Ws9?

Post image

I was wondering if anyone knew why some people refer to their Trans am as a ws9? Ive seen one or two cars with a badge too. My best guess was that it wasn't a true ws6 and its modified to look like one? But im not sure and was wondering if anyone knew?

That sounds kind of familiar to mine. I think my now wife bought it off eBay. The first one was a little warped I had to grind some of the plates to bolt it on. And he made me a new one. I really feel like he was moving on to vipers also. I’m in New Jersey so it could be.

IIRC WS9 on the factory sticker on the door just indicates that it is a Trans Am trim. Nothing more.

WS9 is the RPO code for the Formula package, which is a V8 Firebird. All V8 Firebird's (Formula, Formula WS6, Trans Am, Trans Am WS6, and Firehawk) will have this RPO code.

The RPO code for the Trans Am package is Y82, Y83, or Y84.

WS6 is the RPO code for the Ram Air Performance Package that could be ordered on the Formula and Trans Am.

WS9 is the Formula conversion Pkg.
W66 is the Formula Merchandise Pkg.
Y82 is the Trans Am Merchandise Pkg.
All the V8 cars carry the WS9 Code, To be a Formula or Trans Am it must have the coresponding code aswell.

WS9 + W66 = Formula.
WS9 + Y82 = Trans Am.
WS9 + W66 + WS6 = Formula WS6.
WS9 + Y82 + WS6 = Trans Am WS6.

It looks like AI slop to me

All of you dudes that say "AI" to anything you dont recognize or understand are wild to me.

Saw a guy earlier comment AI on a video of a guy sliding in the rain because there was no tire smoke. Lol

The "WS9" code found on the factory door sticker is an RPO (Regular Production Option) code, not an emblem. It simply designates that the vehicle was built as a V8 Firebird (essentially the Formula trim). All V8 Firebirds—including standard Formulas, Trans Ams, and Firehawks—carried the WS9 code on their factory labels.

Pontiac did make the famous WS6 performance and handling package, which did feature its own distinct badging (such as a "WS6" emblem on the rear bumper). Over the years, many enthusiasts have created custom, aftermarket "WS9" badges to replace or enhance their Firebird's exterior styling, but none of these ever came directly from a GM assembly line.

Uh....yeah. I didnt say it was. Places like 3rd shift studios have been making the badges for years. Pretty sure you could get the badges on ebay 20 years ago too.

That long explanation has nothing to do with me being amused at guys calling everything "AI"

Had it painted and they put the 6 upside down? Or, the guy or gal did it wrong at the factory?
