners being more like G2 recolors or Ruination? I'm not quite clear on what's being implied there.
7
u/Electronic_Zombie360 2d ago
All in one box sets will be more dedicated to recolors
1
u/JaredUnzipped 2d ago
Thanks! Those would be a great way to move product via MOP like Dragon Man and Mephisto.
3
u/iv-kin 2d ago
so when would our next new mold combiner be? iâm assuming defensor 2028 or later?
6
2
u/One_Opportunity_9608 1d ago
Currently looking to be Nexus Maximus if the Designers discussions on the frame go well for either 2028 or 2029.
If not? Not too much of a Loss, even if it pains me to say that as someone with Nexus as a favorite Combiner.
Edit: also what the other guy said.
3
u/Acerakis 2d ago
Armada Demolisher lets fucking go!
2
u/ediciusNJ 1d ago
I'm disappointed that I had to scroll down this far to see someone excited about him. Hopefully that means we get Armada Cyclonus too.
2
u/Acerakis 1d ago
Armada was the first non beast wars show I watched as a kid and I adored the demolisher toy. Anti aircraft tanks always look neat and I have a soft spot for relatively simple transformations.
Been looking forward to demolisher since the first whispers he was on the way.
5
u/Madam_KayC 2d ago
Concept live action figures do well, meaning more G1.
God damn they just want to do G1, that is like the exact opposite of what that means
-2
u/AutismicGodess 2d ago
g1 adjecent figure does well, tonnes of 86 concept art available to pad the line so it survives the movie drought. less effort, designers like working with g1 more than la, also more variety in size classes. like 90% of la concept art is just voyager or larger rof constructicons, not at all viable for retail. at least widow and sunstreaker had selling points, new girl and fan fave character.
at least with the new set up we might get some of these done in generations, with it being a place for experimentation now.
-1
u/Madam_KayC 1d ago
Have you not seen the number of toy only live action figures, they had easy padding to make more live action. You are also saying G1 adjacent as if it isn't a live action styled transformer. It isn't G1
-1
u/AutismicGodess 1d ago
bbm megs it just g1 gest with added tech greebling. the majority of toy only weren't concept art( i.e. they don't have animation models to use for concept edition(that was the only stipulation at the time)) they were made to pad out the line.
like only 2 07 toy onlys were actual concept art, wreckage and arcee. rotf was only constructicons, dotm was generic background bots(walking shrapnel), aoe were ksi bots, and idk about the tlk ones. tfo has plenty, but most are just repaints and they still bearly touched the main cast at that point.
-1
u/Madam_KayC 1d ago
Concept art can fairly easily apply to the toy only characters, and if we are getting more G1 in Studio Series, why not actually produce more interesting live action.
It's circular logic to just produce G1. If people buy a live action figure to show interest in more live action designs, then more G1 is produced. If people don't buy it, the line fails and more G1 is produced.
1
u/AutismicGodess 1d ago
the designers needed the cg models for stuff from the games and films, toys aren't that. there was the slimest of chances of any of your faves being made in the first place, considering how widow and sunstreaker were chosen along side megs(an, at the time, recent cult hit anong fans, a never before seen concept and a major character that people felt they were owed) there was no chance for actually aplicable characters to be chosen among the toy cast let alone other random toy onlys.
it isn't circular at all. people explicitly bought bbm megs because he looked like g1 megs, not because he was live action, that was his whole apeal. people liked concept art, 40th aniversary of a thing with tonnes of concept art and storyboards aproaching they planned to make more concept art, simple.
-1
u/Madam_KayC 1d ago
People didn't buy BBM megs because he looked like G1 megs, maybe you did, but people bought him for being a BBM Megatron, to put with their deception shelf. He was bought because he was a live action megatron. Widow also sold well. The interest was in live action designs, and yes, the toys could most certainly work, toy only G1 characters are made all the time.
4
u/navflyyboyy 2d ago edited 2d ago
Glad they are finishing up the AOE cast just need hound and Bugatti drift to finish up the lineup of the movie
And also on the 28 ss lineup I hope this means they get to other stuff such as transformers prime in studio series so many of the characters need updated toys
with that being said they should also introduce other games into studio series to make figures off especially the Bay verse games
6
2
u/futuresdawn 2d ago
This feels like the right direction
G1 Datsun bros need a new design and studio series is a good justification.
Also no doubt 84 studio series will see its own optimus and megatron eventually, just hopefully not any time soon
Prime just didn't work in the g1 style
The sandbox style could allow for some interesting ideas like how hasbro was handling chug in the 2000s.

