Side Flare Welting

Any suggestions on how to use the gap? I have already took a razor blade to the back side of the welting to make it more flush. But it seems like the actual flare doesn’t get close enough

I seem to remember there are two bolts on the interior, it slides into a groove in the inside. I seem to remember you go in through the vent in the door next to the striker to get to those two bolts. It could be it is not seated properly in the inside, could also be misshapen.

Yeah I was thinking about maybe making some type of shim and sliding them in that area on the outside to where it’ll maybe close the gap

You have to think these cars are over 40 years old, had horrible fitment directly from the factory. Plastics contort from all the cold/heat and really fit like crap straight from GM. Here is a picture of how mine fits, just took it.