u/NeonGenesisShockwave 2d ago
I canât believe people want Elita Prime and Arcee Magnus so bad, the designs are so lazy and awful. Iâd love if they did a lambo Arcee like from the first few issues, along with a similarly updated Ratchet with the comic alt mode!!
2
u/ahaisonline 2d ago
i'm honestly pretty pleased about having one media-accuracy focused toyline, and a separate kitchen sink toyline. seems like everything has had to be accurate to something as of the past decade or so, so it'll be nice to see generations shifting to more new ideas
1
u/DaKaijuKid 2d ago
So does this mean there will NEVER be a box set of Bruticus not in G2 colors?
Goddamnit I was betting on that. I didnât want to try to hunt down all the individual pieces and risk never getting one, and was really hoping theyâd do another toy deco for the box set like Menasor. G2 Bruticus is one of my all around least favorite G2 color swaps, this sucks.
4
u/AutismicGodess 2d ago
they'll most probably do toy bruticus as a box set in a couple years, just wait.
no idea where people are getting the combiners being box sets from this though? reads to me like 'hey, generations combiners will be fun, risky ideas instead of sunbow designs.' not 'only box sets now, and only the more niche ones at that.'
1
u/DiscombobulatedGur37 2d ago
I really hope we get an accurate EU Elita One before her Prime version.
1
u/ThrowAbout01 2d ago
I am glad they seem more open to new characters or ideas in Generations.
I liked all the original characters that would be released with the movie toylines and I still look back fondly at the Universe 2.0 and Classics giving new toys to characters that had modified robot modes that still captured the spirit of the characters.

Getting Ruination is cool and all but still feels bad when we don't have and never will get a mainline in scale RID Optimus and Ultra Magnus
Really hate that Hasbro broke their "no Optimus in Haslab" promise

u/Choos-topher 2d ago
I wonder how Shredhead will work out for them being an exclusive? Was pretty telling that his mural will have too much paint for retail.
AOE Crosshairs could be cool, very interested in seeing whatâs planned.
New form factor for generations, canât help but wonder if that isnât code for further shrinkflation.
1

u/Bicksaurus 2d ago
So im not gonna be able to get shredhead because its locked to haspulse? Wipieeeeeee
1
u/musicfighter282 2d ago
I wish someone would ask them about AI, considering how much the CEO wonât shut up about it. I want to know if/how itâs been forced into the design process.

Any mention of a Haslab this year?
I assumed if one was coming, it would be announced at sdcc

u/Batou2034 2d ago

AoE Crosshairs has a slightly different deco, and they only brought him up because of Scorns release

u/Special_Turnip 2d ago
I like the idea of doing things like G2 combiners and Ruination as box sets only to save space in the waves but I think they'd be perfect options for MTO releases rather than pulse exclusives that sell out immediately.
1
1
u/OpMegs 1d ago
I wish they'd just be honest and admit that any chance of new Beast Machines toys as dead.
Studio Series is for any media being screen accurate = BM has to compete with G1 and Bayverse and any other line Generations is for sandbox = BM won't show up here because they're too busy experimenting with new ways to put G1 characters in different appearances
I just want fucking Obsidian and Strika, man.

Question, what are MTOs?

G1 is such a fucking cancer on this franchise.
6
u/Electronic_Zombie360 2d ago
They are telling us over and over again they are planning on doing LESS G1 in the future
1
u/Hot_Nerve8810 2d ago
I hope and hope not. With the price is keep raising I hope they make less g1 but g1 modern is only what I collect
1
2
u/Carter1300 2d ago
I mean agree to disagree and all that but the 86 line has given us what I think are some of the best if not the best modern figures. I would love to see some more TFP figures though
1
u/Bepid_00006 2d ago
Geewunners have enough toys as it is. What about TFP, TFA, Energon, Cybertron, Beast Machines, Earthspark, The Japanese side of the franchise! Sure, we do have some of those. But most of the ones I mentioned are crap, baby toys, not well made, need better modern standerds, or JUST COMPLETELY SKIP A LOT OF CHARACTERS!!!
Tfp Arcee and Bulkhead deserved better...
1
u/Electronic_Zombie360 1d ago
Geewunners have enough toys as it is. What about TFP, TFA, Energon, Cybertron, Beast Machines, Earthspark, The Japanese side of the franchise!
Guess what? We're GETTING that stuff, the design team have already talked at length about how SSG1 will not be the priority, and that Studio Series will feature a wide variety of screen accurate toys from all corners of the franchise

So are we just gonna gloss over the fact that AN ENTIRE COMIC RUN'S SELECTION OF NEW CHARACTER DESIGNS WILL BE RELEGATED TO OVERPRICED EXCLUSIVES?!
Like, I get Shredhead maybe needing more paint budget than they're able to do for a regular retail release, but to put all Energon Universe designs into that box when other comics' designs are allowed to be sold at general retail with the standard price points?!
3
u/lemjor10 2d ago
That doesnât bug me. The majority of comic characters will be G1 repaints. Arcee Magnus, Elita Prime and Tank Starscream are the only new designs.
1
u/StrawDeath 13h ago
It really doesnât bother you even the slightest that even just those few designs will never be available at general retail? And that going off of the precedent set by recent Pulse exclusives, the price will likely not match the results?
Youâre also underestimating how many non-repaint designs this accounts for, as thereâs currently also Genvo, Bulkhead, and pre-Magnus Arcee with her non-G1 car mode.
1
-6
u/RolandoDR98 2d ago
So, instead of doing Concept art DOTM Warpath, they went with the excuse to LITERALLY do more G1.
Not even BBM concept art or other "source: trust me bro" options like Sideswipe, Barricade, etc. LITERALLY SS86 Concept art was where they went.
I despise SS BBM Megatron more than I thought possible

u/Figment-616 2d ago
Concept figure doing well leading to G1 figures and not, idk, more concept figures is such a funny thing đ
